I'm losing weight, but I don't think that I look any different!
I started on April 18, 2008 at 144 lbs. Today, I am 136 lbs and this is not an inaccurate weigh in as it has remained within .5 lbs of 136 for the last 3 or 4 days.
I'm really pleased at the rate I'm losing weight, since I was in a normal BMI even before I began, I just wanted to be happier with my image.
However, despite the lovely scale results, I feel like I don't look much different in the mirror! Isn't 8 lbs supposed to be even slighlty noticeable on a 5'4'' figure?
But maybe not, I don't know.
I guess what I am asking is:
Should there be a noticeable improvement in the mirror after 8lbs?
If not, when would be a reasonable amount of weight lost from a 5'4" figure starting at 144 in order to produce a noticeable result?
Basically any advice regarding healthy levels for a 5'4" person and relative body sizes, etc would be very much a help.
Thanks!
oh i know how you feel i'm the same i dont see anything diffrent in me but the
scale says i've lost 3 or 2 pounds ok ok so that little but m... yes your right it should show some result but remember your body has to mold its way into the top shape it is in
know that i think of it when i was actually lighter than how i am know there wasnt a big diffrence in my apperance just on the scale
Body image in our own minds can affect how we see ourselves. I have lost 76 pounds and still see the fat girl in the mirror.
For me when this happens I must remember "How do my clothes fit?" I must say I do notice the difference there! Yeah!!
Original Post by nosouix:I am with you. I have lost more than 110 pounds, but I hate looking at myself. Everyone tells me I look great. All I can say back is that I may look better, but I still don't look good. Maybe I will feel better when I am under 200 in 4 more pounds? Maybe I should post some pics to see if anyone else can see the difference? I went from a size 26 to a 10, you'd think there MUST be a difference!Body image in our own minds can affect how we see ourselves. I have lost 76 pounds and still see the fat girl in the mirror.
Are your clothes "bigger" now?? I am 5'4 and started at 145 lbs... I am now down to 133 lbs :) and I notice a huge difference. When I lost even up to 8 or 9 pounds I felt the same. My clothes actually got tighter before they got looser (I think because I gained muscle before losing fat). Anyways, now that I am so close to my goal I have dropped 2 pant sizes and really can see a difference. It is weird. I could not see a difference and my clothes felt the same and then a few more pounds and BAM everything was too big and I was actually a smaller person! We have very similar stats!! Good luck and maybe we can motivate each other. :)
I'm 5'7.5", started April 23, and have lost 12 lbs (started at 214) so far, but yeah, like you, I'm just not feeling it yet. The problem I have is I've lost it all in the "girls". I've lost almost 2 full inches off the bust (I'm a 42DD, so not really a bad thing) but only 3/4 inch off the hips and 1/2 inch off the waist. It's just REALLY frustrating to keep putting on the same jeans and they seem to fit exactly the the same. I keep feeling like I've done all this work the last month for nothing. Last time I lost 10 lbs, I went down a full size.
Hopefully now I've lost all off the bust I'm going to, and the rest will start coming off the rest of me.
Good luck to you and keep up the good work!
I'm also 5'4 and started this at 147lbs (I was a little heavier before I discovered CC and was trying to lose without the help of this site)
I am down to 140.0 as of today and I am only just now realizing (10lbs later) that I am a smaller person. My boyfriend/friends/family have noticed the changes before I have.
There has to be some mental block that stops us from comparing accurately. I think it is because a lot of us might analyze the changes on a daily basis and so our brains forget what we looked like 10lbs ago since we are only comparing to what we saw yesterday/last time we looked in the mirror.
Sadly I find that it takes longer to adjust the mind than the body. Keep up the good work!
edit: We are our own worst critics!
These are all really good responses, and I think I probably do need to just be more patient, keep working, stay motivated, and allow myself to see progress instead of subconsciously expecting to look like Jessica Alba overnight. Ha ha :] Well, I still have a little bit less than 10 lbs to go until my goal, so I'm going to continue to persevere with tenacity. Thanks guys!
I'm inching closer to 20lbs lost, and the only place where I can really tell a difference is how my face looks when I wear my hair down. I don't notice my lack of jaw-line as much, as it's starting to become slightly more defined again.
However, my husband can see a difference--he last saw me in person when I weighed around 235lbs. As of today I weigh 216ish, and he has received pictures of me (he's deployed) at around this weight.
The only way I can really tell I have lost weight is the fact that my once somewhat-tight pair of jeans are now no longer tight in the waist, and a lot looser in the legs than they used to be. My shirts are also a lot looser in the arms, but not necessarily looser around the middle. My theory is that I lose weight from all over--but since there was less to lose in my limbs than there was in my torso, the torso's loss doesn't seem as significant. I haven't been measuring myself, though, and I plan to on Sunday, on the 1st, so I can start comparing monthly numbers. =) Eventually my brain will catch up and I will see the weight loss. As of right now, the only real way I know for a fact I'm losing weight is through the scale.
sometimes it takes a while to get used to it. if you're soo used to what u look like you might not notice subtle changes when looking in the mirror. i started noticing changes like when i sat down my stomach pudge wasnt AS big or like when i crouched over my thighs were a little thinner. and like i didnt start noticing until a good 3 weeks after id lost the weight.
It took me until I hit 10 pounds to really notice!!! It's like one day you wake up and say, Hey, there's less of me!!!
I've lost about 30 pounds since the beginning of April, and I'm only 5'2", but I still feel I look mostly the same, even in pictures. And no one at work has mentioned anything, so I'm not sure anyone else has noticed either. Only my husband says I look thinner. But my clothes are getting loose. That may be part of the problem; I'm still wearing some of those clothes, which are now looser and baggier, but probably makes me look bigger. But I haven't wanted to buy too many new clothes until I lose a little more weight.
I kinda in the same boat . D:
I lost 10lbs over the summer and the change was visible (as in my stomach shrunk ) . But my mom started staying home so i had to eat all her food . I gained back my weight . But I lost it again ! But my stomach looks exactly the same as I did the last two times I had those 10 lbs . :S
I started at about the same place as you, and didn't notice my body changing until I lost about 10 lbs. I began at 141. By 136 I had a little more room in my jeans but didn't feel any slimmer. Now I estimate I'm at about 128/129 and I can see a difference. Keep going and you will get there! Good luck :)
I know what you mean! I've lost 10 lbs but I still can't tell any difference. Not even in my clothes. It's discouraging, but I'm hoping it's just my own prejudice.
I'm also 5'4" and have just recently (finally) hit 133 - I started at over 150. I would say that I saw results around every 10lbs lost. I am hoping to see more results when I hit 129 because I've been the same "size" all through the 130s. I think it's different for everyone but I know exactly what you are going through, since it is happening to me as well. Hang in there. The results will show eventually - it's inevitable!
