I'm only 5'2 and I have very short legs does anyone have any tips on how i can tone them so they don't look so stumpy and jiggly.

Squats, lunges, half split squats, static weighted lunges, weighted step ups...dead lifts.......etc.

You will not make your legs any longer, but the jiggly....yep.

You can always run but I am not sure that will necessarily help. I have found that somethings are just genetic. If you think they (being your legs) have potential you could do things like calf raises...you just stand there and raise yourself to your tippy-toe position and then lower...do that throughout the day. I lie on my back with ankle weights, knees in the air, and lift my legs about 50 reps on each leg each day. This works your big thigh muscle. I have nice legs but I have a saggy butt...you win some; you lose some.

thanks for the tip I think I might try the ankle weight thing.

Sorry sarjane, but that "ankle weight thing" is ridiculous. Fitnesschick over there has it right

I second the squats, lunges, step-ups etc.  I'm not super tall either, but since I started doing weight training I have gotten more positive comments about my body than doing anything else.  You could also add interval training to your workouts.  Interval training really helps with fat loss, so you can see the wonderful muscle you have.  You can do interval training with lots of different activities too, so if you don't like to run you can do it on a bike, while swimming, on the elliptical, so long as you go hard for 1-2 mins and then go at a slower recovery pace for twice as long as your hard interval.  If you're using a machine they will often have interval or hill setting that you can use.

Because unless the ankle weights are made of lead and quite large then you're not going to be challenging your muscles at all.  The big muscles in your legs not only lift you but everything you carry, so your quads and hamstrings will not be working hardly at all if you are only lifting the 2 lbs that ankle weights usually are.  And if you are doing 50 reps then it is more of an endurance exercise than a strength one so you might as well go for a walk rather than lay on the bed and wave your legs around.

My legs are naturally thick as well. I am not short though. My thighs are my nemesis when I am fat. Yell

But when i got slim, they were the best part of me, surprisingly. I mean, really great. Curvy, sculpted and smooth at the same time. It is the first place the fat goes, and the last it leaves from. But when it does it is worth the effort.

I think that it is actually worse leg wise to carry all your weight up top and have really skinny legs, becuase builidng up calves is nearly impossible for some people I know. I know that if I lose all of the weight I need to, my legs will be awesome and it will only take one day a week of calf raises, and moderate weight conditioning to have my legs be wonderful again.

Your thighs could be a blessing in disguise Wink. Having your legs be large without effort is both a blessing and a curse. But I would take it over having to spend a year getting calves big enought to fit in boots or fill out leggings. (No offense to anyone, thick legs are not for everyone, besides- my legs are hardly anything to brag about right now anyways...)

But trust me, I know the pain.
