I'm now a MAC!! Are you a MAC too?

Quote  |  Reply

I'm so happy. I bought my first MAC yesterday and I love it already!! It's so cool and easy to use. I will never go back...to a PC that is. What are some cool things that I should know about my MAC. I do plan on taking a class on my computer.

Hubby and I were converted in January, and with only a few setbacks, we love it so far.

One of my fave features:  Stickies.  Virtual post it notes to put on the desktop.  They're pretty cool.

One word of warning about taking online classes - I'm doing it now, and there are some schools that insist on assignments being turned in as .doc or .xls files (I've encountered this in my job search efforts as well), and their online handouts are .doc or .xls files as well - while the MAC can open them, the translation isn't that great unless you have MAC versions of word/excel and a windows emulator, which we don't.  I've been able to live with it though.

nope.  i found a PC that's just as pretty and half the price Wink

Buy an external hard drive. Mine is only a year old and it's already running pretty slow. I need to get an external and back my stuff up.

I'm a PC!!!

People, let us stop this futile bickering and pointless polarity.  Do what I did:

Buy a PC and a MAC.

The world...united.

Whoo! We did too... although I'm partial to the mac.

I'm a Mac.  If you don't want to buy Microsoft Office for Mac, you could try looking at openoffice.org.  It's free.  I don't use it, but I've heard it's pretty good.

I just took a quick look at the website, and while I'll need to read up on it, it does look pretty cool.

Thanks for the tip!  Smile

I started using computers on a Mac waaay before they had the "I'm a Mac!" campaign, so I don't know if I get to actually BE one? But I love Macs anyway.

we have a couple of macs & pc's. but i gotta tell ya, macs are a bit better. and not just because they 'look' nice. i love the way macs just start up when you turn them on. and i've had less hassle with macs over the decades than pc's.

openoffice is good enough for home use, defo.

I have both. Yay

Arrgghh!  What have you done!  Everybody run for cover!  And for those who like to get mad--I did not start this one!

I grew up on PCs, learned a lot about how they worked, then switched to a Mac... didn't like how different everything was and how I didn't know how to do anything on a Mac (though I did figure out how to do a right click heheh) So I sold it on Craigslist after a year or two and got a Tablet PC, which was pretty cheap, but I pretty much never use the tablet functions. Unless I'm drawing pretty pictures or something :]

I've got MS Office for mac (the original way to save doc. and xls. files aswell as other microsoft office formats)

I tried OpenOffice while trying to take online classes.  It won't work.  Plus when I finally got  MSWord 7, the OpenOffice files wouldn't transfer.  Yes, you can go from MSWord to OpenOffice, but you can't reverse the order.  Hours of Re-do on the Final papers I needed to submit.  Plus OO seems to hound you about buying this and that, and keeps asking for a donation to keep their site free.Yell

Welcome to the club! Ha Ha! I have had my Mac Book Pro for almost 5 years now! WOW I cannot believe it has been that long! It's been pretty great except for a couple of things but according to all of the computer technicians my computer is a lemon! Ah ha ha - sweet, not why I am paying the guy!

*Be sure to NOT spill anything on it too - They have yet to invent water proof ones!!! ha ha!

i spilled a cup of coffee on my previous pc laptop.  i think it objected to the heat more than to the wetness.  i just ordered a new keyboard and installed it myself.
