Idiot-Proof Diet / FatLoss4Idiots

Quote  |  Reply
Has anyone else out there tried this diet? I tried it some time ago pretty warily, since it promised "Lose 9lbs in 11days...!" Well I bought it and gave it a try anyway, I was a little desperate at the time and I did manage to lose six pounds in six days?!?! I didn't "balloon up" afterwards and gain it all back, I think I gained 1 pound back maybe and that was after a week.

OK.. the diet isn't exactly the most balanced diet out there imo, but I was just wondering... how is it even possible to lose six pounds in six days?? ?_? The meals were just too weird for me, and they don't work around my schedule anymore as I have another person to feed. Did anyone else ever try this and experience those weird results? Also, does there seem to be anything terribly dangerous about this diet, other than the really weird meals? Thanks.

yes ive done my own diets (not the ones you listed) and lost 9 in 6 days, kept if off, and am not obese (5'4--with my "diet" from lower 130's to 120's).

i know that our bodies have like 4-6pds or more of glycogen stores or something like that so thats why its so easy to drop them, then water weight also and so on. don't really know all the specifics but i just know its not really remarkable unless someone can find a way to drop 6 fat pounds in 6 days without being 600 pds.

question though, with the weight you lost, could you actually see it in significant places? besides for in your stomach (because clearly your stomach shrinks immediately with less food).

what were you eating for the 6 days?
In my stomach, the thing I really noticed was that my stretch marks were shrinking pretty fast. My thighs were what seemed to lose the most weight - they went from being insanely stretched out to having no stretch marks at all and lost an inch or two. My uh, chest, also seemed to lose too.

Each day was a different day.. the diet is kind of low-carb? Not 100% sure though. Basically the website generates an 11-day "menu" for you of different food, and you eat those foods at various meals depending on what day you are. I do know that one day is a 100% fruit day and another day is a 100% vegetable day, though. I can't really remember except the meals were really weird.. like one meal would be "cashews and cheese slices"..??? OK? And you could eat as much as you wanted of one or both foods as long as you didn't overeat (same for all meals.) I didn't bother counting the calories when I did it, though. If you google around a little a sample 1-day menu might come up, but it's usually pretty different for every day. You were also supposed to eat four meals at least 2 1/2 hours apart and 10glasses of water daily. Hmm.. that's all I can remember....
The minute you stop this diet, you will gain back every single pound, plus more, in an amazingly short period of time.

Is it worth that?
clairelaine why is it that your comments almost always seem to be giving wrong information?
I've never heard of it, but if you aren't getting enough nutrients, it's probably not too good for you.

It sounds like the key to this is the water drinking.   Most people in general don't drink enough water and their bodies go into water conservation mode.   In this mode the body doesn't know how much water to expect so it hoards it and stores it up.

Drinking plenty of water will flip this switch in your body as it knows it's back to getting plenty of water and it'll drop some weight fast.

Beyond that it sounds like a borderline starvation diet.

It would take eating 10 full grapefruits in a day to get 1200 calories.  It would take considerably more lettuce or other stuff.

So my guess is... it's a combo of water drinking and eating below the minimum calories but not actaully screwing up so bad as to go into starvation mode (which would take a while to fall into when you are eating so much).

It's not very nutritious at all either.
Pinthin, my comments are based on long experience.  I've tried everything except drugs over the course of the past 20 years. The only thing that works for sure and forever is controling calories and portions, and exercise.  It's very simple.
The only weight I gained back that I lost was about a pound, and also, I'm not sure if it's a "starvation diet" or "borderline starvation diet" but I have considered that. The diet allows you to eat as much as you want, but the food is mostly healthy foods like fruits, vegetables, fish, so it's possible that there just wasn't enough calories. As for the increased amount of water drinking, I have been drinking a good 12-15 8-oz glasses of water a day since junior high due to a bad encounter with a kidney infection, so I can't reason that it was extra water either. I think I can truthfully say that I gained ~1lb back as I did this diet about a year ago and have actually lost a little since then even though I haven't been seriously dieting (counting calories or on any other diet.)

I haven't tried it myself yet, but I stumbled upon a review about it at:

What do you think?

Actually this is the only "fad diet" I have tried. I did it for a few days and lost some weight (I don't remember how much now) but then I got tired of it pretty quickly.
Does anyone have a link to this diet? Where do you get it from? I'm interested to know about it. Although I don't do "fad diets" it's fun to read them! Sometimes you can get some good meal ideas!
Nevermind - jessyd's link has a link to the website.

Hey mcpchants,

What do you think about it?

Jessyd
Well, you can see the meal plans but it sounds ok. You're not depriving yourself from any food group, so it should be ok.
"you can" = you can't. You can't see the meal plans.
Doctors and medical professionals agree that healthy weight loss is achieved at approximately 1-3 lbs per week. Anything more than that for the long-term is not healthy...bottom line. Eating a nutritious diet and getting some exercise will help you lose weight and maintain your weight loss when done properly.
i just started to lose again this week. ..

4 days into it
6 pounds gone

my plan: 1200-1500 cals (1300 avg)
exercise: rode my bike once for 10 minutes. its too hot to exercise.

i know its water weight. but i just wanted to share that calorie counting can do the same thing.

which reminds me to happily update my ticker!
?
About the 1-3lbs per week. Sometimes you'll lose more than that - it just happens. About three to four years ago, I cut down my carb intake for just one week and lost 5lbs! It was crazy! Oh, and I also cut down sugar...and kept it off. So it depends, if your body is used to one thing then you cut it out, you might lose fast.
clairelaine was absolutely right, even if you dont gain it all back (which there is a excellent chance of), you could really do damage to your system by not eating what it needs.

Hi Jessyd

dI was wondering about this diet myself and had trouble finding a good explanation on what it was. Have any of you used it? What were your results?
