I'm going to a birthday party tomorrow...

They're serving cupcakes and maybe some other food. She made them herself from scratch (and they're delicious, I've had them before) and I don't want to be rude and refuse one...

I'm only 5 days into my diet, so eating one doesn't really settle right with me. But then again, I don't want to be the only one NOT eating one and be rude. What should I do?

Well.. what I would do is... eat just one and get extra exercise that day.  Or eat lightly throughout the day and allow yourself a treat.

This is a lifestyle you have adopted, and as such, it needs to fit into your life.  Have one cupcake and chalk it up to a special occasion.  If you really feel the need to, you can do what sarah_b recommended and eat lightly through the day or get some extra exercise.  But really, one cupcake one day out of the week isn't really going to make much difference in the long run, and it's better than standing there drooling...

Good luck!

Don't eat the cupcake sweetie.  saying "no thank you" will be the best think you ever can do.  You will leave that party like "that was the best party ever"

all because you didn't cave.  Trust me it feels good.  if she is really pushy there is a 3 bite rule but try to say no thank you politely 3 x's first. if it isn't working savor 3 small bites. then out with it.  Learning to throw food away is the best thing ever for losing weight.  Being brought up to eat all on my plate almost ruined me. Good luck. you can do it Just say no cupcakes are for kids anyway eh!

Good luck Tjlo

I'm afraid I must disagree Wink

Jpegg0: here's what I'd do. If I want the cupcake, I have the cupcake. I make a decision, I stick to it, I enjoy it, and I don't beat myself up about it afterwards. It's not 'caving', it's allowing yourself a treat from time to time. If we can't learn to do this occasionally, then there's very little hope for us in the long-term: we just end up feeling deprived and miserable.

The best thing ever for losing weight is not, I believe, learning to throw food away - it's learning to eat healthily, and in moderation. There's certainly room for the occasional indulgence  in a good, healthy diet - in fact, I'd argue it's necessary (for mental health primarily, lol).
