Ideas for Peanut Butter..
Ok, first of all.. I tried "Better N Peanut Butter" or whatever this morning. I was not impressed. It didn't taste like peanut butter and kind've made me feel ill. Needless to say, it's in my trash can and I'm sticking with all 169 calories of my regular "Naturally More" peanut butter.
Anyways.. I wanted to get some ideas of how other people use peanut butter?
I love it on bananas, apples and pears when it comes to fruit; celery and carrots as far as vegetables go; and oatmeal. How else do you make use of your peanut butter?
Eating it straight from the spoon doesn't count!
"Naturally More" is my favorite pb too :)
Pb on a toasted english muffin (this is one of my favorite breakfasts)
Pb on granny smith apples
Pb on wheat thins/pretzels (just have to be careful of the portion size)
My husband actually likes pb on those little vanilla cookies you can get...I think it sounds kinda wierd, but I haven't tried it yet.
And of course, the all popular pb&j (we use a fresh strawberry jelly that my husband's mom makes every spring and then freezes for us to use all year round...yummy!)
Ok! I'm glad SOMEONE else has heard of "Naturally More" because I haven't seen anyone else mention it before! It's seems so good for you though with the flax oil and flax seed that they use as well as all natural ingredients.
Mmm.. PB on a toasted english muffin that is then popped in the microwave for 10 seconds.. melty.. :)
I also make the following combinations of sandwiches on whole wheat bread:
-PB, banana, sugar free jam
-PB, sugar free maple syrup, banana
-PB, honey, and banana
-PB, banana, and Hershey's sugar free chocolate syrup
You can also "grill" any of the above combinations with a little ff cooking spray until the bread is golden and the PB is melty. It's heaven.
EDIT: forgot to add I also love it on saltines, or, when I'm trying to be healthier, Kashi original TLC crackers.
Hmm, something that hasn't been posted: adding peanut butter to smoothies. If you have some milk and a banana, add a tbsp of peanut butter with some ice and BAM, you have a delicious drink! Strawberries are also a great addition or substitute for banana.
I had it on Warm Noodles today! anddd it was really really good warm and melty.. and its good on Brown rice..... its just one of those things you have to try to believe me =] & nbsp;
Oh yeah andddd on Gramcrackers =]
I like to add 1 tbsp. PB to my oatmeal in the morning. The protein keeps me satisfied so that I'm not looking for something to munch on at 10:30.
But for a PB luxury, try toast with melted cheddar cheese (sharp is best) with PB. It get lovely and melty and the cheese and PB are great together. Don't freak out, people eat peanut butter w/ cheese crackers so I'm sure I'm not the only one to eat this.
and i know many people don't like Walden Farms products (the aftertaste isn't so great, but i can usually handle it or cover it with other foods. so i took less than a tablespoon of the chocolate dip sauce & had it on toast with pb. pretty good actually!
I know you said straight from the spoon doesn't count but does straight off the finger? ![]()
Sorry.
I also like to slice a banana lengthwise spread PB on both halves spoon vanilla yogurt on each half and top with grape nuts...so very good!
On apples and on a piece of really good dark chocolate too!
My all-time favourite oatmeal:
2/3 cup oats
1 cup water (some days I do 1/2 cup water, 1/2 cup skim milk for some extra protein)
Microwaved 2:20
Stir in 1/2 chopped banana, 2 tbsp milled flax, 2 tbsp sugarfree strawberry preserves (which actually has 6g fibre!), and 1 tbsp PB.
SO. GOOD.

Zinniah, I will check back to get your peanut sauce recipe. I would love to try it on my Fiber Gourmet Pasta!
Oh boy, I love this! It is a peanut dressing. I have used it on hot and cold noodles as well as a dipping sauce for steamed veggies and as a dressing on shaved cabbage, spinach and bean sprout salad.
This comes from The Moosewood Restaurant Low-Fat Favorites, it is a very well loved book in my kitchen. I highly recommend it to people wanting to eat a low-fat mostly plant-based diet that has lots and lots of flavor (there are some seafood dishes included but mostly vegetarian menus).
Whirl together in a blender or food processor:
- 3 Tablespoons of natural peanut butter
- 1/4 cup of water
- 1 minced garlic clove
- 1/2 - 1 fresh chili pepper, remove seeds for a milder "hot"
- 2 Tablespoons rice or cider vinegar
- 1 Tablespoon honey
- 1 Tablespoon soy sauce
- 1/4 cup diced tomatoes
- 2 teaspoons grated fresh ginger root
- 2 Tablespoons chopped cilantro
- 2 teaspoons fresh lemon juice
Keeps about 2 or 3 weeks in the fridge. 44 calories/ 1 oz.
Sometimes I will cheat a bit and use 1/4 cup of spicy salsa instead of the chopped tomato and fresh chili pepper. Also I have used dried ginger when I did not have any fresh on hand and it was still very good.
I am a peanut butter addict! Has anyone heard of Peanut Butter & Co's Dark Chocolate Dreams? It's probably the BEST peanut butter I've ever tasted; all natural, 170 cal for 2 tbsp, and tastes like you're eating some kind of gourmet dessert. (I sound like I'm getting paid for this...)
Anyway, I'll eat peanut butter on anything, but my favorite things are: Vanilla frozen yogurt, pretzel sticks, stir fry, toasted whole wheat english muffin or bread with some raspberry jam, banana slices, graham crackers, and Town House crackers. And my fingers, obviously.
When I was little, though, I used to dip peanuts in it. Geez.
Anyone else make the switch over to natural and kind of turned off by "normal" peanut butter now?

I like the idea of "grilling" it! It'd be like a peanut butter and banana panini! Mm.
