Im going for the whole beachy-wavy slightly curly look, NOT NOT NOT the 80's frizz!
Um, could anyone tell me abit about their experiences with perms? I need a good one so im bringing my beautiful friend in with her natural hair and some pictures!!
xo
I went with a reverse perm... I had a fro and now have sleek straight hair :P
The one thing that sucks is you can't dye your hair at all... or at least not in my case, and it dries out your scalp for the first week.
Advice? Um, don't.
Have the stylist use the big rollers....and if your hair is long....do a spiral type. Also, there are perms that cause less damage....they are stinky though! (For about a week) Also, if it is too tight, wash it right away. I used to always get perms through out my life....but now I find with the right layers in my hair, I can use gel and scruch my hair while drying and get some waves....so maybe try that if you have any natural body.
I have only had 1 perm in my life and will never do it again. I have super fine and thin hair so I got it mostly to give it some body and to thicken it up. I went with a really loose perm(I just personally don't like the look of tight perms). It worked, but it was soooo high maintainance. If I didn't spend a lot of time on it each morning, it looked terrible.
The good thing about it was that with the perm, I was able to have it styled for my wedding and it actually held the curls all day. Before(and now after) the perm, my hair would never hold curls at all.
So, I guess if you are willing to spend a lot of time (and money on hair products) its a good idea. If you aren't willing to do that, you will end up with a frizzy mess most days.
My advice: Don't get a perm.
I have naturally curly hair, and I got a perm because I thought my curls would be more controlled and defined, but it just made it even worse. It was so frizzy. It was very hard to style and took a lot of work. I had to wash it every single day and put a bunch of gel in it. Some days it would be hard and crusty (not a good look), and other days it would be all frizz. Of course, when it got wet or if it was humid out, the style would come completely undone.
Really, if you want waves/curls just use a curling iron once in a while. Perms are just as much work as doing it with a curling iron.

Oh! You can put your damp hair in a braid, let it dry, and take it out for waves. It looks good if you can keep the braid loose.
