I'll be 43 this June anyone around the same age want to join my weight loss quest?
Greetings!
I am hoping that this site I stumbled on will help me out. I have been on a diet or fighting with food my entire life. About 8 years ago I lost about 100 pounds, my lowest weight was 204 then I had my first child at 40. Now I am 220 and he'll be three this June. The only good news is that I do not weight 300 + pounds anymore having said that - No excuses, my food addiction problem has been out of control now since his birth. I try - and try - and try - and still nothing seems to be working. Maybe I can find a friend here who will help give me the strength I need to be healthy. I need to stay alive for my family.

Hey everyone and WELCOME to all the new folks.
I hope things are going well for you guys. So far things are going fine on my side. Almost two weeks and so far it has been really easier than I thought and the results are MUCH better than I thought. I guess it is amazing what happens when I am not eating fast food three times a day and sitting on my butt.
I am still shooting for 1500 calories a day, which is 500 less than the site says I need to lose. I figure that way if I have a bad moment, I have a little cushion. I don't find myself hungry which is surprising, but I am eating pretty regular in regards to quantity, just sticking to low fat, low calories. The biggest problem is eating out, but I stick to grilled chicken, veggies, etc.
Exercise has been a little tough. It is more a time thing than anything else. I am trying to ride the bike 12 miles a day and walk 2-3 miles on the treadmill. The problem is the insane boredom, so I have been doing my walking at the mall some days. The past few days I have been going to the mall across the street on my lunch break and getting all my walking in. I can't wait for winter to break so I can get outside!
Trying not to weight myself everyday, but here is my log so far...9 pounds in 10 days. I realize that isn't normal and will not continue, but
2/11 - 270
2/14 - 267
2/19 - 264
2/21 - 261
Can't say that I am disappointed...in fact, I am thrilled, but the pessimistic side of me wonders why it is going so well and the next time I get on the scales I will be 5lb more than I started.
Oh well..sorry for the rambling, but wanted to check in.
Terry
PS...I added a new "goal". In addition to being under 200lbs by the end of the year, I also am wanting to run a 5K over the Thanksgiving weekend.
Hey mavmom,
In answer to your question about stomach surgery - yes, I've been approved for it and I need to lose 8 more lbs before I can schedule a surgery date. (NO FLAMING PLEASE) I know many people think I'm taking the easy way out, but believe me - it's not easy. I know several people who have had the surgery, a couple have kept the weight off, one never lost all the weight, and one lost it all and gained it all back. So it's not a full-proof surgery. It's a tool, you still have to make good food choices, exercise portion control and exercise, or you end up right back where you started.
Hey guys.....don't forget that tomorrow is weigh-in!
I hope everyone dropped a good 5 pounds this week!

Good morning, I guess we need to start checking in this morning. I'll attempt to start the list here.... I will not try to put all the names on here, I am sure I would forget someone. I started with our newbie Frank and then listed my self. I listed logon, current weight, name and loss (hopefully) for the week. Just cut, paste and add yourself! Good luck!

Good Morning All~~
I've not any good news to report again this week....I'm in a slump and cannot lose anymore weight. If any of you have suggestions I'm ready to listen. I'm killing myself in the gym each day....and I've really been careful about portion control (I think). I've developed tennis elbow and the extreme cold is effecting my knees so I'm hoping this doesn't effect my workouts for next week! Anyway, sorry for sounding so negative today. I wish all of you much success!! Congrats to all of you with a loss to report this week. ![]()

abwy - Hope - no changeDeybozz, lots of things could be going on here. I know that before I started checking everything on this site I was stuck also. Have you been logging all your foods and checking the calories? You may need to watch the fats more than the proteins. Also for me I have found that my weight will not change if I eat after 7 pm. I tried a week where I ate pretty much the same as I had been and just making sure that I stopped eating 3 hours before bed made me lose.
Try to chart what and when you eat and then look back on what you have been doing. Try changing the time of day or the calorie content, it really sounds like you are getting good exercise (certainly more than me). Also don't forget to keep an eye on your fluids, maybe you aren't drinking enough. My thing lately has been picking apart what and when I eat. It has helped so far, my next step is exercise (my plan is to really work on that next month). I was afraid that if I focused too broadly on what I wanted to accomplish I would be overwhelmed.
Hi Omagraf,
Very good points! I agree with everything you say. A lot of people say 'a calorie is a calorie' which is true to some extent, but women and hormones are very complicated. So, fine tuning what and when you eat can help.
And I agree to start losing weight and exercising at the same time can be very daunting. Since I know exercising is my weakness I started with that. Today is my 8 month anniversary working out with Jane , my personal trainer. She is my savior!
Hi Denise,
I went through Nov/Dec with just a 3 lb weight loss! I was logging my food with my personal trainer, everything looked good, but very little movement with the scale. January starts, nothing, finally -1 lbs, then -6, then -2 all within 10 days. So, keep it up, evenutally your body will catch up.
Just a few things for you to double check....
Are you eating enough?
Do you weigh and measure your food? I know it's a bore but do it once in awhile as a reality check, sometimes portions slowly grow and you just don't realize what you are actually eating.
Are you logging your food? I am one who has to log everything b/c when I don't I start mindless eating and then the pounds just pile on.
I don't know your workout routine, but do you vary it? That really helps. Are you stregth training and doing cardio?
Above all, don't give up! We're here for you!
Happy Friday everyone!
I have had a great week so far. I had a few, what I considered, slip ups, but still came up ahead of the game. :) It could be that I had a high sodium meal the night before the first weigh in. Wouldn't it be nice if the weight ALL came off as easy as it did this first week? Very little on the intentional exercise but I guess having three kids, cat, dog, new puppy and large house that needs cleaning every so often adds up in the calorie expenditure column :)
I hope that everyone has a great weekend :)

Hello mavmom
I am willing to join you in this quest. I seem to have a problem losing then gaining right back. I need low cal, and low fat, but my husband needs high cal and fat. 2 years ago he fell ill spent 1month in hospital fighting for his life. The stress was too much and my diet went out the door, now I am going to try once again.
My morning and afternoon meals are not a challenge for I eat them at work. My evening meal is the most difficult. My husband cooks the evening meal since he is disabled and now retired. He keeps in mind that he has to put on the weight. It's been a long difficult journey for him. When he came home he weighed 104 pounds he has slowly gained up to 124 pounds. His meals are very delious, but high in calories. What can I do?????????????????? I am stuck and wish not to discourage his weight gain.
OOOPppppppsssssssssssss
allow me to introduce myself. I am Arlis, mother of two grown daughters, 2 dogs and 1 cat LOL. I am 44 heading to 45 as of April. Nov 16 2007 I be came Activity Director instead of House Keeper of Westview Manor. I passed my course 100%. This encouraged me more since I had not had any schooling since I graduated high school. I am 190 and hoping to get down to 135 by end of the summer. I enjoy the outdoors and this Kansas weather, keeps changing on me one day it can be beautiful and the next thing you know we are burried with ice and snow. Closest mall is 30 miles away, so I try to walk much at work. This is day one for me so any exercise suggestions are welcomed. I have noticed in my previous attempts if I cut out my diet sodas I have much better results, I also do not due much caffine for it causes me to constantly run to the restroom to urinate. Trying to locate a low carb list of vegetable and fruits that I can eat in place of the high ones my husband needs.
I will post photo later since I just my computer cleaned out and updated. Photos are all on disc.

Well, I hope I am not attempting to join in too late. I read the posts and when I got to the last one, I decided I needed to see if I could join you all. I started CC on the 8th of February. I didn't weigh myself since the end of January, but I think I have lost about 13 pounds so far. Like Tina, I will be turning 40 in a few months (July, 2008). I am 5'5'' and 185 pounds...down from 198. My goal is 135 or so, but would be really OK at about 145. I have been a serial dieter for the last 10 years or so...somehow I hit 30 and my metabolism took a dive. It seems like every bite I eat sticks to me now. It is hard because for the first 30 years, I ate what I wanted, when I wanted with no major weight gain. Those days are over.
I would love some help in sticking with this plan and would love to share my tips and encourage the rest of you.
I just want to look "LIKE ME" at my 40th birthday party in July....thank you.
We are becoming a real crowd here! This is great, when I first started checking out this site there were so many posts from people that could have been my kids that I thought I'd never find someone to talk to!
Welcome to the newcomers. I hope everyone had a good weekend, I did not behave too well myself. I didn't eat badly, but I did not exercise (outside of cleaning and chasing small children).
hirshys - if the hubby cooks the non-diet foods then try to start your meal with a glass of water and salad. When you eat an entree, either serve yourself a small portion (serve with a utensil that you will eat with) if he serves then divide the portion on your plate into 1/4's eat one 1/4 then stop and drink some. Try to see how many of those 1/4's you can put away for a good lunch for your husband. I am great about doing things when I focus on others, so personally I would remind myself that if I didn't eat much he would have lunch leftovers that he didn't have to "fix" for himself (it is better that he eat that than that you do). Also, if he needs to put on weight is it possible that he eats the same foods as you and just supplements his meals with the specialty calorie boosting products? I have known people who had to use those kinds of supplements and using them while still maintaining a healthy eating plan is really a good way to go. There are lots of them available through the vitamin stores. He should be focused on the right kinds of calories not just high calories, maybe you need to ask his dr about it? My grandmother's dr was a good old boy who asked her what she liked to eat (she was 100 lbs at her heaviest), she mentioned that she enjoyed a beer now & they and he told her to start having a little beer with her meals (she was over the moon about that diet trick). Of course it took her two meals to finish a bottle of beer (she truly ate like a bird).
Any way, I digress...
Hello ladytina, sounds like you are off to a good start! Keep up the gym work! My gym work has come to a screeching halt the past few weeks, as I am helping a co-worker who had back surgery and can't drive. Severely curtails my personal time, she gets a dr's checkup today so maybe they will clear her to drive again soon. I just can't NOT help some one out...
Call me a soft touch.
Hello tamcc72768 hope all is going well so far, you are about my height and your goal is about the same as my own. At this point I am going to celebrate if I see a number under 160 on the scale. I think that that is my FIRST goal, I cannot remember how many years it has been since I saw that kind of number on my scale...
.
I can't wait to read about everyone's weekend. Let me know how things are going for you. Sandy
How do pounds equate to women's plus sizes?
Unfortunately, the measurements of women's plus size clothing varies from manufacturer to manufacturer. A 1X top in one brand could be a 3X in another... Read more
