i'm new to this, & basically looking for some motivation tips, or general tips :)

Okay, right, I'm new to this website, but nevertheles i'm sure i'll understand it all soon!

 I've been on my strict eating diet and exercising for two days now, so far so good, i ran for an hour yesterday, and ten minutes today because i was knackered from walking to and from school!

My starting weight is 179lbs. quite bad for a 16 year old :( but yanoe, i wanna sort it out, and i am really determined too.

 I'm going on holiday next year for three weeks to the USA, and i don't want to be as big, & i wanna look great in a bikini! however my main flaw is the fact that motivation is so hard for me!

 does anyone have any great motivation tips for me ?

i plan on eating about 1000-1200 kcals a day, i know that quite low, but i snack a lot on fruit and veg, so i dont get hungry...

I would also like some people to be my 'friends' on this site, because i believe we could all help each other with support and advice, and use team work to stride towards our goals! :)

you are right, your calories are definitely too low.... with your exercise you will need more calories or your body will be starved.  It is great that you eat lots of veggies and fruits- just make sure you at least eat 1200 per day.  Try using the BMR tool on here to figure out how many calories you need after incorporating your workout...

that being said, my best motivator was to think of this journey as one day at a time.  Don't look at it like 29 down, 41 to go... look at it more like:  I worked out today, ate great foods and didn't go over my calorie limit.... that's what helped me =)

yeah im thinking it like that.. but im going to Florida, and my motivations at the moment are the fact that my mom said she'll buy me some expensive designer bikini's, so i really am hoping. i know im only on day two, but sometimes what makes me stop dieting, is the fact that it takes far too long, however, IT IS ALL WORTH IT!

A good tip is don't go overboard with the workouts, you'll just burn out after a couple of weeks.  I alternate cardio and weights and only do 30-45 min a day and am consistantly losing 1-2 lbs a week.  I work out 4-5 days a week.  If you really want to look good in the bikini then weights are the way to go to have great definition.  Otherwise you may end up "skinny fat".  It's when the scale shows a small number but your body is still squishy.  Use the tools to make sure you are eating enough to fuel your body.  I believe teens need at least 1500cals a day.

mm, you see i think the reason im going overboard on limiting the calorie intake is because i think i will lose weight quicker.. im not sure. yeah me and my boyfriend are going to start going to the gym soon, he is a big inspiration in my life, he was once 15 stone, and is now 10 and a half! so im dead proud of him...

yeah i know what you mean by skinny fat, but i have to lose the fat first to start toning up otherwise my fat will turn into muscle.. right ?

You are doing yourself harm kid.  At a light activity level you should be consuming 1600-1800 calories per day at 16 f 179 depending on your height.  Please please please dont beleieve you can lose more by reducing your calories you could be stunting bone/muscle growth.  Also, if your calorie deficet (calories burned vs calories consumed) is more then 1000  your body goes into starvation mode and it actually starts hording fat rather then burning it.

Okay, right.. sorry id din't know it was bad, as friends were telling me that i should try to get it as low as possible :s and being a fool i believed them.

i do do a lot of exercise, i wakl 7 miles everyday, 3.5 to skl & back, and i also run 2 miles a night...

 

how do i know how much calories i burn from walking / running ?

 

brisk pace (3 mph)? any hills? and on the 2 mile 18-20 minutes i would guess conservatively 2-300 calories mabye more  and ya i would try to stay around 1800-1900 calories per day.  If you feel hungry eating that add more.  3 meals per day with a snack morning and afternoon.  Remember slow and steady wins the race it took you quite awhile to get up to that weight its going to take awhile to lose it also.  also if you dont mind sharing how tall are you?

Muscle and fat are two different things.  One cannot turn into the other.  Adding muscle now will burn the fat easier as more muscle raises your matabolism.  Weights will also tighten your muscle making you look smaller.  Think sucking in your stomach, it doesn't make you lighter but makes you look slimmer.  Drinking lots of water will also help keep you from ending up with extra skin once the weight is gone.

is there any way of getting rid of any cellulite aswell ? because many a people say there isn't, and i want to know from you guys if there is!

today my calorie intake was 1200, my boyfriend begged me to eat a hot dog, and i gave into temptation, but in my mind i was thinking 'ya no wat, ive only had 800 today i can have a hot dog'

okay, is there any more ways of speeding up my metabolism ?

And yeah , there are some hills, and yes i do walk at a brisk pace. Yeah, sometimes i sit here depressing myself thinking, why on earth have i got to this weight, but i guess its my own fault, i just hope i lose between 20-40 pounds for florida next year, because i want to look really nice . another thing i find difficulte is going to the Gym, because im always scared people are going to be looking at me, or staring at me thinking OMG shes really big! but my boyfriend keeps egging me on to go, so im going to join BACK up again next week, and try to get into shape some more, although it isn't like im not doing a lot of exercise anyway. but yanoe, exercise cannot harm - i hope ;)

100% agree with the other ideas. Make sure you eat MORE than 1200cal a day, this should be the minimum for a woman who has stopped growing, a teen should be eating more. I know it sound silly, but if you go under your body will go into starvation mode, this happened to me a couple times before I realised that I had to eat more.

Another thing is to don't overdo the exercise, I also used to do this and I got tired, I was always cranky and felt horrible. I stick to around 30 - 60 mins a day, usually weights, and some cardio. Also make sure this is a long term thing, you can't diet and stay that way forever it just doesn't work I have proved this to myself time and time again, I have been yo-yoing since I was 15, anywhere from 128 - 170lbs, its not fun. I would always want to lose weight and do it fast I am now 23 and only just come to realise that its a lifetime thing. But its not that bad, I can lose weight and still eat chocolate sometimes. Its about being smart not killing yourself.

There were a number of occasions that I wanted to get to a certain weight by a certain date and years later I'm still not there because I exercised too hard, dieted too much and put too much pressure on myself to get there hard and fast.

Take it easy, change small things at a time, DON'T punish yourself if you have a bad day or week and trust me you WILL get there Smile

Yeah, ive boosted my intake up today to 1400 :) and still going do a run tonight which should be good, because i can take all my stress and anger out then, resulting in something good.

im also rather proud of myself because ive lost 1lb in 2 days, so thats quite an achievement for me.

and ive not come to the understanding that it will take me time, and i appreciate everyones responses and helps because it makes you realise there are people who are ou there understanding you..

how did you lose weight Nardz4 ? because to range between 170lbs, and 128, is quite a big leap :).

i dont punish myself, i just make choices, like today mom offered me toast and jam for breakfast (which isn't that bad i guess) but instead i said no, i'm going to have bran flakes, and ive not become addicted to salad, but i do miss some meats, so yesterday for tea, i added some meat into it too, which was really nice!

The salad thing,  That's all i have for dinner sometimes  is a mixed green salad with bell pepper tomatoe celery and a quarter avacado with about 3 oz of steak or chicken on top
