I'm new here and have a couple of questions.
Hi Everyone,
I'm wondering what you all eat as a healthy breakfast that is filling and lasting but doesn't put you over on calories? Breakfast is my favorite meal of the day and I'm afraid that if I thin it down too much that it will be my undoing. I'm doing great on watching what I eat for the rest of the day until late evening. Do any of you have any ideas on how to keep from eating at night. It seems like as soon as I get my kids into bed and the house is finally quiet that I head straight to the kitchen.
Often, I'll eat dinner for breakfast and breakfast for dinner. I am most hungry in the morning, so I've learned to consume almost my full amount of dinner calories in the morning. Then, at dinner time, I use only breakfast calorie amounts. I find that by starting my day on a satisfied tummy, I am not ravenous for the remainder of the day.....and, it's easier to control my calorie intake.
Example: 2 -3 ounces turkey breast, 2 slices reduced calorie rye (WW's is good), honey mustard, a cup of fresh veggies like steamed spinach or escarole with balsamic vinegar and a serving of fresh fruit like a clementine, peach, cup of fresh strawberries, small orange, etc.. All that with a cup of herb tea and I'm stuffed.
Then, for lunch I'll have a large green salad with lots of fresh veggies and some protein, and for dinner....I like Special K High Protein Cereal with skim milk and fresh fruit like sliced banana or berries.
I think there's something out there called the Reverse Diet and it may be this type of plan. You can do it on your own. Just learn that if you consume your largest amount of calories for breakfast that you can't consume that same large amount for dinner and loose weight. Try it! You may be pleasantly surprised that you are not heading right for the kitchen once your kids are in bed because you've already satisfied the hungries at the best time of day for you!
Heh. If I have breakfast less than 250 calories I'm still hungry. And I find that eating a good breakfast really does help with the whole rest of the day. Try and keep a good breakfast and see if you can keep to your limit for the day.
When I am hungry at night, I typically have some water with lemon and/or eat a small snack of fruit and/or nuts. Like an apple or 5 walnut pieces (about 50 calories), or 2 dates (about 50 calories. That usually satisfies the food craving.
Others who have more severe night munchies may have better advice.
