I could live with Obama or Edwards easily but Hilary is a fighter and we need universal health care in this country.

I think Obama is a warm, kind, caring compassionate guy who unfortunately is not well-seasoned yet politically. He doesn't know what he doesn't know. And yet, Honest Abe was in the same boat...

Ron Paul sounds so intelligent and what a thinker! He'd get my vote but I have heard rumors (I haven't checked them out yet!) that he's racist...just a rumor is enough to make me look elsewhere. I have to check this out.

Just let me pose this question to you Sharon, has anything ever run by our government really function all that well? I mean seriously they screw it all up! So you think having a universal health care system isnt going to be the same as the rest of the faulty programs we have? I dont know I just dont get how that is the endall answer to our rising health care costs I find it a bad choice which will lead to even more bogus doctors and horrible care. I dont dislike Hilary or Obama for that matter but im an independant and rightfully so these days.

Have you seen the movie Sicko?  The role of the Private medical insurance industry is to DENY you health care.  If they can deny your medical insurance claims, that means more profit for the insurance company.  A universal health care system, however botched up by the usual government screw-ups, will at least have the goal of delivering health care, not denying it.

Would you like to see Police and Fire Departments run by private industry, with contracts going to the lowest bidder?

(Disclaimer:  I'm a Canadian, and should not be commenting on US politics, so I'll shut up now. )

Just so you know crashtest our firedepartments around here are run privately through donations, I live in a small town and we do just fine with having them this way.

I don't live in Michigan, but I'm curious to see how that state turns out.  Our primaries are after Super Tuesday so "don't matter".

I will agree that Ron Paul is a great orator. He knows a lot on the subjects that he chooses to expand upon. He's a doctor with strong ties to his community.

But let me tell you...as popular as he is where I am (East Tennessee), my personal opinion is that he's a fruitcake. I don't have a problem with thinking outside of the box, it's good to expand our horizons. However, to me, he's still a nut and when folks tell me they like his "down home style" of talking to the "common man", I have to point out that the things he wishes to abolish (Roe vs. Wade, to name one) and the IRS. Add to that he will state that he wouldn't replace the IRS with another tax, but yet give us smaller "necessary" taxes. Seems like more of the same to me...and while he makes bold statements to gain attention, I don't know that what he proposes to do will be any better for this country.

Again, my perspective. I'm a democrat that likes several things about Hilary, Obama and Edwards and I'm conflicted about whom to vote for at this point.

hk, your primary might matter this year

To the republicans, possibly. I guess we'll see as we get to and past Super Tuesday, eh?

To the republicans AND to the democrats.

It's not over.  Obama is ahead in SC by 10% (after being down by 20% this past summer).  It's still a 3-person contest for the dems, as much as the media might want to portray it as otherwise. And it also seems entirely possible that one campaign or another could possibly implode, which could change the shape of the race entirely.

This is a very interesting year, politically.

You are correct...Hilary was the front runner for so long...then Obama won Iowa. Hilary surprised folks and won NH. It's anyone's game.
yes, it is anyone's game and crashtest, as long as you're on my side, you can always weight in...we love our Canadian neighbors!

mel_tn I'm starting to think that THAT is what I like @ Ron Paul... and even tho I'm not a fan of abortion I AM TOTALLY pro-choice (just wish women had other options!). Ron Paul wants to knock out control by the feds and bring things like abortion back to local legislation. 'I don't want your laws on my body"...does that ring a bell? The federal government makes sweeping legislation when debate should be going on so much more on a local level?

Also, I think he believes in reform for universal health care...that he said something @ moving money away from funding war (Iraq) and bringing it back home in order to fund universal health care.

If that sounds radical than who is really nuts? Ron Paul or the rest of us?
oh and angie,

if we were finally smart about our programs...we don't have to create a nat'l health care system on our own...there are up and running fully functional and successful systems ALL OVER THE INDUSTRIALIZED WORLD and even in some less developed countries!

We wouldn't have to invent the wheel in order for our seniors to have a program in place so that they don't have to choose between paying rent and paying for pills...in order for all our kids of single parents to be covered...on and on...
she does not have my vote heck nooooooo
Huh. This reminds me a lot of the other thread that you made right here: http://www.calorie-count.com/forums/post/page /1/75980.html

First I would love for ever single American who has the right to vote, VOTE!

Then I would like each one of them to declare non party affiliations, this way the politician don't know what's going to happen and maybe just maybe WE THE PEOPLE can finally have a government for the people by the people.

Wouldn't it also be wonderful if we had truth in political stumping.

A true debate, where the politician don't set the rules. (League of women voters).

This is a great nation with great people. This is also a nation were we have let our nation be taken over by a few self serving individual.

We can not have just a two party system, We need multiple ideal,. from different levels in order to succeed. I don't care who runes this country as long as they truly listen to the pains of out suffering.

I love this country, I would die for this country. but don't lie to me. That I will not stand for.

I am personally an Obama fan. But that is just me. I don't say that too much around my house, because everybody in my immediate family is republican except me. My mom saw a picture of OBama on my myspace the other day, and I thought she was going to kill me. I like some of Hilary's ideas, but I think that she has been corrupted by politics for so long that if she gets into office, her decisions will not necesarily be what best benefits the people. I like Obama though, because he is relatively new in the realm of politics, so he hasn't been quite as corrupted as all the other politicians. Also, while he doesn't make huge promises that he can never keep, as so many candidate hopefuls do, he makes smaller  goals with feasible plans on how to achieve them. I think if he gets into office, he will do this nation a lot of good.

That's all just my opinion though. It's still anybody's game.
