I'll be 43 this June anyone around the same age want to join my weight loss quest?
Greetings!
I am hoping that this site I stumbled on will help me out. I have been on a diet or fighting with food my entire life. About 8 years ago I lost about 100 pounds, my lowest weight was 204 then I had my first child at 40. Now I am 220 and he'll be three this June. The only good news is that I do not weight 300 + pounds anymore having said that - No excuses, my food addiction problem has been out of control now since his birth. I try - and try - and try - and still nothing seems to be working. Maybe I can find a friend here who will help give me the strength I need to be healthy. I need to stay alive for my family.

Hi all. It's a nice day here and I've been out in the yard weeding. Love flowers- hate to weed but oh well. Been doing well staying on track this week and have been trying more exercise. I have a girl that I exercise with and that helps but it's hit or miss. With school being out it's a little more difficult to coordinate schedules so its more "miss" than "hit" right now.
Terry -I saw your great pics. You seem to really have a knack for photography.
Kristine - are back on track now?
wants2bhot - thanks for the encouragement
Enjoy the sunshine (if you have it) :) Jen
Hello all,
I need to start tracking my calories again.I kinda let that fall to the way side when my dad died, and I was up north for a few weeks. I have been playing with the same 1 pound for 3-4 weeks.I gain it........ i lose it.......I gain it back again. Its been hard paying attention,I guess I should be happy its only a pound. When I am stress,unhappy.etc.etc.........that is usually an open door to over eat. SO i guess it could be worse.
I am leaving for the Outer Banks in two weeks.I cant wait. I have been looking forward to this for months.I was hoping I could have lost 40 pounds before I went but should be happy that i have lost almost 30.............
Hello all, hope I can still jump into this group.
Im 43, and weigh 404. I want to lose 50 pounds by Dec 31. And go from there.
This will be my first attempt at a diet in my life. But I am 100% commited and know I need to make a huge life change.
The hardest part for me will be living as a single male and finding the right things to eat and sticking with them.
Still figuring out this site and how it can help. I do know I need to start controlling my calorie intake, just unsure how low I should go.
Cbear - good for you for almost losing 30lbs! You have had a tough year and should be very proud of yourself for doing so well!
Jen - I'm really trying to get back on track. I'm mentally getting there - just need to start exercising again. I plan on doing something tonight - whether its a bike ride or getting on the treadmill - I'm itching to do something! I was taking a bike ride after dinner with the kids but my son fractured his foot on Sunday so those little trips are over for a while. I think he is going to miss those rides the most but I'll find something else to keep him happy! Not easy for a 6 year old to not be running around!
Welcome to the group Rick. I think you will like it here. We try to keep each other motivated and on track! We usually weigh in on Friday mornings. It help keep you motivated when you have to check in.
There is a tool in the database where you enter your settings that will help you determine how many calories you should eat. Try that. Have patience and don't set unrealistic goals for yourself. YOU CAN DO THIS!
Cbear - almost 30 lbs is still significant! It's great that you haven't gone overboard especially at this painful time.
Welcome to the group Rick! We're a friendly and supportive bunch here :)
I'm trying to get my exercise back on track. My work has been running late, so I'm tired when I get home and I don't want to do anything, but I have to get back into it. We have another cottage weekend this weekend, and I'll try to be better there than I was last time. We're there for four days this time, YAY!
Hi everyone and welcome Rick!
I've been absent a few days and nice to see you all chattin up a storm! I'm still going to the gym and since last Tuesday have lost 4 pounds. So now I'm at 179! Finally under 180! I had gained a few pounds from the chips and ice cream but the gym has gotten me back on track and very motivated. My 15 yr old son is going to the gym with me now and it's so much fun working out with him, even if its hard to keep up! :D
Terry - can't wait to see the pics of the everglades! WOW!
cbear - 30 pounds is alot to have lost and you should be proud of yourself :)
Have a nice evening!
I have a diet buddy at my office, she is in her 60's and has still managed to lose almost 60 lbs in about 6 months. She still has a long way to go, but I find it so motivating to know that she has 20 years on me and is able to lose that kind of weight. She cannot do anymore exercise than walking, but she watches what she eats and it is really paying off for her. Rickj64 I would suggest alot of what she does for you, she tries to make sure that she eats more fruits and veggies and she watches the portions. If she goes out to eat she orders off a children's menu whenever they will let her and if that is not possible, she asks for a to go container to be brought with her meal and immediately puts half of the meal in the box. She walks whenever she can even if it is just a trip around the block. She has already gotten off two of her medications (at her Dr's request) and when her Dr saw her last week he looked at her and said "Have you been trying to lose weight?" She just laughed and told him what she was doing and he was very pleased with her. When she told me about her Dr visit I told her that he was probably worried that there might be something wrong since she had dropped all that weight, she hadn't thought of it that way and she was wondering how he expected someone to lose about 10 lbs a month without trying... She is so funny!
I have been at Vacation Bible School all week, I get up at about 4:30am and go to work, leave the office and run to pick up my 3 oldest grandchildren, take them to church and run after kids till after 9pm, then I drive them all home and get to bed around 10:30pm. I am a zombie at this point. If I haven't lost something by Friday I may have a nervous breakdown! This has to have been good enough to drop one lb. If you have never been to one of these events you should hear 75 kids singing, yelling, etc...they are so pumped at the end of the evening, it makes you feel good (exhausted, but good). I hope everyone else is having a less active week!
Missykris-sorry to hear about the job. I hope you can deal with all that stress!
wants2behot-sounds like you have a great attitude, I hope we can help you!
Jen - you seem to have quite a bit of self control going on!
Cbear119 - I have been (finally) getting past one of those same points, stuck bouncing up & down a couple of lbs. I lost pretty consistently the first 20-30lbs and then stalled, I think I may have broken that cycle (for now) so hang in there you can beat those lbs into submission.
rickj64 - glad to have you with us, glad to hear that you are so commited. We are all here to try and keep each other commited!
hi everyone!
Having bad storms here and kept me awake last night. So very tired today. I don't know if I can make it to the gym. Gonna try later though after taking a nap.
Grillin' today so I'll eat my turkey burgers while everyone else eats kielbasa and hot dogs. I don't even miss those foods anymore. Isn't it strange how your taste can change?
well, check in later! Have a nice day? :D
Hello again everyone! I've been slacking on the workout front, but I've been eating pretty well. We're going to a friend's cottage for 4 days this weekend, so I'll have to try to be good there! It's Friday, so I'll start off the weigh-in :)

Omagraf - Sandy 154.5 (down 1.5)
Hi all,
Congrats both Cynthia and Sandy - you are doing great !!
Getting somewhat frustrated in I still am at the same weight as 2 weeks ago :(
I did well with both the eating and the exercise and really expected something to show for it.
Oh well - this is a lifestyle change not a diet so I will keep plugging along.

MissyKris - Kristine 176 - no change :-(
Guess i deserve that. Definitely fell off track the last week or so. I did go out for a bike ride Wednesday night and got on the treadmill last night.
Cynthia - have a great time at the cottage. sounds SO relaxing!
Tammy - don't overdue the gym or you will burnout fast. I used to feel if I didn't go and work out like crazy why bother...but now I am seeing that even getting on the treadmill and walking on a incline is just as good. I enjoy it more!
Sandy - great numbers this week! You are doing great!
Jen - don't get frustrated. We all go through it. You have the right attitude!
Have a great weekend everyone!
Hi again all,
Just wanted to see if any of you have had experiences with hormone replacement therapy in general and weight loss specifically. I just started and wanted any info you may have as to what to expect. My gyne was strongly encouraging me to start as I had (at 42) a hysterectomy with removal of ovaries.
I did start but I am having some reservations about it. I've not had any significant problems so far with night sweats/hot flashes etc. so my feeling is why is it so urgent I start.
Thanks for the help, Jen

Cbear~254 ~ still playing with that same pound.......
Hang in there you guys with the no change and up & down a lb. If you look back at the weigh ins you'll see I have been hovering for a while now. You can get past it if you hang in there, your body will catch on! Why did God make women storage units? We have a body build for long term fuel storage and survival (no wonder we feel so sexy). HAH! You gotta laugh at it or you will scream....right?
Jen, I can't be too much help with the hormones. I only had a partial Hyst., my dr didn't want me to have to go on the HRT's. She isn't happy about them. As I remember if I had to go on them I was going to have to be monitored to make sure there were no "issues" (see the tv commercials for the full disclaimer list).
Hey rickj64, I hope you don't freak over the girl talk. I know Terry is out of town but I don't want you to think you walked into what my grandma would call a henfest.

Momof2 - Tammy - 178.6 (I'm going down!)
It's been a while since I weighed in here so now sure how much I've lost since my last posted weight. I know I went up to 184 (gained a few) and since going to the gym (started 6-17) I've lost 6 lbs.
Can't wait to get to 175!!! I can see it, now I just have to get there! :D
Happy Monday everyone! Did everyone behave over the weekend? I did ok.
But listen to this.....I weighed 177 yesterday and I get on the scale today, which is btw my "usual" weigh in day and I see 183 on the scale!!! Can a person retain that much water during ttom? Unbelievable!!! I am bloated and have cramps like crazy. But I just stopped ttom a couple weeks ago. Can my weight loss be affecting me that much? WOW! I started going to the gym a couple weeks ago too. Is my body just adjusting to the changes I'm making???
Any response will be helpful. Thanks. :D
yikes! that a big difference. I'd give it a couple of days and I bet your weight will go back down to what you have been seeing. It definitely can be a combination of TTOM and going to the gym (Muscle weighs more than fat) - I bet in a couple of days things will even out.
Don't panic! Keep doing what you are doing because you are doing great!
I ate pretty good this weekend but didn't get much exercise at all. My 6 yr old son fractured his foot last week so our nightly bike rides have come to a halt. My husband works nights so I can't even get out on my own. I'm just going to have to try to sneak in some time for me - get to the gym at lunchtime more often and use my treadmill more. I don't like exercising indoors during the nice weather but at least it will be a temporary fix! Most important is letting my little guy heal. He's a very active kid too so its hard for him to sit and rest!
missykris - I always retain alot of water. I took a midol which has a diuretic in it for water and I lost 3 lbs during the day. And that's with eating and drinking. So maybe in a couple days I'll be back to normal again! And your poor son! He must be just "fit to be tied" wanting outside. :( Hope he gets better soon!
Still alittle concerned abot ttom coming again so soon! YIKES!
Went to the gym today and biked 5 miles and walked for 3 miles. Didn't do any weights today. THAT was plenty for me for one day. ;D
I can do lots of the sudden weight gain also. That is part of why I cannot weigh too often (it makes me crazy). I have taken things to help reduce the retention but when I know I am getting that way I really watch the sodium and drink more water to try and head it off. Isn't it crazy how you can be so much heavier in no time at all with that? I had to stop using the scale for over a year because of all the flux, I try to weigh no more than twice a week and I watch my clothes to see how they fit instead of watching what the scale says.
It is probably a good thing to remember that even if you weren't losing weight the exercise is good for your body, hang in there!

So you can log your weight -- which allows you to do the following:
- Plot your weight curve
- Analyze the trend of your weight (see under Recent in the figure above)
- Determine the projected target date (see under Overall in the figure above)
