I've been trying to lose weight for MONTHS now..

In the past 3 weeks i have righted my wrong and started eating 1700 cals(lowering now to 1500) and i burn at least an extrya 370cals a day.. .most of my day deficets are about 800 so i should be getting at least that 3500 calorie burn for a pound a week.

It's not coming off.. i'm so frustrated i could scream. I know before i wasn't eating well, i was practically starving myself, but really you would think 3 weeks would be enough for my body to get used to me treating it "right".

i hate this, i'm about to give up and get happy at my 195 because if i've done the math right, i i shoujld havelost at least 4-5 pounds now and i havent

What am i doing wrong????? why does God hate me. UGHHHHHHHHHH

Trying to lose weight can be very frustrating.  We want results fast and with out any bumps or detours on our journey but we didn't gain the weight overnight...so we need to continue working at this because we aren't going to lose it overnight either.  It's frustrating when our bodies don't always do what we want it too.  You said it yourself that in the past you didn't eat healthily so why don't you use that as motivation..keep telling yourself that are going to live a healthy life and that includes treating your body right.

You could be stuck for a number of reasons: overestimating/underestimating your calories, not eating enough for exercise, health problem like thyroid, body still stuck in starvation mode (must be patient with this)....

If you keep eating healthy and taking care of your body the weight will drop you just have to patient and know what your aiming towards: a healthy life!

You're not being patient enough. You mistreated your body for months, its going to take time for it to trust you again. I know- I'm an expert at this by now. I was bulimic & a yo-yo dieter for most of my life- In January I said enough was enough and through a LOT of trial & error I realised I'd totally screwed my metabolism- so now I'm trying to fix that. Then I can lose the weight.

I ate maintenence for 4-5mths, then (stupidly!) restricted back to 1300cals. I lost 2lbs the first week, and NOTHING for 6-7wks after that. I saw a nutritionist/dietician who advised me to eat my BMR consistently for at least 3mths, and hopefully that'll help me start shifting the excess. I'm only on my 2nd week of doing this, but my (2-3lb!) daily fluctuations have settled, and I feel much better now I have a target & time frame to work to. I didn't gain the weight in a few months, so it'll take longer to lose, but as long as I do eventually lose (& lose by doing it the 'right' way!) I don't care how long it takes.

I have a daily deficit of at least 615cals, so 'should' be dropping the lbs too- but am not so far. Its not an exact science, and everyones 'magic' trick will be different.

Sometimes you have to check your digestive system..if you don't poop normal which is 2-3 times a day or every time you eat , you should have a bowel movement...you should clean your colon..you can clean it with many ways but eating fiber everyday helps alot..don't get fustrated..maybe you eat too many fats or sugars...always balance your diet with al the foods..eating breakfast can help also...It takes time and dont give up...I did it and I was always fat...the first year I lost 45 lbs just changing small habits...no more cokes nor diet cokes...lots of water, fish of all kinds (limit shrimp cuz it has too much fat) whole grains, milk products are good, and all the food on the food pyramid, and I walked 30 minutes everyday..but if you are looking to loose weight fast its not gonna happen..slow is better and sometimes it feel like nothings happening but your body is getting healthy..it took me to loose weight two years now and i lost total of 60+lbs...DONT GIVE UP..GOOD LUCK!

I'm going to go with overestimating your exercise and underestimating the amount of calories that you are eating.  I personally believe that "starvation mode" is a myth.  How do you count your calories?  Do you measure/weigh everything?  Do you use "generic" items for items that you aren't sure of the calorie count?  How do you know how many calories you burn each day?  Are you using a HRM?  What sources are you using?  At 195, you should be losing some weight.  1700/1500 may be close to maintenance for you and a little inaccuracy could bring you to maintenance each day.

Sorry- but WHAT? A 'Normal' bowel movement is not 2-3 times a DAY?? Or even everytime you eat?! When I was bulimic I only 'went' every 7-8 DAYS! Now I know that that was because of the lack of food in my system, but even now, when I'm eating clean & well, I go once every 1-2 days or so. If you're 'cleansing' your colon because you don't go 2-3 times a day you're in serious danger of doing yourself damage. 'Normal' regarding bowel movements vary wildly for different people.

I do agree with fallingstar- maybe re-double your efforts in logging- double-check weights & cal content for a while? Maybe complacency has set in a little and 'guesstimating' cals/weights has crept back in (I've done it too) Try it for a week or two and see what happens?

I hope you have decided to stick with this nad not give up.

Be patient with yourself and your body's reaction time.

Remember that health and fitness is the most important goal - and even if the scale NEVER moves again - which is highly unlikely - sticking with this plan will keep your body balanced and healthy.

Follow all the behavioral steps nad the scale will eventually do what you want it to do.

i've been losing weight at a snail's pace for over 5 years (90+ pounds lost ... but about 40-50 more to go!) and its very discouraging sometimes.  And sometime we make mistakes, make bad choices, and fall off the wagon a bit.

BUT NEVER GIVE UP.

You can do this!  you can live a healthy life and have a healthy relationship with food!

All my best to you .....

Nancy

Don't allow yourself to stay discouraged.  Here's an option for you, if you haven't tried it.  Try to eat several small meals throughout the day.  It's sort of like stoking a furnace.  Using the food as wood to keep the fire burning, your metabolism being the fire.  Maybe try eating every 2 to 2 1/2 hours if you can.  You may want to keep in mind these are small meals just to keep your metabolism stoked.  Dont compromise on your calorie intake though.  Also, keep in mind that your meals should include a protein, carbohydrate balance. Also include fiber in your diet, and of course plenty of water.  That could also be an issue, make sure to drink plenty of clear water daily.  I hope this helps, and keep us posted.  You'll be fine, we've all been there :-)

It took me about 3 weeks to finally see the scale start moving.  It takes a lot of dedication.

But the most important thing to remember is, do this because you want to be healthy not just for cosmetic purposes of loosing weight.  If you think that way, then you'll eventually start to see results.

Also rememebr to weigh and measure everything, at least until you get a real idea of portions.  It can be easy for all of us to over or under-estimate.

Normal bowel movement is MOST DEFINITELY NOT 2-3 TIMES per day.  Some go more often, but once every 1-3 days is just fine.  Please do not harm yourself by taking so-called "bowel cleansers," enemas, softeners or laxatives, etc. to force yourself to go more often than that.  I do not pretend to be the expert; for details please go to the following web site right here on about.com...

Ya 2 - 3 times a day sounds more like an issue of ... not moving it all out right the first time.

Everyone is different however. Personally, I don't weight myself unless I've had a nice good #2.

Fiber, Water, many small meals a day .. You'll be fine. Don't get discouraged!!!!

I agree with most of the above, I think that our goal should be to change to healthy eating and portion control + exercise daily or close to it + water.  I think that most of are stuck in that old diet thinking.  Fast fast fast and then put it back on and start again.

I have been stuck for several weeks and i understand being discouraged, I weigh more than you do.  I just know that sticking with a healthy program will be good for all around health and each day week month, I will be on the right road to a better and yes, better looking me.

As far as the pooping info, thanks robertnoel, I think...LOL

Frozendmr hang in there with us, we need you and you will get support from us!

I wish i could reply directly to all of you... but thank you. it really brightened my day to see allyour answers.. this is such a great program and the support is wondeful..

Thank you again, guys, and i hope in the future i can  of the same importance to you!

It is called a plateau,  your body is going to go through periods when the scale does not move. When that happens you need to change it up, do something different so that it moves. Change something in  your diet or you exercise regime. Also sometimes it could be water retention, bloating. There are so many reasons, I suggest you do more research and do something about it!
