I'm 48 and I'm going to lose 100+ lbs.
Hi Alley! I totally agree. I'm 38 and am very close to hitting my 100 pounds down mark.
I also have diabetes in my family and watched many of my relatives suffer and/or die from it. Sorry about your mom.
Congrats on the 10 pound loss! You are off to a great start. Stay on fire. You/we can do this. Take it one step at a time with little changes along the way and it will make it easier to become a habit that sticks with you. After all, becoming and staying healthy really is the best habit we can make!
Have a great day to you too! ![]()
Yay for the 10-pound loss! Woo hoo!
You can do this!

Congratulations on starting this journey. Also learn how and why you got here. You just didn't wake up and find out your family has a history of diabetes. The problem why most put there weight back/or give up is they don't understand the human condition. Understand that changing your lifestyle at 48 is tuff so arm yourself with everything you can to win this battle.
Is your husband doing this as well? You need a support group. Clean house and have plenty of healthy snacks avaibable. Make this as easy as possible and make sure you have a treat/cheat day. It's not good on the psyche torturing yourself.
Good Luck
Hi, I will be 53 at the end of this month and I am trying to light my fire! To all the successes who posted here thanks for the inspiration. I love hearing that it can be done!
I have been married for 26 years and my husband is going to be losing weight along with me. We both need to lose a LOT but we can concentrate on just the next few pounds at a time.
Congrats on your great start!
Karen
Alleyway, I hope I gain your resolve. I did watch (well I didn't actually watch him but I did slice it and then put it away) my son eat a slice of his birthday cake last night and I didn't have any but that wasn't because I did not want it....I am doing okay with the food though but I continue to struggle with exercise. I am toying with the idea of bringing the recumbent bike into the livingroom so I can ride it easier but I really don't know if I want it upstairs in the living room. It makes the room so cluttered looking.
Diabetes is scary. My uncle had it.
Hope everyone has a great day.
alleyway, thanks for the encouraging words about the birthday cake. I'll be glad when it is gone though. It is calling my name but the ear plugs are working so far.
My son and I brought the recumbent upstairs today and put it in my husband den. I actually rode for 20 minutes. I hope that is the first 3 of many miles! You are right who cares if it clutters up the room. If it is convenient maybe we will use it more often!
You have a good day tomorrow too!
