I'm new and had a real eye opener this past weekend!

Hi everyone!  My name is Katie and I am 30 years old and a stay at home mom of a 2 year old son.  I never had to worry about watching what I ate growing up, but as we all know, things change.  I was the 97 lb cheerleader throughout high school and never went over 108 until in my early 20s.  I am only 5 ft and weight, any amount, shows quickly.  So now I am 143 and feel like a rollie pollie.  This past weekend, my husband and I went to visit some friends in south FL to attend their annual halloween party.  Needless to say I left very depressed.  I, stupidly, thought I looked good in my costume until I got to the party and realized I was the fat chick.  I am sitting at a size 12 and every single girl there was below a size 6.  I have another party to attend this weekend and don't even want to go.  If I do go, I will be forgoing my last costume and coming up with something quick and oversized.  I just can't say no to "bad" food.  I eat it and then feel so guilty.  I have a membership to a gym and a Wii at home and yet they never get used.  I think this past weekend was a real eye opener for me and hopefully I can start to do something about it.  So wish me luck!!

Hi Katyuwf -

Dont give up! And definitely go to the party. This is the time to make a life style change but dont give up on the parties and things because you are losing confidence. You CAN do this! and I know that if you start working out even a little bit and eating more healthy, you will begin to see changes and it will become addicting to be healthy. Even if you dont see drastic changes on your body for awhile, you will feel better on the inside and gain the confidence you need to continue.

Dont let peoples size 6's get you down. You are beautiful with a way cute son. Start with the Wii if the gym membership doesnt motivate you and spend some quality time with your son playing games and becoming active. Remember you are an example to him! :)

Good luck!!!

Welcome! Priceless7 is right -- go to the party because we are all more than our dress size!

Have you thought about a few introductory sessions with a trainer at the gym where you have a membership? Also, maybe a visit to your home by a nutritionist?

Sometimes, with a fabulous new kid in the mix, we can shift into a not super healthy mommy-mode that means we forget that we have to put ourselves somewhere in the equation otherwise we can't actually be there for our loved ones.

By being accountable to and supported by a trainer and a nutritionist (even if it's just at the beginning or a few check-ups every few months or so) can help. Having mean plans and time set aside for exercise can take so much of the stress away from "How do I get from here to there?"

Anyhow, don't know if that would work for you -- just an idea. Best of luck!
