I'm interested in hearing other's strange food oddities and food rituals :-)

So we all have strange food habits and enjoy odd combinations of food. Feel free to share your food and eating oddities that are just normal habits in your life!

Let's see I like to refer to the term "food baby" when I've over eaten and am bloated and very full lol. I read the term used in OK Magazine once and died laughing and now I'm in love with the phrase! Also I love to put diet swiss miss on top of my oatmeal lol and also for a snack I like to put sugar free strawberry jam on top of a wedge of light l.c cheese and dip pretzels in it. Also I make egg salad sandwiches but uses steamed tofu instead of eggs or sometimes I'll used hard boiled egg whites but the tofu is more fun and odd :-). Also I put Frank's red hot on almost everything I consume from scrambled egg whites to taking reduced fat townhouse crackers and spreading light l.c cheese on it and then top it with hot sauce. Good snack I'm telling ya!!! I'm interested to hear others oddities that actually would turn out not so odd :-)

I just thought of more things I do/eat!!

I have to eat things like nuts pretzels or crackers in even numbers and I have to eat them little bites at a time. I can't just pop a whole almond in my mouth I bite it lol. I terrified by white condiments with the exception of blue cheese dressing. I hate ranch and always have. If the guy across the hall cooks bacon I can always smell it heavily in my kitchen, so when he does I have to stay out of the kitchen until the smell dissipates or I'll want to die. I hate the smell of bacon! I like sugar free chocolate syrup on oatmeal lol. If I'm eating a double chocolate or chocolate vanilla pudding cup I have to eat it by layers. Lol Thank you guys for posting on here it's so interesting to see what others do when it comes to food!

Wow, these are pretty good!

I have an irrational fear of soggy bread. Just seeing it (like in bread pudding or French onion soup) will make me gag. Crackers in soup seem like torture.

If I eat those little crunchy pretzels, I will usually try to eat them into specific shapes, like letters to spell out words.

I put either sriracha (Vietnamese hot sauce), garlic, or both in just about everything I cook.

The smell of microwave popcorn disgusts me.

when making sandwiches, i always cut them into triangles, never squares. Same with toast with jam, pb etc, but then i cut the halves into half, making 4 triangle quarters.

I slice bananas, and dont eat the ends.

I use only a tiny bit of milk, and tilt my cereal bowl towards me, so it drains away from the cereal, then eat the cereal closest to the milk first, actively pushing back the cereal from falling into the milk. Yeeah i really really don't like soggy cereal:)

i sometimes toast bead until it's crisp, them put pasta sauce on it, then put it back in the toaster oven (on a tray so the bottom won't burn), then after put pepper on it. I guess it's not that gross, pizza is bead-y, with tomato-y sauce too..

oh i also don't bite granola bars, i always rip pieces off.

thought of another, if i'm eating a healthy snack in from of my computer, i'll usually take 2 minutes to google it online, and read why it's good for you, even though i KNOW it is! I guess it makes me feel good, and reinforces healthy eating. (I also occasionally do this if i avoid say a fast food lunch during the day. i'll go look up the poor nutritional value of what i might have eaten. Of course, if i'm eating something bad in front of the computer, i never look it up:P)

  • I must have everything in bite sized pieces
  • At dinner I eat my veggies first
  • I like to dip things into each other. Like 1 piece of pasta dipped into honey mustard dressing. Or 3 carrots chunks dipped into " " "
  • I don't mix my food unless it is oatmeal or cottage cheese
  • I eat with a small spoon and small fork. Always. (unless it's finger food...like pasta (not spaghetti though))

- When eating fruit flavored candies (skittles etc.) I always skip yellow and green cause when I was little they were the "yucky" flavors, however to make up for that I only eat yellow and green m&m's and none of the other colors

- When eating I need to leave something on the plate, even if it's a bites worth of a sandwhich, I never have had a totally clear plate.

- I'm left handed however when I eat deserts or anything sweet I use my right hand

- I know this was said before but I always leave the best tasting thing to eat last, I take a little sample of everything and then eat in order from least tasty to most tasty

strange food rituals?!? gosh okay, lets see... ahh i'll just list those i am displaying at present, yes? okay.

- set times for food consumption. i organise eating times the night before, if i happen to 'miss' a certain time i do not eat that meal. and 'dinner' is never later than six - that is a definite regardless of circumstance.

- eating company. the people around me have to be clean and tidy eaters - nothing off-putting. now i am somewhat 'eating normally' again; all food i do actually consume has to be in the company of someone else [usually family] as otherwise i become paranoid and think i haven't eaten anything at all. at my most unhealthy i was taking pictures of what i ate during the day and showing people so i could justify my 'sanity'. which is ironic considering the nature of this act LOL. so yeah, at the moment i find it too frightening and surreal to eat alone.

- all focus must be on the food. no thinking of anything else. if i cannot control what i eat, i control how 'i look' doing it. i am trying to stop this, like, lately i have been putting the tv on and watching and eating at the same time.

- and then all my supposed 'weird' food combinations. i won't go into it. though now i am deemed healthy 'physically', i am trying to work on my 'OCD issues' - which is hard you know, cause they were present before ED.

Hm, let's see...

1. I have to "suck" out the flavor of granola bars, cereal, cookies, and most carbs. I just pop them in my mouth and let it disintegrate ;)

2. I always have to eat almonds by putting them between my front two teeth and breaking them evenly in half.

3. If I'm drinking something (hot or cold), I drink it overly quickly. I'll drink a whole cup of coffee in a matter of minutes without break. I guess I just don't like to let it sit?!

4. When I eat large carrots, I eat around that lighter middle part so that it looks like a long needle.

5. I definately pull apart my sandwiches.

6. I also cut up bananas into pieces and eat them with the knife I cut it with.

7. I'll snack on plain iceberg lettuce if I'm bored.

8. I have to measure everything I eat. I'm always eating out of measuring cups, and I'm sure I always will.

9. I wake up at 5am, eat breakfast, go back to sleep until 7, and then eat lunch around 11. I also eat supper ridiculously early, and don't eat again until the morning.

10. I'm awful for stealing "tastes" of other people's food. I always just want one bite of what everyone else is having. It drives my sister and parents crazy!

11. My favourite meal in the world is taking a low-cal WW pita, topping it with cold cottage cheese and a tablespoon of full fruit jam, mashing it all together, and then eating the pita, and afterwards the cc. <3

There are more, I'm sure! Now I'm going to notice! Hehe!

Oh me too! I get told off by my bf for drinking too quickly, especially when we're out drinking in bars- I think he gets annoyed that he has to keep buying me drinks as I get through them so quick! I can't just leave a full glass sitting there, I'm always downing it. And when I have hot chocolate (the only hot drink I'll ever have) it doesn't even touch the table surface, I just keep sipping until it's gone! haha.

I'm quite strange for food habits. I hate melted cheese, hate hate hate. I don't eat pizza; if I do have to eat it, the cheese has to be either picked off or burnt till it's black. Then i'll eat it! I love solid cheese though. But melted? No thanks!

Like bringbackbeats, I also have set eating times. If the time is later than when I'd usually eat, I just think 'what's the point?' I hate it when I eat out at restaurants and my friends book the table for 8. Why!!! It takes an hour to bring the food out anyway... And by that time my hunger has passed and I don't want to eat dinner so late. I always eat between half 5 and 6.

I have salad with almosy every meal, and the lettuce MUST be sgredded into tiny pieces. My housemates think I'm strange, as I stad there shredding every piece! I cant stand big leafs of lettuce when I eat. I have a bean obsession, I either eat them cold out the tin or I have them cold in a tortilla wrap with ketchup! Ketchup on toast is also yummy.

I always prepare my food into sections on the plate, and place the plate down in a way that the food boundaries are horizontal-hmm that doesn't make sense but I don't know how to describe it in words. I also save the best bits of food till last, i like to leave a bit of each food and then shove it all on my fork as my last mouthful! I eat the not so yummy stuff 1st to get it out the way. I have lots of other weird rituals and certain foods that I won't eat, but I thik i've said enough for now!Laughing

On the rare occassion I eat "Smart Food" popcorn, I will eat each kernel in bites.

I bite the chocolate coating off of peanut/almond/PB m&ms and eat it first.

I could eat broccoli and home made cheese sauce/cauliflower and home made cheese sauce every night.
