Idiotic product warnings
I wonder what makes people think that they aren't responsible for their actions? There are way too many examples of how people point the finger somewhere else and as a result it affects a lot of other people.
One such example- every time I get a coffee, my cup reminds me that the contents are hot. Well no freakin duh. My hairdryer has a sticker on the cord that tells me that it is not advisable to use it in water.
The sad thing is, they have these retarded warnings because someones probably actually done it and the company (or one who makes a similar product) has gotten sued over it.
Got any other good examples?
I remember that old lady that spilled McDonalds coffee on herself some years back. I believe she got somewhere in the area of 4 million dollars. If I had known at the time you could sue for something that stupid I would have dumped some hot coffee on myself and right now I would be on the beach not sitting at work. :)
Yep, those warnings are there because somewhere along the line, some company lost an idiotic lawsuit. Case in point - the woman who sued McDonalds because she spilled hot coffee on herself. And yes, I know they proved that the coffee was hotter than it had to be, but still. C'mon. If the coffee would have been not as hot, then people would complain about that, too.
My favorite warning is on the container of the "100% All Natural Parmesan Cheese" that's in my fridge. "CONTAINS DAIRY AND/OR DAIRY PRODUCTS."
Huhwha!? Cheese contains dairy? Get the heck out. *rolls eyes*
I had a curling iron once that came with a warning that it shouldn't be used near the genitals.
EDIT: Umm... it should've been shouldn't. heh.

McDonalds used to keep their coffee unreasonably hot, because if coffee burns your mouth you can't taste how bad it is. If they had kept their coffee at about the same temp as Starbucks or Dunkin Donuts nobody would have complained that it wasn't hot enough, they would complain that it tastes like crap.
The woman in question ended up with 3rd degree burns on her lap because McDonalds kept their coffee way too hot and had cheap lids that didn't stay on the cups.
though i disagree that i am all that affected by these labels, i do sometimes giggle - which to me, is a good thing!
- Do not put any person in this washing machine
- Do not iron while wearing shirt (on an iron-on decal)
- Safety goggles recommended (on a letter opener)
- Remove child before folding (on a baby stroller)
- Harmful if swallowed (on a fishhook, and ironically it's not written in a language fish can understand)

I bought a packet of nuts that said 'may contain traces of nuts'

haha! I thought the same thing when I purchased peanuts and the pacakges said "contains peanut."
It's so ridiculous that companies need to cover their asses to that extreme

oh god I just vomited a little! I hope no one has long enough hair to be curling it!
nuts, dairy, peanuts, soy, milk and I think 3 others must be labled in a highly visible location, usually under the ingredients, no matter what, because of the most common food allergies. It's a 'duh' thing for a pack of sunflower seeds to say 'may contain traces of nuts' - but due to federal law, it must be there so people who are allergic can pick up a package of cookies, cereal or other complex foods and go.. oh, soy, no good there, and the lable just gets included on minor things too. My husband is allergic to MSG, so the labeling is very important to us too. Including the 'has been made on equipment that also processes nuts' can be vital information that didn't exist before to a small number of people - small, but it's lifesaving, in some cases.
Everyone else has already brought up the coffee example. Things that are common sense just aren't anymore. Or they do something stupid once, and it doesn't hurt them, so they just keep on doing it and don't see the problem because they haven't been hurt 'yet'.

Actually the woman placed the cup of coffee between her legs and the woman driving came to a sudden stop, the lady reacted by flenching her legs. THAT is how the coffe was spilt on her. She didn't blame the person driving, she didn't blame herself for being stupid, she blamed the company with the money. She was an elderly lady and did get serious burns HOWEVER you should not put even 175 degree coffee between your legs. Which was what the new standard became after that suit. The coffee in question was 190 degress so 15 degrees isn't going to make that much a difference if your being a dumba$$. The lid had nothing to do with it, even a good lid would have crushed between someone's legs. I'm surprised there isn't a warning not to put a hot cup of coffee between ones legs on the cup too.
I love how most products have an 800 telephone number to contact for questions, comments, or emergencies.
I mean has anyone really called up the dental floss 800 number to say, "Hey, just calling to say keep up the great work, guys!"
While working in the service department of a motorcycle dealership I chanced to read the back of a tub of Harley-Davidson waterless hand cleaner.
It read: Contains petroleum based chemicals, avoid all contact with skin.
um, ok

Screw Driver set <--- this one was my favorite!! i can see how someone might need a little reminder :/
Hot wires <--- hmmm... so bill me the fine?
Matress label,"do not remove under penalty of law".
Am particularly amused by some of the drug company ads you see on TV. Dunno if nausea, recurring infections and possible liver failure is worth it to lower my cholesterol 10 points.
Sleep walking, sleep eating, and other sleep activities with amnesia have been reported with Ambien.
