depends if you like cooking, but if you like cooking form scratch then i usually tap in low fat chicken meals say in the google box and see what is kicked up.

The bbc food page has some really nice recipes     http://www.bbc.co.uk/food/       and well as               http://uktv.co.uk/food/homepage/sid/566               i think it is also a good one.

If you like ready meals then i know weight watchers do a good range as well as the co-op,but it is usual that cooking form scratch is the best way to go as you control salt etc that goes into your food.

Hope this helps

catherine

thanks catherine,no id rather do it from scratch .,apart from being healthier i find i get more food for my calories then a ready meal, ill check out the bbc website  x

Hi Jane,

I really like Baked Potato. With Tuna or even Beens. I Found a really low cal snak in Blueberries  (yum).

I also go for the dreded weightwatchers meals like tuna bake or chicken tika massala.

Allanx.

Lentil soup is really filling and good for you too!  It's especially nice during all this chilly weather we've been having! =)  I can provide my recipe if it's helpful.

Also, using Quorn products instead of chicken helps cut down on fat and calories!

Hi,

Have you tried baking fresh veg with an arrabiata sauce poured over ?

Really easy:

Blanch Carrots, Cauliflower, Brussels, Beans in boiling water for two - three minutes,

Pour boiling water on some wholewheat pasta and let it soak for about 5 mins

drain veg, add raw brocolli, mange tout and sugar snaps and drained pasta, mix it all up in a baking dish... pour over arrabiata sauce or any homemade spicey tomatoe sauce and then bake in oven for about 20 mins.....

It's really nice and keeps for a day or two in the fridge as well, so can be microwaved and heated up again..

Hi,

I buy all 'normal' foods as I also cook for my husband (who is health conscious but doesn't want to eat 'diet' food for dinner) and I always manage to make dinners for myself with under 400cals. e.g. Noodles or rice with chicken breast cut up and sachet of chow mein sauce plus loads of frozen veg to bulk up.

Healthy 'fry-up' - fried egg (1cal spray) beans, dry fried mushrooms, tomatoes, maybe slice toast or few turkey slices.

Tuna steak with loads of veg (it's so filling I don't need carbs with this but will do a jacket spud or mash for hubby)

Half Tesco or Sainsbury sweet chilli chicken pizza with big side salad of lettuce and tomato, I use balsamic to dress it. Cut pizza in 4 to make it 'last' longer :)

Birds Eye frozen chicken breast with peri peri flavouring or whatever flavour is half price when I'm doing the shopping! These are about 165 cals so have some beans or again loads of veg. Bernard Matthews Big Green Tick Breaded Turkey. Lovely to be able to have something breaded which is only 144 cals!!

I also buy turkey mince to make yummy guilt free bolognaise, lasagne and spicy burgersand my hubby loves them. I use cottage cheese and loads of veg for the lasagne and gain serve with side salad.

See it can be done very easily if you just get used to checking the cals on the side of packets - well it works for me anyway :)

x
