I'm doing a "salt cleanse" tomorrow morning... wanna be my buddy?
Okay, so, I'm thinking this is going to get a lot of crazy responses, but I'm posting it anyways ![]()
There's this thing called a 'salt cleanse', aka makes you **** your brains out, but naturally instead of using laxatives. Well, I guess the salt IS a laxative. Anywho.. you drinking two tablespoons of uniodized salt mixed into a quart of warm water. Yeah, gross I know. Then, around an hour later (or less), you start having bowel movements. The only reason I'm doing it is that for the past few days I've felt a little, uh, stuffed up, if ya know what I mean. Hah. You're supposed to drink some like laxative tea or something the night before to help 'loosen stuff up' before the expulsion (which comes after drinking the salt the next morning). I think I'm going to skip that part though, unless I can find laxative tea at Harris Teeter. But seriously, I've never seen any tea labeled 'laxative tea' before (LOL) so I don't know, we'll see!
You're supposed to stop eating at around 10pm the night before, then drink the salt on an empty stomach the next morning. You should also not be busy for the next 2 hours after you drink it, because that probably wouldn't be fun with all the bowel movements and whatnot. Anyways, I've never done this before so I was wondering if anyone wanted to join in? And we could like check on each other's progress? If not, I'm doin it anyways! ![]()
Really?? No one????
I actually tried that about a month ago. It was part of the whole "Beyonce Dreamgirls" diet. Every morning for two weeks you drink 32 oz of warm water with two teaspoons of sea salt, then drink a 1/2 a gallon (or so) of a concoction including water, cayenne pepper, maple syrup, and lemons. I made the whole thing and was all ready to start it, but when I went to drink the salt water in the morning I almost gagged. It was the most disgusting taste I have ever experienced voluntarily. I figured I'd skip that step in the "diet" and move onto living on this mixture for the next two weeks... Do you know what it tastes like to drink cayenne pepper? Just what it sounds like... I ended up dumping it all down the drain and decided to eat raw veggies and fruits and lean protein, go to the gym, drink a lot of water and lost weight that way. I started this last Monday and so far I have lost about four pounds (I'm 5'1'' & 142.6 lbs).
Let me know how it goes... I'd rather just take a laxative to be honest ;)
I don't have any experience or knowledge of a "salt cleanse" but it strikes me as at least potentially dangerous -- there is a reason that you don't drink sea water, right? It dehydrates you.
If you want to look at alternative remedies for constipation - here is a link from about.com
I have swished my mouth with warm salt water before, when I had a problem with a tooth, and it IS nasty - I can't imagine anyone drinking a QUART of salt water on purpose.
Reminds me of a funny story.
Several, several, several years back (pre-hubby), I had a serious relationship with a guy. He was in our neighborhood one day and stopped by to say hello. I wasn't home, but he visited with my parents, had some tea, etc. anyhow. They really liked him.
Unbeknownst to anyone involved, my mom had accidentally bought some "tea". She brewed and served it. A couple of hours later, everyone involved was running to the toilet. That's how they spent the rest of the day! Of course my mom thought she'd given everyone food poisoning somehow and felt horrible about it. Next time she made the "tea", she read the package more closely and realised what had caused the sickness. The box was promptly thrown out.

AHAHAHHAHA!!!! PRICELESS!! you just made my night. lol.
about the salt thing, it's part of the "master cleanse, lemonade diet..." however you want to say it. sure, the salt drink works. yeah, it works...
it makes your stomach expand and hurt soo much, especially if you aren't used to drinking that much water in a short amount of time. it's not good to drink a liter of warm water very quickly, but if that doesn't stop you...the second or third time i did it, i threw all of it back up. it just fills up your stomach so much, and it's wayyy too disgusting. if you have the stomach for it, go for it. it does indeed work, but i've never tried it without smooth move (tea laxative).
Yeah, I have to agree with Jill. I tried a water fast once way back when, and it involved the same salt water solution. I tell you what, I couldn't stomach it....at all! I took a few chugs, and felt nauseous immediately. Needless to say, I didn't continue with the salt water part of my fast.
Let me know, though, you might have a higher tolerance for that kind of stuff. I saw a guy do this water fast through vlogs and he would make and drink the salt water on camera....he would make a face, but he managed to do it. <shrug>
I LOVE salt water. Nice warm...maybe a little hot. Seriously. If I didnt already have some medical stuff going on I would do this in a second. Only I would not be doing it for the crapping qualities. Nope, just because I love salt water so much.
I know you think I am kidding....Im not. People actually gag drinking this???? Wow....no accounting for taste. :)

Maybe because it's 5am, but I don't get it, what was the 'tea'? :
Yeah so I decided to get the Smooth Move tea and drink that the night before THEN do the salt thing. I heard the salt cleanse isn't that bad.. but it's HELL if you don't 'loosen things up' with the tea first! Apparently, the reason people feel so bloated and crappy (no pun intended, haha) is when the mixture doesn't make it through because your intestines are so blocked up it can't get through. So.... I'm unblocking/softening things up first. I'm getting the tea today from GNC, drinking it tomorrow night then doing the salt cleanse Thursday morning (because I don't have classes on Thursday, so I can spend as much time in the bathroom as I need to, haha)

I would be careful with the salt. I am going to be doing a gallbladder/liver cleanse in a few weeks here, and it does require tablespoons of epsom salt, but there are clear warnings of why you should not do things like this without professional supervision. You can get fatal hypermagnesemia. If you have high blood pressure or it runs in your family, please please consult a physician.

So you can keep track of what you eat - which enables you to analyze your foods and receive the following:
