I'm glad I'm fat and losing weight, and here's why.. :)

You know, I was thinking that instead of asking "Why did I get fat?" or "Why am I fat?", I'm going to start a nice positive thinking topic listing the reasons why it's nice to be 'fat' AND losing weight, instead of being 'normal'.

1) You know those douchebags/bitc*es who always call out names to overweight people? I KNOW I won't be like them, because I know how it feels to be overweight.

2) When you lose weight, people compliments you. If you continuesly lose weight for a year, bit by bit, people compliment you for A WHOLE YEAR!

3) You have a perfectly good reason to get a whole new wardrobe when you lose weight.

4) Because you're eating less, you find that you actually have extra money left over every week/month!

5) You find that your health and stamina is improving week by week! (Incidentally, I can now do 15 push-ups in a row and 25 sit ups in a row! It's awesome!)

6) When people hug you, you never have to worry about 'positioning' yourself so your bones don't poke the other person (actual confession from a friend).

Here's all I can think of right now, feel free to add more!

For a long while, I'd eat whatever I wanted and not gain weight. Then when I did, I realized I  have to take care of my body! So I guess one thing I'm glad it gave me is the realization that I have to take care of my body and being willing to do it!

this is so inspiring! :)

I love reason #2.  Never thought of it that way, but it's true.

I'm always trying to improve myself in some way or another. If I was already at my goal weight and had the perfect figure, I could not work on improving my body, which I find so much excitement and satisfaction in doing! Workouts would be boring with no clear-cut goal.

Amen to everything you said!

I like having such a cool goal...it makes me feel like a super hero when I lose!

Losing weight has given me the opportunity to suceed at SOMETHING.  I never went to college and got married pretty young.  Perviously, getting the bills paid on time was a sucess.  But now I have a lot of sucesses I celebrate every day.

I suceeded in keeping to my calorie goals.

I suceeded in taking my walk even though I really didnt want to.

I am suceeding in learning new body skills

I am suceeding in slowly changing the office culture to be more healthy (seriously)

Its great!

Yeah. Even if I don't like being overweight, I've learned a lot from the experience.

It taught me that avoiding my feelings by indulging in something is never the answer. As weird as it is, losing weight has made me a lot more assertive. Before I'd just go with the flow, because I didn't want to "deal with it", but since I've started my weight loss journey I've had to stick up for myself & the things I want to accomplish, and deal with my emotions head on instead of avoiding it all together.

It taught me what "healthy" really is.. IE, exercising on a daily basis and eating foods that are satisfying and nutritious. If I was naturally skinny, I'd probably be on the computer 24/7 and loading up on poptarts everyday. XD

And you know, the suceeding thing built up some confidence for me, and like you, I don't think I'll ever be able to be a total a-hole to someone I don't know because of their looks, because I've been there before. :3

That's a good point! I'm going to add it in :)

8) This 'forces' me to educate myself more about what being healthy really is, and I've find that I know way more about nutrition than I've ever before.

9) Evaluates and redirects my emotions from eating to other channels, makes me more open to new things and ideas.

and a new one

10) By eliminating all highly processed and refined foods, such as high fructose corn syrup (high GI foods), I'm broke the vicious cycle of being hungry and snacking every hour!

bump for more inspiration :)

What I enjoyed about wanting to lose weight is exercising. I have horrible mood swings and I get sad/angry for no reason. I make myself miserable. Working out consistently has helped my mood stay more balanced and if I am particularly miserable a good run helps a lot. I just feel better.

Edit: Another thing that I've enjoyed because of my diet is discovering new foods and creative ways to use them. Things like acorn squash, spaghetti squash, quinoa, chard, new types of mushrooms, etc. and learning how to make my own jams and applesauce. Also, I'm learning how to use old standbys like chicken and broccoli more creatively whether it be new cooking techniques (love my new wok) or recipe experimentation. I really enjoy experiencing food (buying it, prepping it, cooking it, plating it) now, as opposed to just the act of eating it.

Ditto, terri. Though this is something I'm still learning. (In other words, when I'm sad, I should go for the run FIRST and refrain from going into the kitchen...)

Today was a bad day. And my eating was horrid. Quite frankly, I had a binge. BUT... I did at least go out for my c25k jog (Still on week 1) and got ALL THE WAY THROUGH IT WITHOUT FALTERING!! I was literally GRINNING by the end of my set!

So now I have a new "goal" in that I'm going to try and go excercise BEFORE eating stupid things. If I still want the pie when I come back, I'll have it, but something tells me it'll be easier to ignore if I'm "high" from the jog!

Akela,

I have to do the same thing, no dinner until after my run! However, if you like to cook vigorously (chop veggies in a sick OCD kind of way, use a whisk or spoon instead of the electric mixer, knead dough yourself, hand mash potatoes, etc) doing cooking prep work burns 140-200 calories an hour. I don't include that in my calorie count, though, because I am certain I eat twice that in calories "testing" my food.
