I'm loving this protein (fill in the blank)
Yesterday I picked up some Snickers marathon bars and have to admit it was better than a real live snickers bar!!! I mean if I've got to have chocolate why not a healthier alternative.
I also had a snack of a SouthBeach fluffy chocolate almond bar that was like a Mars bar with almonds yummy!!
So what are some of your favorites protein bars, shakes, foods recipes Etc???
well tony quinn's casein powder has done me wonders. altho it makes my stomach bloated, tastes funny & casein increases tumor growth in rats (there isn't real data on humans as of yet). but when i stopped drinking it on my heavy lifting phase i noticed a decrease in recovery & my immune system. i would only take half a scoop before bed & half a scoop in the morning. i had to start taking it with some magnesium to help the stomach. so even tho i really don't like drinking it, it has helped me. not sure if that's what you were asking tho. ![]()
you know how hard it is to get kids to eat brussel sprouts or brush their teeth? that's how hard it is to get me to eat protein. it's really really hard. but lately i've been having oatmeal, like 2-3 bowls a day. i either melt 2 slices of fat free processed cheese in it (microwave) or i stir in an egg. either one adds lots of protein, so each bowl has around 15grams.

wow really, looks like your muscles get their fair share of protein.
If I'm looking for a good source of protein that's low cal, I turn to tuna. One can has 120 cals and 30 g of protein. Add it to some mixed vegetables and 1/2 C of w/w rice or pasta and you've got yourself a pretty good meal (350 cals, 40 g protein)

I'm almost ashamed to admit it, but the best protein stuff I've found in my travels (and I've tried a lot of different brands from GNC, Vitamin World, etc) is at Costco. Their Kirkland protein bars have 30 grams each and are really pretty good (86 cents a bar, 290 cals), and their EAS Premium Protein powder (140 cals, 27 Grams Protein per two-scoop serving) is hands down the best tasting protein mix I've ever had. It's about 30 bucks for a six pound bag, which, when compared to the stuff I've bought at vitamin/supplement stores, is dirt cheap for how much you get.
I'm really diggin' Muscle Milk light - chocolate (195 cals, 25g protein) before and after my workouts. But after reading pistolpete's post above, I may have to check out EAS's premium powder....more protein and less cals than mine. Do the Kirkland bars taste anyting like Promax? I hated promax bars! It was like eating dirt...or chalk : - /
Good protein shake is IsoPure Zero Carb....50 g protein. The taste is pretty good (dutch chocolate) when you mix it w/. ice cubes and water. Have also been known to put a little coffee in it and mix it up.

Yeah, no. They are WAY better than the Promax. Good analogy. The Promax ones are sawdust coated with potting soil. Blech.
I love Optimum Nutrition's 100% whey for my powder but as for bars, Clif Builder Bars are my favorite. They're not that lean but they're all natural and taste AMAZING.

Patsy,
I friggin love ISOPURE no carb! I make my chocolate concoctions every damn day! :D (1 scoop isopure, 1 tbs sf/ff instant chocolate fudge pudding mix, 1/2 c silk unsweetened soy milk, 6 ice cubes, 4-6oz water) AMAZING! I swear I feel like I should be hiding in a corner somewhere, giggling, drinking my "oh-so-chocolatey" milkshake. lol... without it I'd be lost!
I like Met-Rx Chocolate Covered Peanut protein bars (I go for the 40g bars, not the big-uns) and CarbRite Dieter Bars (chocolate brownie tastes much like a ho-ho or ding-dong; but I do the Reese's PB Cup kind) and PowerBars Protein Plus Reduced Sugar bar if all else fails. (all of these are under 200 cals, more than 20g protein and they all involve... yep chocolate and PB)
I also do like CalorieCountingMe and add 4 egg whites or 1/4 cup egg white protein powder (from NOW Foods) to my oatmeal on the days I eat oatmeal.
Other than that I will eat meat plainly every 2-3 hours or a set of 4 hard-boiled egg whites. :)
good choice, muscle milk is the way it goes, chocolate flavor cant beat that, I like snickers marathon bars too
If you wont a good tasting protein drink MASS XXX it has 66 grams of protein wiyh 990 calories most GNC have it its kinda expensive but its good u have two drinks a mixed with 16 ounces of milk our water milk is better. and the chocolate is my favorite
You must be a hardgainer. With that calorie count per serving I'd look like the Michelin Man in two weeks. If I put in milk instead of water, I'd look like Jabba the Hutt in a month.
I'm still using my EAS Premium. 140 cals, 27 g per serving. Us old guys gotta watch our numbers.
I loooooooove GNC Wheybolic Extreme 60. Mix it with milk for even more protein and it takes a Nesquick chocolate shake except I don't feel guilty for drinking it. It cuts my soreness in half. Its a great supplement to lose weight by mixing it with fruit and ice in the blender for breakfast because of the protein boost. Its the same as Muscle Milk but tastes just a tiny bit better.
I got to agree with Pistol Pete on the Costco protein bars. However, it comes in three different flavors and the PB and Yogurt is good but I do not care for the double chocolate...my Wife and I fight over who has to eat those. (I usually will eat them with a coffee to wash it down)
I love Muscle Max's Max Gainer 50 (50g protein and 90g carbs...600 calories) right after my workout. There is no way I am drinking this pre-workout as I would puke it up. I am sooooooooo full after I drink this. I also put a scoop into my oats in the morning.
The rest of the time it is chicken breast, cottage cheese, egg whites, and ground turkey.
I treated myself to HAM this Easter weekend... I needed to such down a gallon of water afterwards but it was worth it.... Hammmmm so salty!!!!
