I'm joining a gym with my mom...
I'm too much of a wuss to go to the gym by myself (at least for the first month or so) and I won't work out at school because there's too many people I know. So yesterday we went and checked out a gym that's only a few blocks away and I love it. Anyway, I'm making my mom join too even though she's not on a diet or anything but she said she'd go to the classes and such with me. Just wondering if anyone had any ideas of what we might both enjoy or things we can do together?
Ps. I'm 18 and she's 42. She's also curious about the spinning classes, and they woman told us they were in the dark, any imput on those?
Definitely check out spinning classes!! I love spinning, and the classes I go to have people from all ages.
I think thats great that your moms joining too, whether or not shes dieting too, its always good to be physical... good for you!!!!
Spinning in the dark? Never heard of that....
It's great of your mom to join with you I agree with stlgirl on that.
Maybe you guys could try power yoga or step aerobics? Maybe even kickboxing, depending on what both your fitness levels are.
Or you could do a regular gym work out next to each other on the treadmill, stationary bike and the weight lift circuit maybe.
Yeah spinning does seem fun, but I'm slightly afraid of the dark so I don't know if I'd like it. And I've always wanted to try kickboxing, is it hard? Neither of us are very in shape yet so we want to start out easy peasy. And is step aerobics where you go up and down on that little platform? Sorry, I'm really new to the going to the gym thing. I just play DDR for my workouts currently but I'm excited to add new things and strength training :)
Thats great! I didnt want to go to the gym alone at first either(at 20,pathetic,huh?lol), so they gave my mom a month pass, and we had such a great time, after her month was up, I didnt go as much :( We didnt take any classes, just used the machines.
the spin classes i've done are done in low light, not complete darkness, so don't be afraid of the dark - it's one of the most intense workouts i've ever experienced. also done in low light is yoga, something you & your mom might really enjoy taking. both are activities that can be truly rewarding for participants of all ages.
i love the idea of you joining a gym with your mom!
If your gym offers step classes, I would highly reccomend trying those too! I go with my two friends every week and we love it. I tried spinning and it just...wasn't for me.
So if you need an alternative, try step! =D
Thanks for the ideas everyone! We're starting our free week trial on Sunday (we're having company over the weekend for the Penn State Ohio Game and she wouldn't be able to use it those days) She wants to try out like a different class each day, I told her we'd be dead after day 1. But still, I'm just really excited to to try all these new things and get my mom involved. I hope she likes it and stays after the free week, but either way I think this gym might be right for me. And today I found out I know other people that go there which is kind of nice, but they are boys (cute boys) so it's also kind of intimidating. I don't know. I'll let you all know how it goes :)
Hi! My mom and I often go to the gym together (and I'm 26!), and we always have fun. Sometimes we will just do cardio on side by side machines. We also take step-aerobics classes together. They are a lot of fun, and don't be intimidated if you have trouble with learning the steps at first. I am a hopeless klutz, and used to have all sorts of trouble (luckily, I have no problem laughing at myself and trying again), and now I have it down pretty well. Step classes might also be good if you are intimidated by the cute boys because the classes are usually all women.
I'm 18 and my mum is 42 as well and we're about to go check out the gym around the corner from us too. We're both too scared to go alone. Haha.
I'm excited about it, it will be fun to do together.
Maybe your mum and you could do some pilates classes together?? My mum and I do pilates DVDs together and they are heaps of fun.
