i'm an eating monster the week before my period. anyone else?

im starting my period in like 3 or 4 days and i cant stop EATING! especially cereal. cereal is always my big craving food but i have to eat it like every meal today cause i keep thinking about it. and this natures promise cheesy popcorn stuff.. ive eaten like the whole bag lol.

im wanting alpha bits hardcore. and p.s. if you eat rice krispies with vanilla soymilk it tastes like a giant rice krispies treat. its amazing.

anyone else weird with the cravings during this time?

I was just talking about this with a couple of dieting/workout fanatics like myself about this very topic. Unfortunately for me since I have joined the gym I have had a battle maintaining my monthly... but before it disappeared I had the same problem. One piece of advice I guess is: DON'T FIGHT IT! lol... I totally restrict myself and while a ton of my girlfriends envy my committment to health and weight loss it has ultimately f****ed me over. I always undershoot my cal goals and I have come to realize that within moderation, it's totally OK to have that bowl of cereal... the two handfuls of cheese its... the 1/2 jar of PB. If your body is craving it, then give in within reason. Especially if you are opting for the healthiest of options... ex: you want cereal so you eat a whole bowl of Kashi GoLean rather than a whole bowl of Lucky Charms (bleck!).

Don't feel bad... I think you are doing great! And besides, your bod is just prepping for doing what it needs to do... you beat it up all month dieting and being active, let loose Wink

I am right there with you... I am supposed to start Monday and I am STARVING today!!! I have been fighting it by logging everything and carefully weighing everything out... also, I am going to make sure to work out this evening... I tend to better with eating when I know I have to work out later... :-)

Edit: I forgot to say... protein helps me out alot too! String cheese, pistachios, etc. all help me feel less hungry!

gabby, i so totally hear you ... ugh!  I don't know if it is really "PMS"/"TTOM", but, I have had major hunger and I do not fight it, try to work with it. I go from eating empty cals (cupcake, cookies, nut bread, wheat bread and butter to popcorn). My goal is to stop with the popcorn, alas, carbs keep calling me !!!!!!!Just, thank gosh I am not alone; I thought I was going loopey with what I have been eating.  I am maintaining my weight and it wasn't until recently, I have gotten the carb cravings like mad crazy !!!  Oh, proteins alone leave me hungry (I can eat endless nuts and be hungry an hour later); can't eat carbs alone (apple makes me hungry w/in an hour so I have protein w/ fruit).  Interesting and this seems to happen more so with my "PMS"/"TTOM" -go figure!  Do you or anyone else find protein and carbs together(like fruit and cheese) work best? Not just one or the other?

I had a rough week too.  I had been doing well for a while and all I wanted this week was crunchy sweet cereal.  I went overboard with frosted flakes and frosted mini wheats.  There are more frosted mini wheats in the cabinet and they are calling my name right now.

you're totally right about just giving in..moderately. i learned this lesson a fwe days ago, when i really wanted a bowl of cereal for dinner, but since i had already had one that day, i didn't let myself, and i had something more balanced instead - and then later that night i gave in anyway and had 3 bowls! whereas if i had just let myself have it in the first place i probably would have satisfied the craving.

 yes ma'am! when i know i wont be able to eat for several hours, i always always go for peanut butter and sugar free jelly on whole wheat. something about the carb/protein combo.

 i say go for it. today all i could think about was alpha bits, so i went out and got some and had a generous bowl for lunch.. and i didn't go overboard the rest of the day. even though that's like more sugar than youre supposed to eat in a day in one sitting.. im trying to give myself some slack during this time. i definitely find that if i just give in to the craving a LITTLE bit, im less likely to go nuts on some all out binge later.
