im having major problems..
I have gone on diets and tried to just "eat better" not going on a "diet" i have never succeeded. i just feel like i cant do it. i have never been able to do it since i found out i was insulin resistent in 5th grade. now i am feeling really sad, about this. i just realized how much bigger i have gotten since a year ago. i feel like i dont have enough time for anything. i think im pretty stressed also. there has been a lot of changes with my social life and it makes me sad, which doesnt help. i have not exercised in like 3 weeks. Im 16, i want to start living like a normal teenager and stop holding myself back because of my weight. i have such a bad attitude over my weight and eating better. I just am completely out of my mind in what to do with myself. i need motivation. or something. i need help. i just want to sit in my house and be alone. my eating seems to have gone out of control i dont think i have really eaten anything healthy lately. im scared. im sad. im confused.

Hi jenning, since you have a med condition, I wont say anything about food, other than try get some nutritionist/doctor's help in that department. However, I can say this:
I used to feel defeated as well. The key is to find YOUR own motivation. What is it that you really want. What is it that you passionate about. etc.
Sitting alone and wallow is actually more difficult than going out and DO something. Really. And the bonus is, after you do something, you actually feel good about yourself. It is like a chain reaction from there. Consider yourself hopping on a train and you just keep on going to get that feel good feeling again.
Stop comparing yourself to others (that means the skinnies). Every one got their own problem, so just focus on yours. You want to take charge of your weight, your body, your mind.
Keep in mind that changes does not happen overnight. It will require repetition, and dedication.
Focus on your goal. Everytime you feel like you going to falter, think what your goal is. And smack yourself on the face :p (well, you can do it literally or mentally LOL. I usually let out a loud audible exhale and move on to other healthier thoughts).
Stop being confused. It is either stay over weight or doing something about it. It is either suck it up and eat healthy or eat crap and feel like crap. :) I think you know what you want. Then go for it, girl! You CAN do it. Just tell yourself you can and you will do it, k?

Sweet_Tart is so right.
You need to take 100% responsibility for your life, now. You need to look at your life and decide what it is you really want. Once you do, just do the things that people do who have what you want already. So if you want to be thin find out what people with your med problem do to get thin, I bet once you are thin your problem will resove itself.

HI jenning,
I, too want to sit in my room and hide a lot, and it's because of depression. Have you tried talking to someone you trust, like a counselor or pastor? Do you have any other signs of depression? Do a google search on signs of depression and make sure. That can complicate things. Exercise can help your mood a lot, just going for a walk, especially if you have a dog. Petting a dog will lower your anxiety and blood pressure. Can you make some friends on this site so you have people to talk to? Most of us here struggle with how we percieve our bodies, and there are lots of posts about it that might help to motivate you, too. Hang in there, and don't give up. This program is for YOU and we're all here for you, too.

Thanks to all of you guys. this really got my spirits up! i think this is really going to help me!! ive been to a nutritionist i think in 5th or 6th grade (im in 11th now) when i first found out i had insulin resistance (pre- diabetes) and she told me pretty much eat low carb. i wonder what she would tell me now since they have new medical info? :) thanks everyone. oh and i have a 6month old puppy i think that it will help to take her on more walks.
Hi Jenning,
Congrats on the puppy! That could be a big help to you actually. What kind, girl or boy, etc? I have a two year old papillion that I just got done going through winter classes to become a certified therapy dog, and a reading assistance dog. We go to nursing homes to visit the residents, and schools and libraries to help kids read. It forces me to get out of the house and think of someone except me and my own negative feelings. Maybe you could find a fun activity to do with your dog. We live in a rural area, so flyball, and agility, etc., aren't possible, but if you're in a city, you can do obedience training, or lots of other things. If you want advice on looking for a good trainer or how to start training your dog yourself, let me know and I can help. Getting active with my dog is what got me out and moving again. Maybe it would work for you, too.

Hey gurl,
I know EXACTLY what you've gone through and are going through now. I am insulin resistant too! I just found out a couple of months ago and I thought it was the end of the world - and in many ways it was! I was suddenly visiting doctors and wondering how I was going to cope!
I don't know if you are seeing a doctor - but you should. I found one who gave me excellent medication and with a reasonable diet and exercise regime I have now dropped 6 pounds in less than 3 weeks!
I am on a 1500 calorie/day diet and am walking enough so that I burn 400 calories/day. That's it.
Everyone's bodies are different, so you may not lose as much as I have OR you may melt like crazy... TRUST ME... I know EXACTLY what you're going through! I have been overweight all my life. All my relationships, friends, meetings, vacations ...everything was and to a large extent still is, governed by my weight...
I have been on every diet there is on this planet and I have realised that the simple equation of burning more than you consume is the ONLY way to do it.
I am so jealous - you have a puppy!! Awesome!!! What breed and colour?? Male? female? I ADORE dogs!!!!! Take your pup for a walk!!!!! Start slow... that way you'll incorporate exercise with fun!!
I'm 33 today. You're 16... I'm double your age.... don't become my age and be stuck with this problem - kick it now... if you want, we can buddy up!
Let me know ;-) YOu can do it! Trust me!

ooh and one more thing. I was told by 3 doctors that due to this condition, I am not supposed to do any aerobic exercise! So running or going to a dance class is out ... :-(
Reason : the sudden accelerated heart rate spikes insulin levels and defeats the purpose... so walking, yoga or pilates is the way to go. Once your insulin levels are under control, you can try a faster exercise... read up a lot about this on the internet coz it had freaked me out! :-)
So, while everyone else is panting like crazy on that treadmill... you have to walk brisk but not fast... the trick is you have to walk longer.... not faster.. ok??
Cheer up - it's not the end of the world :-)

Hey!
Yeah... being insulin resitant is hard... or maybe I should say that it's harder for us to lose weight as compared to other "normal" people.
But... if you go at it nice and easy, you will do fine...
When I started the medication, it drained me completely. I was getting headaches and could barely eat - leave alone exercising! So I decided to just let the medication settle down with my body and then start exercising slowly after that...
So I started the medicines in Feb... I JUSt started walking in the begining of May... and for those months I didn't lose any weight... I cried, called the doctor, yelled at him for making me feel like hell and stay fat...LOL The doctor is actually a great buddy so he listened... then told me to shut up, continue the medication and start walking.... I started calorie counting and walking in the 1st week of May and I am now down 7 pounds.... so I would urge you to go see your doctor. Get some bloodwork done and start medication according to your prescription.
Let your body sort out and then start walking... but slowly.
Buddying up will be great! I live in India so I don't know what the time difference is.... but if it helps..I am GMT + 5 1/2 hours.
Roxi sounds really cool! I looooove dogs!!! YOu are so lucky! I love thema lot and I had a dog but when she died, it was just too painful. So I decided not to keep dogs anymore... i now have a huge aquarium instead :-D
Anyway.... I wish you luck with this.. and let me know if you want to buddy up. We could connect on either yahoo messenger or msn messenger.
Keep your chin up!
