I'm new with questions

Quote  |  Reply

Hello! I'm new here on CC and was wondering about a few things. I lead a fairly sedentary life...although trying to change that. I'm trying to figure this burn meter/ calorie deficit thing. I have it set on sedentary and am I supposed to add everything I do like sleeping, cleaning, cooking etc or just my exercise? I had my calorie intake set too high the first 2 weeks but I lost 4 pounds. These last 2 weeks after I lowered my calories I have stayed exactly the same. Now if I am reading things correctly in order to have a healthy weight loss I should aim for a 1000 calorie deficit right? I guess what I really need to know is if I am supposed to count every activity I do during the day.  Thanks!

Hi Putz...welcome!

First, if you've set your activity level at sedentary, I would recommend just logging exercise or any vigorous activity that's out of the ordinary (like if you spend Saturday mowing the lawn or cleaning the house from head to toe). Things lke cooking and sleeping aren't really worth logging, in my opinion.

Secondly, what are your starting stats? 1000 calories is a big deficit when you're starting out. I'd be worried that you'll end up hungry and dissatisfied because your body is used to so much more food. Try working with a 500-700 calorie deficit to start, and see if you lose with that.  My gut says you probably will!

Good luck!

Katie

I second what katy said.

I have a big appetite so I'm aiming for a 400 cal deficit. I ought to lose about 3 pounds a month that way. A 1000 cal deficit is big.
