I'm really trying to cut some of my carbs and go for more protein. The problem is, I'm not sure what foods are higher in protein (other than red meat and nuts). Could you give me idea of what I could eat?
lowfat cottage cheese, greek yogurt, protein powder added to smoothies are usually how I get most of my protein. Also tofu, edamame, or any kind of soy has a good amount. You can add tofu to almost any dish and it just if you sqeeze the water out first it will absorb the flavor and wrk well.
I like to mix a little something sweet (frozen fruit or juice) in kefir (liquid yoghurt) for a smoothie. But Greek yoghurt is very efficient, I get 0%fat Greek yoghurt from Trader Joe's. tons of protein, I get it plain and add stuff to it for flavor.
I eat lean hamburger and serve it open face on a slice whole wheat bread (with veggies).
Egg whites
Beans, the miracle food.
Hallelujah for 0% Greek Yogurt! I just discovered this a couple of months ago and I am SO GLAD I did.
Definitely try it -- one serving has ~120 calories and 16g protein! Amazing! The plain is almost sour cream-like in taste so if tart's not your thing, I suggest adding some honey, agave nectar, or (my personal favorite): fresh fruit! They make 0% Greek Yogurt with flavors as well, but if you're trying to watch your sugar intake, I suggest getting the plain and adding fruit.
Also, anything soy. Tempeh. Quinoa. Mmm.
Ack! I keep forgetting about eggs! Thanks, guys. And, yeah, I'm not eating a balanced diet yet, hence the question about protein rich foods.

Open-face sandwiches are a great way to cut calories from your diet, especially if you want to reduce your caloric intake that you get from carbs. But remember, carbs are not what cause weight gain, calories do!
And in response to fuzzys' comment...there is a reason to worry about getting enough protein. Quality counts, and even though most foods have protein in them, not all proteins are "complete."

Everything that you eat has some protein in it. If you are eating a balanced diet and enough calories there is no reason to worry about "getting enough protein".
Incorrect. There are LOTS of foods that do not have protein in them. Most foods just don't have enough to satisfy your needs as well.
FISH, chicken, beef, FISH, turkey, lamb, egg whites, peanuts/almonds, FISH, dairy products, tofu, soy, and I almost forgot: FISH.
If you find it hard to change your foods, try adding a supplement to your water =) I think K2O (Kellog's) Is supposed to be pretty good, and it helps you fend off your appetite too!
ewwwwwww I tried K2O in the store once while I was walking around and I wanted to puke.
Lol - honestly, I've never actually tried it. I'd sooner go for cottage cheese when I need the protein! Yum

you forgot FISH!! and FISH! try Sushi! and Tuna & Salmon steaks & trout & SUSHI!!!!
(i <3 FISH)
I actually really like the Special K20 powdered tea. It's really sweet though so instead of one packet to 16oz of water I put on packet to 24-26 oz of water. You have to shake it up really really well before drinking also. I like it. The kiwi strawberry wasn't very good though. Didn't try the lemonade.

here's a list I found on about.com of high protein foods and how many grams they have :)

I never realized pumpkin seeds had so much protein!
dcyounts - I noticed you mentioned fish
I wish I could eat fish, but I don't eat anything that comes from the sea. Has nothing to do with taste (because I've never tasted fish), and everything to do with something mental. Everyone keeps telling me I'm missing out. I just can't do it, though. Wish I could.
I would ignore this product. It's made from a lower quality protein than real food so you're better off eating the foods mentioned above (including FISH!)

Hmm... according to Jessica Simpson, you could eat tuna... after all, it's just chicken. : )

This is bunk. The theory of needing eat "complete proteins" was disproven years ago. Sorry, do your research.
And yes, fruits, vegetables, grains, meats, dairy ALL have protein in them. Anything that was once alive or came from something that was alive, which is everything we eat, was made of amino acids aka protein.
Don't pay attention to fuzzys. You're looking for protein-rich foods. She just wants to say that everything has protein and that there is no need to concern yourself with getting enough. Everything living has protein. However, it can easily be removed. Not everything you buy in the grocery store has protein in it, for instance candy. Also, you won't get nearly enough protein from fruits/vegetables. Aim for atleast 100g per day. Most nutritionists recommend 1g per pound of weight. I eat about 250g per day.

Figure out what type of eater you are and you might just find the answer to permanent weight loss.
