It turns out, despite the insistence of well-intentioned family and friends, that I was not, in-fact "big-boned."  I'm perfectly average-boned now, TYVM.

But here's some of the more euphemistic terms that I heard...

"Sweetheart, you're not fat, you're....

 - Big-boned

 - Heavy

 - Dense

 - Cuddly

 - Lovable

 - Thick

 - Extra-proportional

So, what did/do you hear to describe your extra-ness?

I've mainly heard SOLID in reference to male football players who were both strong and somewhat overweight.  "That offensive linemen is solid!" or "That sumo wrestler is solid!"

Dense seems quite inapropriate because fat is less dense than the rest of the body.

Big boned is silly too... "I'm not fat, I'm big boned"... yeah right, give me a break.

I regret to admit... but I once knew a girl who we all called "bowling ball" because she was only about 4'10" and was maybe 200 lbs.  We never said it to her face though...

In my world when a man calls a woman thick that is a total complement.  I see the same thing in the hip hop community and I am starting to see it more and more in the main stream.  There is a hug difference between being fat and being thick.

Skinny Kirsty alley is thick, fat Kirsty Alley is well fat.  That goes for Oprah as well. We are getting closer to the the victorain age thinking again.

aww- we say my young niece is solid- she doesn't have an ounce of fat on her body- weighs more than she looks b/c ,well, she is rock solid :( Hope she never heard anyone say that and takes it as an insult

Let's see...

stolid, portly, soft, well-padded, moony (WTF????????), comfy, puffy (makes me think of those pufferfish sushi we had a while back), I've heard of rubenesque... but I would really hate to look like ruben's naked beauties... cellulite... lol. Em, there's also woodsy (?) or 'bulb-like' or as a joke, 'vertically challenged' since i'm short =D

"Pleasantly plump"

It went something like this,

"You're not fat darling, you are just pleasantly plump, just the way I like you. " -----my aunt was trying to be nice, ruined my day.

or my dad .. its because you are a "STRONG WOMAN" -- (in a total european accent) ...i just feel soo manly whenever he says that.

beautiful.

My grandmother from Mexico always called me "Gordita" which in Mexico is kind of like a tortilla....only thicker. Yay.  And my name is Marcela---so my nickname (from the mean kids) in grade school ended up being Marshmallow....
