I'm Bloated! Will it go away?

Quote  |  Reply

I'm on my period, and I look pretty bloated. Will it go away soon? And is this normal? (I've not had my period much, so I still don't entirely understand it)

How bodies react to menstruation varies from individual to individual.  The bloating could be coincidental, of course.   To reduce bloating generally make sure you're drinking plenty of plain fluids.... water, teas... throughout the day, since dehydration is linked to bloating.  Eat regularly, spreading light meals and snacks out throughout the day.... because eating a lot in one sitting can also cause excessive gas.   Avoid certain 'gas generators' like raw vegetables, beans, lentils, cruciferous veggies (broccoli, cabbage, sprouts) and fizzy drinks.   And swap any sugary foods or refined/processed carbohydrates (white bread, white rice, sugary breakfast cereals) for less refined, less processed ones (wholemeal bread, brown rice, oatmeal).

It's very normal. My bloat always goes away during the last day of my period. I always expect to gain about two pounds the day I'm going to start. Never fails, and it always disappears. Don't worry!

Sweet, thank you! My period is slowly stopping and I already feel better! Yay for water and excercise!

Bloating can also occur due to an excessive amount of salt you get from your daily diet. Salt makes you retain water so you feel heavier and bloated. I get that every time I eat something like potatoe chips or roasted peanuts ( I just love those), given that I drink a lot of water, and during the summer, eat watermelon. It usually goes away after a good rest, exercise helps too.
