And wanted to say hey to everyone! I pushed too hard and ended up getting shin splints (ow ow ow) and had to basically hault any training I was doing. I was allowed to use the gazelle a bit but it was nothing compared to what I was doing on the track so I gained back a bit of weight. But I'm fixing it. I know some of it is muscle gain and honestly am not 100% sure where the "extra" weight is because I had to buy a new pair of jeans.... and not just new jeans but a Smaller Size.... I fit an 8 again!
I pulled my back about 2 weeks ago so even though I feel ok now I'm giving it another week before I start in on my new training program. Saw the doc Monday and it's his advice to retrain a new way and try to ditch my brace while we're at it. I'm showing signs of weakness in the knee and it's a worry since my leg is basically used to the brace doing the work for it so we're trying to cut it out before I end up with something else going wrong with my leg.
I'm probably going to need it for longer distance runs and races (when I'm at that point) and we're fairly certain it'll be a permanent fixture if I get back into triathlon for the run phase. But... getting out of it for other exercise is going to be a nice thing. He said I could start this week but I'm on the better safe then sorry camp on this one and being careful with my back.
I'm starting with a laughable 1/2 mile. I honestly can't ever remember doing 1/2 mile workouts... 12 mile yes; but 1/2.. maybe back in 5th grade before I started cross country in junior high lol. But I want my knee to gain strength and quit being so lazy and dependent on the brace.
I get to walk to the track and back (1/4 mile total) so my full workout is technically 3/4 mile for the 1st 3 weeks. Week 1, I'm only allowed to run 1/4 mile, split into 1/8ths with 1/4 walked between. Week 2, the walk distance gets decreased to half and run instead and then week 3 I'm supposed to run the full 1/2 mile. Then I can add 1/4 mile in for wk 4-5 and if I'm able to run the whole thing at least 2x on week 5 then I can move up to a full mile for week 6.
I'm mad I'll miss a 5k in Feb but it is what it is. If I hadn't pushed so hard in the fall I'd be fine but I was worried about times for this 5k and now I can't do it because I was so stubborn.
So I guess that's my update in a nutshell. Missed being around here but I'm back on the program now =) Hope everyone else is doing well.
Ok I deviated my own plan lol. Did my day 1 of 30 day shred on thursday instead of next Tues like I planned. I really like it lol. Enough that I did another go at it this morning. Finally found something that I can Actually feel the burn in the inner thigh where I Need it so I'm a happy person.
I can't wait for Monday to go run. My back is fine and I'm just itching to go. Taking the extra week out was the safe option I think and this is all going to be starting off on the right foot. I hate the fact that it's such a short run because it makes me feel really low but I have to start somewhere.
If my doc wasn't a runner I'd let it all go in one ear and out the other but I know deep down he's right. And he's been there with an ankle injury. I guess the best thing I can keep reminding myself is by my birthday (middle of my week 7) I'll be able to hopefully run a full mile, no brace, without dying. That'd be a great birthday present to myself.
Just hope I can stay on track, be careful and not have another setback, and of course... do as well as I'm hoping!
Isn't it obnoxious when our bodies just won't freakin' cooperate?? I'm glad you're feeling better and I hope your short run is a good one!
My body is better at that then most lol but I'm working on getting it all back. It's amazing what can happen from a serious injury and then all the collateral damage getting out of shape and gaining a lot of weight adds. I keep telling myself Rome wasn't built in a day and getting into my peak form took Years; the injury basically destroyed it so I'm rebuilding.
Run went GREAT!!!!! (thanks!) I probably could have run the whole thing but I'm behaving. That's the hard part. Just kept telling myself I have Shred/elliptical tomorrow...run Weds... repeat for Th/F and I really don't want to push too hard after my weekend off. Might not make the week otherwise!
Knee is a little stiff now (most of me feels it) but it could be the fact that it's in the 30s here doing that to me....or I didn't kick my bug like I thought and will relapse.
Whoever stole the heat I want it back! Going from 70s to 38 is not fun.
