I've been drinking a lot more diet soda and calorie-free drinks recently (I needed something sweet with no or next to no calories!) But I've noticed that since then I've had this terrible headache. Funnything is it only huirts when I look up... But anyway, I've had this headache and I've been so irratable and anxious lately. I think the aspartame is to blame.. What do you think?
Caffiene can make you irritable and anxious as well.
I thought of that too, but I've been drinkinf caffiene-free :/
My husband always told me that diet drinks can make you gain or not lose wait because it tricks your body. When I tried to quit drinking it I would drink coke instead to wean me off of the diet coke and I got a horrible headache for about three days. I definately think the aspertame can affect some people like that. I can go without caffine and not have near as much trouble
I was wondering if your soda was caffeine free. :) Guess you can try cutting it out of your diet and see how it goes. I've only read that aspartame can cause headaches. Never happened to me, but I only have it very occasionally when I have Crystal Light.
I think cutting out diet sodas/beverages is a brilliant idea personally. I think you oughta give it a try, but it keep in mind you might not see the differences overnight. I for one am thrilled I finally cut it out about 3 years ago & haven't wavered since then.
My name is Sharon and I am a Coke-a-holic.
Before beginning my weight loss adventure, I drank about 2 liters of real coke a day. Caffiene, sugar and all. I have not had a Coke since 9-11-06. At first I drank a diet Coke a day but I noticed my face began to break out( and I am well beyond those years of troublesome acne) I did not experience headaches but the facial stuff was enough to make me give up diet drinks along with the regular ones.
My drink of choice these days is plain ole water. I drink a half gallon a day. If I have a real need for a sweet or flavorful drink I drink Crystal Light peach tea or raspberry ice.

Anything with artifical sweetner is bad for your body. the body doesn't know how to process it and messes everything up, and all kinds of side effects. Look up artifical sweetners online. They can also cause cravings.
I gave up soda on Saturday. I went from full strength/non diet to diet to caffeine free diet to no soda because the phosphoric acid is not good on our bones. It leeches the calcium out of bones, and I need all of my calcium.
YES please do give up soda! Not just for the caffeine, but for the sake of your bones! Soda, especially diet soda, is horrible for your bones and leads to osteoperosis. I just flat out don't drink soda anymore. I drink Izze instead, it's a carbonated fruit juice with no added sugars-- all fruit juice-- and it's delicious. I also love that it doesn't leave in my mouth that sticky, icky feeling that soda leaves.
Artificial sweetener gives me a really headache...even a tiny bit. Aspartame. Yuck.
Not so sure about sucralose...I think I've had it a few times without realizing it. (in chewing gum and mints) I don't purposely ingest any artificial sweetener.
I've just cut WAY back on the regular soda...I used to drink anywhere from 2-4 a day. Now I have less than half of a regular coke everyday. I'd rather have a LITTLE of the regular stuff than drink an entire 6-pack of the "diet" crap. :)

I do not go near any kind of Coke...( I from The south Coke means Dp, Coke, Diet Coke, root beer, sprite all that.
I drink tea and Green Tea and water.

I have never been a big soda or caffeine drinker but I know my mother complained of awful headaches when she would try to give up cafinated coffee and she would complain of headaches if she had aspartame. Seems like either one could be the culprit and that the other posters have some ideas for alternatives. Best wishes. :-D
YAY! good for you, indiana. diet soda is evil in a can!
I am also giving up diet soda. I made the switch from regular to diet years ago when my dad was diagnosed with Type II Diabetes, but I am disturbed by recent reports of unacceptable benzene in diet drinks containing Vitamin C (ascorbic acid) and either sodium or potassium benzoates. This was the impetus to do something I should have done a long time ago - give up the diet drinks. I still have my coffee or tea though.
Congratulations! I am anti aspertame also. It makes me feel lightheaded and gross. I think it affects some people more than others.
I gave up diet and regular soda 5 years ago now and it feels great! It feels good to get the carbonation out of your body. I heard that it can take about 2 weeks for the carbination to leave your body, so to say, and then after that your stomach looks and feels less bloated.

I've been off of soda for 9 days now. Keeping hydrated along with some advil helps curb the headaches. I gained 4 lbs immediately, probably because I was so dehydrated from drinking so much diet soda!! Those few lbs are starting to come off now that my body is adjusting to getting lots of water... it's much happier!
i've just started giving up drinking sodas. i usually drink one can a day, but last i week i only drank one can. c",) now i'm aiming to totally go without it. i still drink coffee everyday, with 1 tsp sugar and 1 tsp non-dairy creamer. is this ok, or is it just the same as drinking the sodas?
I, too am giving up Diet Coke... I got hypnotized to lose weight last night, and one of the things I emphasized that I want to quit is diet coke.. I still haven't finished my first one for the day, and I'm usually up to #3 by now!! It tastes like crap. And i've been drinking it my whole life!!
I drink diet pepsi but have reduced my intake. At one time I was a very heavy pepsi drinker, and if I had alot, I would get a really bad headache from the artificial sweetner(I think). Had to drink tons of it to get the headache, though.
You might try dringking more water. You could be dehydrated, sodas have a tendency to do that to people. I like to put a fresh lime in my water and have it in the fridge nice and cold. Other citrus fruits work as well.
