I've done so well with my weight loss. I even lost through the holidays. I have not diverted from my plan at all and somehow I went up 4 lbs in three days. What?! I was so proud of myself. I was feeling so good. Please tell me not to go and eat the chocolate syrup.

Don't fret too much, the weight gain could be for a lot of reasons, it is pretty hard to gain 4 pounds in 3 days, remember a pound is 3500 calories.  Did you eat something that has a lot of salt in it?? have you had a lot more fluid to drink than usual??? Did you weigh yourself differently than you usually do??? DONT EAT THE CHOCOLATE SYRUP!!!! your doing great!!!!
Don't do it!  It is so incredibly frustrating to be on top of the world and stickin to your plan and then the dispair that sets in when you get on the scale to find you have gained.  It is like a swift kick in the stomach.  Remember those days you woke up and felt a little different... tomorrow morning, you will wake up and feel proud that you overcame the sadness and fought the call of chocolate.  Enticing as that sounds, it won't taste nearly as good as overcoming temptation will feel.

I'm sending you good thoughts and hugs,
Steph
Don't go eat the chocolate. If you've eaten within your calories, you KNOW that you didn't gain 4 lbs of fat. Take a few deep breaths and try to figure out what has changed in the last week. Have you had more sodium? worked out more? is it that time of the month? There are SO many things it could be, just take a few deep breaths. I'm sure it'll go back down in a matter of days.
what THEY said. *points up to other posts in the thread*

and uh, stay far, far away from the chocolate syrup. it's EVIL.
Dont eat the chocolate.  It will only make you feel worse when you weigh again.  Like everyone else has said.  It's probably just water weight.  Give it a few days, keep up the good work and weigh yourself later.
Thank you guys so much. I didn't go for the chocolate syrup, but I did make me a cup of black chocolate tea (yes, it's real and good for you!)
I haven't eaten more sodium. In fact my calories, fat, sodium, and cholesterol have all been the same. I'm hoping to blame it on more of the water I have been drinking. I will give it a few days though :)

lots of hugs!!!
Just keep up the good work. Maybe it's water weight? Just try to ignore it and keep on going. Don't end up like me (I've given up the past 2 days of gaining weight back) I'm probably going to add more pounds by tomorrow because of the way I ate today. It doesn't matter cause I'm going to go to the gym tomorrow and shed some weight off! Come get motivated with me! ^^
Be prepared for sudden, unexplained fluctuations in weight and DON'T GIVE UP.  The most shocking experience I ever had was seeing a 9 pound gain over one weekend.  It disappeared in 3 days and then I lost another pound.  I have no explanation except for retaining fluid from too much salty food, but I didn't think my sodium was that high.  The important thing is DON'T GIVE UP!
where do you get choc. tea?  please

I feel a bit unwell today - getting the cold everyone else has I think - just woke up from a long sleep midday - and wanted chocolate.

However, have made a low calorie hot chocl drink, by 'Options".  It satisfies the choc. craving that is only usually satisfied by the good dark stuff.  However, watch the directions - says three teaspoons, but two mean level teaspoons make up the 11g which is 40 calories, and makes a good mug of hot chocolate.   I will now be very careful to weigh and not guess.

DONT GIVE UP -  You will feel more positive once the scales move down a pound again - how often are you standing on them - I can fluctuate by 5lb a day quite easily and it can be depressing - only fluid retention, or a food you dont tolerate too well.  Drink more.
Glad you made it through without resorting to chocolate.  And as Clairelaine said, there will be fluctuations that don't make sense.  I was 134 before Christmas and then in these past two weeks, have gone up to 139...stayed there for a couple of days, then down to 133.8 and now today I'm 134.2 ... go figure.  Hang in there!

And definitely clue us in as to where to get chocolate tea ... sounds great.
Lilfaerywingz - your profile says you are trying to get you cholestrol under control, hurray! Me too.

But that feeds into my point - you can't judge your success by the scale alone! Don't let that discourage you.

I like to focus on other things, like - do I sleep better at night? Are my clothes more comfortable? Do I have more energy during the day? Do I have more stamina walking/taking stairs? Has anyone said anything nice to me lately? Am I less moody? Have I found any new, good foods that are healthy for me? Can I lift more weight than when I started? Does getting healthy make me feel encourage to try other new things? Is my skin improving? Am I more flexible? Am I enjoying the encouragement from others on calorie-count?

But the scale - that's just a number. It doesn't really, accurately, or fully describe the positive *changes* that we am seeing. It doesn't even tell you much about how much fat you've lost!!

Focus. Chocolate syrup is a false friend, and the scale is just its enabler.
oh, yeah - ascotlady - about chocolate tea.

I totally recommend looking carefully through the tea section at your local grocery store. There are lots of tasty, 'flavored' black teas that really kick-butt.

One of my favorites I've found - vanilla caramel. I had my doubts when I first saw it, but it smells like cake. The smell alone is enough to make me feel like I'm indulging in comfort food.

They aren't sweet, but they smell so sugary you almost forget.
Vanilla Caramel tea... oh lord, that sounds delish!
Not even kidding; if you like tea, you *have* to try it.  It feels so thick and rich compared to other teas. (and still only tea-calories!)

Best. tea. ever.

And I don't usually like black tea.
I inflate like a Thanksgiving Day parade balloon right before my period. It stinks, but I've resigned myself to it. Hydrate well, drink green tea, and this too shall pass. :)
I get all my tea (loose leaf) from dragonwater.com. They have incredible teas for good prices!

I did go back on the scale today (bad I know) and it went back down 3 lbs again. haha! sooo I will just have to bear with myself and emotions.

I'm adding you guys to my friends :) Hope you don't mind!!!!
Weighing yourself again is not bad, as long as you keep in mind your weight can vary throughout the day. And that what your scale says doesn't define how well you're doing.

[ I'm always happy to have friends. (: ]
DON'T GIVE IN!!! I'm an old fart of 46 and mother of six kids and just started the week before Christmas.  THe other day I got on the scales and had gained two pounds - AAAGGHHH!!!  But realized that it was probably around the time I might have been having my cycle but it is hard to tell at me age since I'm not real regular anymore and starting menopause.  But three days later I had lost THREE pounds and realized it was that time of the month.  I just read somewhere that even if you are cutting some calories out and exercising and doing better than before then you ARE DOING BETTER!!!  I try not to get depressed when I go up a pound of two (only lost 7 so far in three weeks) but try to remember that I am eating MUCH better (cut out sweets except for power bars) and am walking (treadmill) for exercise for the first time in my life and I FEEL SO MUCH better and have so much more energy (which I need with six kids ages 14,12,10,9,8,5).  HANG IN THERE!!!!
