I'm new! 22/F w/ more than 100# to lose!
I'm new! I just discovered this site while I was searching for the amount of calories in certain foods. I haven't really tried to "diet" before, so I really don't know very much. (Primarily just that I need to burn more calories than I take in.) I was in the Biggest Loser Club for a month, and from what I've seen on this website it's 100 times better, and FREE vs. $19.95/month for virtually the same information w/o calorie tracking. My initial goal weight is 300#, then 250#, followed by 200#, and eventually 150#.
My Stats are:
I'm a 22 year old female.
I weigh approximately 365 (getting a new scale so I'll have exact numbers)
I'm 5'10
Bust: 55" (including cup)
Waist: 51"
Pant Size: 26 Old Navy, 28 or 30 Lane Bryant (dot com)
Shirt Size: 3X or 4X Old Navy, 26/28 or 30/32 most other brands
I work as an Emergency Dispatcher (Police/Fire/EMS), so I'm mostly sitting in an office chair for 8 hours straight. I have a stationary bike that I'm beginning to ride, and I'm working on getting some more equipment to help me exercise. I've been watching what I eat for the last week or so, and my total calorie intake for today based on my figures and this website is 1,051. The site says that I've burned about 600 calories from exercise, but it has something like my regular calorie burning would be 2,700??? I'm not sure what it's referring to (help?). Anywho- I see that there are a lot of great, inspirational people on this site, and I look forward to interacting with you all!
First of all, congratulations on your efforts. I applaud you for your decision to get healthier and take better care of yourself. As someone who decided more than a decade ago to do what you are doing, and who ultimately lost 100 pounds of fat without pills or surgery, I can honestly be proof positive that you can and WILL achieve your weight loss goals! :)
That said, I'm here to help. My suggestion is to ignore that 2700 mark, and go into the tools/analysis section of the site and enter your current weight, current goal weight and activity level and it will tell you how many calories (a round average) that you are burning on a daily basis. Then, aim to eat about 500-750 calories less than that amount each day. This should result in a slow (but steady) weight loss, which is definitely the way to go.
Consider small, daily changes that you can make one week or one month at a time and build on those once they have become habit to you. Have you ever heard the expression, "How do you eat an elephant? One piece at a time!"
Ultimately, this is a journey of self discovery and you are going to have to take it one day at a time.
I can already picture you, in the future, posting on this site with the title "I met my goal!"
Good luck!
Oh, and you should probably do some research about safe dieting and stuff. Find out your BMR, and NEVER eat below that amount. Calorie-Count is fairly accurate when it tells you your total burn-rate for the day.
Welcome! I am on my own 100 pound journey. I have lost 76.5 so far. I have been on this journey for a long time for about 2 years. It is not a race, it is a lifestyle change. I have taken a break every once awhile. I am ok with it. I am disabled and cannot exercise much, so I am happy with my progress.
I work 12 hours a day 6 days as a dispatcher from home. I have been at this job for over a year. I have resistance bands and a stability ball but do not use them very much. I get out and walk when I feel like it. I have hypothyroidism and average 6,331 calories per pound lost not your average of 3,500 calories. This is over the entire time I have been trying to lose weight.
Most people can eat their BMR and lost weight, but with hypothyroidism, you have to eat 300 less than the BMR to lose weight (from a Hypothyroid site).
Do not be in a hurry as most hurry up programs only end up with you gaining the weight back. I should know as I have lost about about 1,000 pounds over the last 20 years only to gain it back plus dome every time.
Good Luck, and let me know if I can help.
Wow, you are very similar to me. I'm only 5'8 and started this at what I thought was the same weight as you. Either the scale at the doctor's office the month before was off, I lost some before starting cause I had been sick, or I just lost a bunch of water weight. I'm doing 1400-1600 a day and exercising a few times a week. Don't worry too much about the meters on your page. I think what is actually recommended (besides the 1000 difference in calories a day from that rate) is to eat at the calories of the weight you want to be. I'm definitely losing from when I've weighed myself. But 1050 is way too low. 1200 is typically the minimum for an averaged size lady, which we aren't when you look at height and weight, so take that into account too.
Biggest thing for me was to actually take a look at the amount I eat compared to the serving size.
And mimi, I've seen a few of your posts lately. You would be great as a personal trainer or assistant or whatever (yes, the world of modeling would lose you though). You are very motivating and encouraging.
Hey. Good of you to join. I needed to lose hundred myself. I started at 310 pounds. 5'11 and am down to 240. You will feel a world of difference. Let me know if I can help you with anything. This site is great for logging in your calorie intake and all as well as activities and workouts that you do daily. Keep in mind to lose the weight slowly so this way it does not take a toll on your body.
Hi! I too have to lose 100+ lbs. I started at 342 and am down to 314 at this time. So, I'm getting there. You should add me to your friend list. I could use a friend.
try this one also, it get me from 256lb to 210lb in 3 monthes with no excersice (I asked my physician about it and he confirmed it is healthy).
and by the way, I am off the diet for 6 weeks now, following a new life style of eating habbits and excersicing, and I never get the weight back :)
Best of luck
Sacred Heart Medical Diet
This 7-day eating plan can be used as often as you like. If correctly followed, it will clean out your system of impurities and give you a feeling of well-being. After only 7 days of this process, you will begin to feel lighter by at least 10 pounds and possibly 17 pounds, and experience an abundance of energy.
SOUP:
· &n bsp; 1 or 2 cans of stewed tomatoes
· &n bsp; 3 plus large green onions
· &n bsp; 1 large can of beef broth (no fat)
· &n bsp; 1 pkg. Lipton Soup mix (chicken noodle)
· &n bsp; 1 bunch of celery
· &n bsp; 2 cans green beans
· &n bsp; 2 lbs. Carrots
· &n bsp; 2 Green Peppers
Season with salt, pepper curry, parsley, if desired, or bouillon, hot or Worcestershire sauce. Cut veggies in small to medium pieces. Cover with water. Boil fast for 10 minutes. Reduce to simmer and continue to cook until veggies are tender.
This soup can be eaten anytime you are hungry during the week. Eat as much as you want, whenever you want. This soup will not add calories. The more you eat, the more you will lose. You may want to fill a thermos in the morning if you will be away during the day.
DRINKS:
· &n bsp; Unsweetened juices
· &n bsp; Tea (also herbal)
· &n bsp; Coffee
· &n bsp; Cranberry juice
· &n bsp; Skim milk
· &n bsp; Water, water, water
DAY ONE
Any fruit (except bananas). Cantaloupes and watermelon are lower in calories than most other fruits. Eat only soup and fruit today.
DAY TWO
All vegetables. Eat until you are stuffed with fresh raw, cooked or canned veggies. Try to eat green leafy veggies and stay away from dry beans, peas or corn. Eat veggies along with the soup. At dinnertime tonight reward yourself with a big baked potato and butter. Don't eat any fruits through today.
DAY THREE
Eat all the soup, fruit and veggies you want. Do not have a baked potato. If you have eaten as above for three days and not cheated, you should find that you have lost 5-7 pounds.
DAY FOUR
Bananas and skim milk: Eat at least 3 bananas and drink as much milk as you can today, along with the soup. Bananas are high in calories and carbohydrates, as is the milk but on this particular day, your body will need the potassium and carbs. Proteins and calcium to lessen the cravings for sweets.
DAY FIVE
Beef and tomatoes: you may have 10 to 20 ounces of beef and a can of tomatoes, or as many as 6 tomatoes on this day. Eat the soup at least once today.
DAY SIX
Beef and veggies, eat to your heart's content of the beef and veggies today. You can even have 2-3 steaks if you like with green leafy veggies but no baked potato. Be sure to eat the soup at least once today.
DAY SEVEN
Brown rice, unsweetened fruit juice and veggies, again, be sure to stuff yourself and eat the soup. You can add cooked veggies to your rice if you wish.
By the end of the 7th day, if you have not cheated on this diet, you should have lost 10 to 17 pounds. If you have lost more than 17 pounds, stay off the diet for two days before resuming the diet again.
This diet is fast. The secret lies within the principle that you will burn more calories than you take in. It will flush your system of impurities and give you a feeling of well-being. This diet does not lend itself to drinking any alcoholic beverages at any time. Because of the fat build-up in your system. Go off the diet at least 14 hours before any intake of alcohol.
Due to the variety of digestive systems in individuals, this diet will affect everyone differently. After day three, you will have more energy than when you began, if you do not cheat. After being on the diet for several days, you will find that your bowel movements have changed. Eat a cup of bran or fiber. Although you can have black coffee with this diet, you may find that you don't need caffeine after the third day.
The basic fat burning soup can be eaten anytime you feel hungry during the seven days. Eat as much as you wish. Remember the more you eat, the more you will lose. You can eat broiled, boiled or baked chicken instead of the beef. Absolutely no skin on the chicken. If you prefer, you can substitute broiled fish for the beef on only one of the beef days. You need the high protein in the beef for the other days.
Continue on the diet as long as you wish and feel the difference both mentally and physically.
DO NOT - DO NOT
No bread, alcohol, carbonated drinks (including diet drinks). Remember, absolutely no fried foods.
DO - DO - DO - DO
Drink plenty - at least 6 to 8 glasses - of water a day, as well as any combination of the following beverages: black coffee, unsweetened fruit drinks, cranberry juice and skim milk.
This diet comes from the Sacred Heart Memorial Hospital that is used for overweight heart patients in order to lose weight rapidly, usually prior to surgery.
Hey Congratulations on your decision to become healthier, I found a website that calculates your BMR http://health.discovery.com/tools/calculators /basal/basal.html
Also I went and had a Body Composition done at my gym it told me my percentage of good and bad body fat, also it gives you a really good indication of what your goal weight should be. Good luck and stick with it.
Ah ha! I got the scale, and I weighed in at 356 yesterday (roughly 10lbs less than I thought! whew!)
Yesterday I ate 1,900 calories and worked my butt off moving furniture and boxes (moving into a new place). I think I'm at around 600 for today, but of course I'll eat dinner!
I'm in the South and if you're not from here or haven't visited...you don't know how we eat! LOL A good friend of mine once said (when asked how she wanted her vegetables) "Fried." LOL We fry everything from beans to tomatoes and that's what I've got to get away from. I've started grilling alot more to keep away from frying stuff.
I've never talked about my weight with anyone and I'd never told anyone how much I weigh. I was inspired by all of the people that posted their weight (women in particular) and their progress. I'd always been embarrased to tell people my weight and discuss it.
I've always been overweight, I graduated high school as a size 22/24 and probably weighed around 260-270.
I'm an over-eater. (The quiz on here said so too, lol) I know I over eat, so I've been trying to make sure that I stop myself from snacking when I'm not actually hungry and tried to stop eating when I was full, which has been a challenge, but I'm getting better. I've sworn off fast food (which if you work or ever have worked in emergency services is kind of your lifestyle, b/c you don't have time for anything else) I'm trying to get away from the carbonated sodas (another all time favortie) I've started drinking green tea, it doesnt have as many calories and I'm also drinking water a lot more. (The key lime flavor from wal-mart is awesome w/ 0 calories and like 50 cent for 24oz)
Anywho- I really appreciate the support! I'm off to moving stuff again!!
My myspace is: http://www.myspace.com/hg_southern_belle if anyone else has a myspace.
Congratulations on your decision to start living a healthy life! I know how exciting it is. :) It's going to be a long process, but just remember every day is a new day. You can do this! I am on my own journey to lose 60 lbs. I know more would be better, but I would be extatic to be 170lbs! Remember to keep you body moving...I'm here for support if you'd like it! *hugs*
First off, welcome to CC!!!
Second, honey you need to eat WAY more than you are currently. Even if you start out at 2000 that's still low for your current weight.
I plugged in your numbers and it says at SEDENTARY you burn about 2900 calories. Thats not including exercise. So my suggestion would be to start out eating somewhere around 2900.
I am telling you this from experience. If you eat to little to begin with, it gives you no wiggle room for dropping the calories as weight loss progresses. It may even cause your body to enter the dreaded famine mode where the metabolism slows because the "body" thinks its starving.
If you don't like the number I gave you, you should at least calculate your base BMR and go by that.
This website is great for that. http://www.bmi-calculator.net/bmr-calculator/
Glad you joined CC. You'll find lots of info, help, support here.
Please take your time and really read the info, do your profile and don't cut the calories too much.
Remember that you need to have a long term commitment and starving yourself will be counterproductive.
At 5'10" I've gone from 284 to 236 in 4 months without hunger pangs or cravings. And I'm 55 years old ...
I'll be glad to cheer you on. By end of summer you'll be feeling so much better. By end of year you won't recognize yourself!
This site is awesome, you'll love it. Make sure you visit everyday to stay inspired. I understand what your about to go through, I've lost 80 lbs. It's a long road but its soooo worth it in the end. Add me as a friend if you want some support, I would love to be there for you!! ![]()
Oh yay! A new commer. I just love it when new people join that have more than 100 pounds to lose. I lost over 170 pounds myself (was 295, dropped down to 120) almost 2 years ago. Took me 16 months to lose the weight, and i've been maintaining the rest of the time.
Okay okay I'll stop tooting my own horn. The point of this is that you CAN do this and become healthy. No pills, no surgery. I have no doubts in the success you can achieve. Just stick to your guns (don't let anyone try to persuade you otherwise), create a plan, make up your OWN rules, and watch the pounds come off.
And most of all, find alternatives to your favorites. A great site for that is www.hungry-girl.com. Sign up for the newsletter and you wont regret it. Kraft.com has some great low cal recipes.. and of course our recipe section is packed with FOOD. mmm food.
;) As I lay here stuffed after eating stir fry.
