Assuming you are healthy and just underweight, I would try and eat more calorie-dense foods such as peanut butter, dried fruit, nuts, trailmix etc.  If you don't already, you can try and add snacks between meals and dessert if you want. I know it might sound counter-intiutive, but it you normally snack on an apple, pick trail mix instead.

Another easy way to add more calories to your diet is to just increase you serving size slightly.  Add half a cup more pasta or half a cup more cereal.

I wouldn't recommend switching to high fat foods to gain weight. That might help you gain, but also increase your risk for heart disease.

I think aiming for slow weight gain is best, to gain 32# could take a year for you.  Plus, you may never reach your ideal weight.

I hope this helps.  I can only imagine how hard it would be to hear that you need to gain weight from those around you.  I worked with a girl who had a similar problem and she said when people told her to eat more it was like her telling an overweight person to eat less.  It isn't easy for either situation.

Good luck.

Oh my goodness, you are me (well, awfully close anyway!)...I am 38 with 3 kids (ages 6, 4, and 21 mos. - very hard to take care of myself when I'm going non stop with them) and weigh right around 100.  I am sick of always being told how tiny I am (with having a history of anorexia it is not something I want to hear).  Here's my recommendation...lots of nuts (and nut butters), olive oil, heartier breads, and condensing foods (for example, at breakfast sometimes I have oatmeal made with milk, with peanut butter stirred in and then a banana chopped into it).  Also, several smaller meals throughtout the day to make it more reasonable to eat the amounts you need to eat.  I am currently eating right around 2000 calories but I think I need to up it as I gained only 1-2 pounds over the past 2 months.  I'm not an expert but there are lots of good recommendations on here for types of foods (look at the stickie about high cal foods, they have some great ideas).  Personally I'm at a place where I also enjoy things like pizza, cookies, and ice cream which I'm sure has helped me not lose any weight at this point.  Best of luck!

thank you so much for your advice, i am taking in all suggestions and going to try them. i am just finding it so hard to eat i  have only eaten like 900 calories today and want to go fix some thing else to eat but i feel so full, wish i could get past that feeling, like i said ty very much and ur advice will b used.

over the long term, you're definitely going to have to increase the amount of food your stomach can hold.  you can do this by gradually increasing your portion sizes.

but over the short term, i think liquid calories would do you wonders.  you can drink fruit juices, soymilk or regular milk or chocolate milk, protein shakes, fruit+protein smoothies.  if you're not anti-sugar, then lemonade and gatorade or homemade root beer are nice in the summer.  try warming a mug of milk at night and steeping a bag of camomile tea in it:  very soothing.  good luck.

thank you, i am trying and will try your suggestions as well.. now when i think i cant eat i have been making a peanut butter sandwich, or gulping down a ensure plus, or protein bar.. thank u again.

I would suggest adding a weight gainer protein shake in for breakfast with milk and begin lifting weights. This will add the curves where you want them. And lifting weights will keep you from looking stick thin. I just had a baby and if I hear how transparent I look again I think I will hurt someone, and I am a size 4-6 at 120lbs!! I work my but off to look the way I do. I think no matter what people are always going to have something to say. But if you are going to gain weight do it right. High protein with the calorie intake to make your weight good weight gain, plus then you will gain more weight because muscle weighs more then fat.

Inquiry???

Why is it after you have a baby you get smaller then ever before?!? I don't think I have been this small since high school!
