Weight Loss
Moderators: duke3522, devilish_patsy, topanga1485, nycgirl, spoiled_candy, cmillington, coach_k I'm pregnant!!!! :) Any suggestions?
I just found out that I am expecting our first child in July -- I'm due on my husband & my 5th wedding anniversary, which I think is pretty cool. It doesn't feel "real" yet, but we haven't told families (waiting until Thanksgiving when everyone is together) and I don't have my ultrasound for another 2 weeks, so maybe then it'll feel real. I'm 6 weeks right now, and not experiencing any morning sickness, or really any symptoms at all.
I was just wondering if anyone out there might have some words of wisdom for me as far as weight gain and pregnancy goes. I'm terrified that I'm going to balloon up.
I'm not doing so well so far (been at conferences traveling for work, and they feed you at those things. Very little menu flexibility!) but I fully intend to turn it around next week when I'm in town and I'll be prepared, grocery wise. But I'm already 7 lbs heavier than I'm totally comfortable with (a couple lbs. must be due to travel, and hopefully will drift away as I get back on schedule), so I'm sort of starting off on the wrong track. I've kept exercising, though, and plan to keep running as long as I can.
I'd love to hear some "I wish I would've..." or "I'm so glad I..." stories, and any words of comfort with the weight I will gain would be appreciated too!

Congratulations!
You will be fine as long as you eat healthy at your maintenance level. I actually ate healthier when i was pregnant because i wanted only the best for the baby and no junkfood...i only kept my usual little dark chocolate piece every night (there is actually a study that came out saying than mothers that ate chocolate while pregnant had babies that smiled more!), my little Tim sure is a happy one! I made sure i had more dairy than ususal ( i would ony eat cheese, so i added milk and yogurts) as well as proteins (i would normally eat less than 60g, and made sure to get 100g).
I kept running until the 8 months, i just made sure to check my heart rate to not go over 140 (as advised by my doc)....and of course the further you are the easier it is the reach that heart rate...my last run was so slow...i would have been faster walking;-)...anyway..i stoped running at 8 months.
I gained 28lbs, and i lost 16 immediatly after birth...the other 12 went off w/o any effort (and i lost another 6 extra..)...breasfeeding takes a lot of energy!..I started exercising again after 4 weeks..it felt so good to run again.
So i was glad i watched out my diet and did not stop exercising.
Unfortunately, when i stopped breastfeeding i was still eating like i was, and gained the 6 bonus lbs...
So i wish i had been careful at that time and ate a little less!
Well congrats! I am pregnant as well, Since I have become pregnant I have found that I am eating healthier. I was eating healthy before the pregnancy but I am now a health freak! Ha Ha I find that I am hungry alot, but I think that is out of boredom, make sure youare eating healthy like thudrine says ( previous post ) and you should be healthy, dont forget it all adds up, carefull with the jogging late in pregnancy as you can tear your placenta from your uterus by that bouncing! (I almost lost my son at 8 weeks) I am 7 months right now , and really have to controll my eating! I was about 10 pounds over weight when i got pregnant, so like you I am maintaining my excersise, but fear not! if you keep in good shape while pregnant your body will have muscle memory and bounce back with ease! I found recently though that decafe coffee or hot sweetend beverages ie hot chocolate mochas and other drinks of the sort, were making me puff up! so if you feel a little like you are retaining water, try to ease off sugar for a few days, ( except the natural ones! ) hope that helped! - winnie
So much fun to be pregnant! I had my baby in april....my pregnancy wasnt so healthy though...I ate and ate and ate...I gained 80 pounds! I was so fatigued which had to do alot with not eating right...and not working out....I do regret doing that to my body and not to mention my daughter....she came out healthy thank god but now that I look back....i shouldn't of used my pregnancy as an excuse to pig out.....a day before i gave birth i weighed in at 237.....2 weeks later i was 213 by may i was 207...which is when I began CC I am down to 172 but i wouldn't have had to bust so much but if i didnt gain all that weight in the first place.....so i guess my point is....enjoy your pregnancy but dont use it as an excuse to pack on the extra pounds...believe me you will regret it afterwards!
CONGRATS! and God bless your pregnancy!
CONGRATS! and God bless your pregnancy!
Congratulations to you and your husband! I just our second daughter about 6 weeks ago, 12.5 months after our first daughter was born. With my first pregnancy, I gave into every craving that I had. If I wanted a Qtr pounder with cheese, I would eat one. Even if it was every day. After nine months of that, I gained nearly 50 lbs and was miserable when 25 of it stayed on after I gave birth. Fortunately, with my second pregnancy I ate better and healthier, lots of salads, fruits, veggies, and lean meats. I gained less than 20 pounds and was thrilled when 25 came off after the baby was born. I wish that I never would have told myself, "I'll eat this now, give into this craving now, and go on a diet AFTER the baby is born". Bad idea. Just remember that everything you eat, your baby is eating. Good luck to you, pregnancy is a wonderful time in life. Enjoy every day and don't worry too much about your weight, it will come off!
Puddin!!! Oh my gosh...I just got on the computer to start the same topic!! I have lost 30 pounds since June eating 1200 calories a day. I hired a nutritionist because I wanted to lose weight properly. This week I just found out I was pregnant, also due in July. I'm about 6 weeks also!!!!!! Congrats to you. I saw my Nutrition Dr. yesterday and she said I should eat now to just maintain my weight for the first trimester. She figures for me at 5'4 and 155 pounds that I should now eat around 2000 calories a day to maintain my current weight. It seems like a lot more food than the 1200 calories I was eating before. She broke it up for me like this:
Breakfast= 400 calories
am snack= 200 calories
Lunch= 500 calories
afternoon snack= 200 calories
Dinner= 500 calories
pm snack= 200 calories
My Dr. told me that because I'm starting this pregnancy at 10 pounds over my desired weight, that I should only gain around 15-20 pounds for my pregnancy. She said that I shouldn't gain any weight in the first trimester, that you gain the weight in the 2 and 3rd trimester. I'm like you.......I DO NOT want to put on tons of weight. And she assured me that I would not if I exercised and ate healthy. this is also my first baby. She also encouraged me to continue exercising....even said I could do spinning classes for now. But she said not more than 7 hours of exercise a week. (No problem with that ;)
We are really excited to have a summer baby! My husband and my birthday are both in July and so is our anniversary. (July 10). ( 7 years )
At 6 weeks along, I'm definately feeling some fatigue and my breasts are kinds sore (hope thats not too much info . LOL)
Let me know how you are doing. Hope some of this info helps.

puddin= just clicked on your page and saw your pug! I have a pug also....Chester. He is our spoiled baby right now. My husband and I joke that his little life is gonna change sooooo much in 8 months! We take him to the park and beach and buy him clothes and treats. It's all about him and he knows it. HaHa!
Congrats to the pregnant ladies. Well when I had my first child (now 5) I wasn't into watching what I ate. I craved cheese burgers, muncho chips and ice cream. I worked at a place where I did a lot of walking so I didn't do to bad. I gained like 25-30 lbs, but it all came off quickly and I was back to pre baby weight in a month or two. My second baby ( now 2 yrs 10 mos) I still wasn't watching what I ate, but I craved salads or sandwiches, I was no longer working, so didn't get as much exercise. I also gained 25-30 lbs with her and that also came of very quickly. remember you don't just gain how much your baby weighs, but also, blood, placenta, milk, amniotic fluid. So as you get bigger it's not because of food neccesarily(sp?). If you guys do just what your doing you're way ahead of the game and don't worry about it enjoy all of it, the good and the bad. What's a few lbs when your getting a beautiful baby.
Well, I had my baby over 2 years ago, and found myself still very much overweight right now. When I got pregnant, I was at a pretty healthy weight, about 10 lbs over what I had to be. So, I ended up eating whatever I wanted. A friend of mine was pregnant at the same time I was, and she would always say "Ah, the baby wants it", and she'd eat whatever she wanted. She was alot smaller than me to begin with, but we would eat together and....I ended up gaining 60 lbs with the mindset "Ah, the baby wants it". Just a word of warning: DO NOT EAT WHATEVER YOU WANT. If I ever have any more children, that is one thing I would definatly NOT do. I also tried doing water-areobics, and that was wonderful. It was great to relieve the pain of my "prankles" and I felt as light as a feather in the water! Good luck with your pregnancy. It's a beautiful thing! :0)
Hey Puddin, congratulations! Just wanted to say hello! I looked at your profile, I also have a cute little pug - her name is Mia :) She going to be 4 in January.
Words of wisdom, as far as weight gain goes... eat healthy now to minimize weight gain... it's rough getting it off!

I just wanted to thank everyone! That's just what I needed to hear, and I think I'll print these posts just to remind myself next time I decide I "NEED" those Peanut M&Ms at work, or I "MUST" bake brownies (that was a recap of my last 2 days, by the way, but also something I struggled with pre-pregnancy!) I'm going to the grocery tomorrow for the first time in 3 weeks, so I'll be prepared after I buy plenty of healthy things to snack on. It's detrimental to not have any food in the house (except for the brownie mix, that is...)
Beverages sure suck! I just switched to diet, but now that I can't have it, I'm visiting my old friend Cherry Coke. Ugh. I'd prefer diet, really. I'll be keeping that to a minimum, but it really sucks. There is NOTHING we can drink! I'm going to get lemonade, but it's just all chock full of sugar. I love water, but sometimes you can't just drink water, that's life!
I was also glad to hear from all the pug people! Corral42 & dietmtdew I was glad you saw my puggie! We're major pug people. Just like yours dietmtdew, Daisy is in for a rude awakening when the baby comes! She'll do great, but she's going to have to lay off the barking, that's for sure!
I was also glad to hear from all the other expecting mothers...we can be a great support system for each other! So let's keep in touch on CC and we can help each other out!

Corral42 -- I was looking at your pictures, and I saw your puggie! Also, you've got a Vette...I'm a vette kid! My parents were founders of a local corvette club and I grew up around vettes and other vette kids and I LOVE them! I don't have one, technically, but my dad passed away in February (he was the biggest corvette enthusiast I've ever known!) and my Mom and I share his old vette.
re. beverages, one suggestion: herbal teas are great, i especially enjoyed all the ones flavored with berries (it taste like it is sweet!)
Just wanted to say I know what you are saying about drinking water! I right now, dont drink coffee anymore( found it effected my heart rate while excersising,)even decaf! so I drink this other stuff that tastes like coffee but it is made with chickory and barley grain roasted, man is it ever good and had like NO calories! also, since I became pregnant I have noticed my tastebuds are like woa- and i can dilute juice really down so I dont feel guilty having 2 glasses of oj during the day instead of one really sweet one! plus for sugar cravings i have found out about dried papaya! sounds yuckie, but it is so good and sweet and if you actually search dried papaya it helps with like everything, really healthy tonnes of vitamins and minerals, and antioxidants, and helps with infirmaties( if you deal with that right now! lol) I am happy to see other pregnant women out there I thought I was the only self contious one! - winnie and Ezekiel ( sons name) i am 7 months now! 11 weeks to go! yay!
well i don't have any suggestions (i'm 28 & not married yet, no kids!) but i just wanted to say CONGRATULATIONS & i'm sure you will do GREAT! Let us know how it went telling the fam at Thanksgiving! i'm sure they'll be excited! i looked at your profile & i LOVE your doggie! I have a shih tzu. My sister & her hubby have a pug! :)
GOOD LUCK & CONGRATS!

GOOD LUCK & CONGRATS!

puddin-don't listen to tobeth. they are a troll who shows up every now and then. they are the one who's a pathetic idiot.
Wow that was a really bad comment, considering that I am 7 months pregnant as well, don't take it too personally although it is hard, I did. winnie ( also a pregnant woman who by her/his/it's terms doesnt deserve to be a mother.)Makes me feel bad this is the first sad person I have encountered!
Don't let this piece of nothing bring you down.
He's only saying it to upset you, so not worth your time, he's wrong.
Please don't listen to him.

so puddin1447, how goes the thoughts today?- found myself in good eating order! nice! hope your early pregnancy is delightful! joy!
thudrine= Is it OK to drink herbal teas when pregnant? I love green tea but haven't had since I found out I'm preg. I'll have to find out.
Puddin= I am also not telling my family until Thanksgiving. I can hardly stand it though because my Mom has been begging for grandkids for the last few years and I really want to tell her !! We' re supposed to bring desserts on Thanksgiving Day. So I am going to bring a pumpkin and pecan pie. But I'm also going to bring some cookies that I'm going to have made at my supermarket bakery. I'm going to see if they can decorate a couple dozen cookies pink and blue or something like that. I'm going to put them in a really pretty tin and then pass them to my Mom first and let her open them. I can't wait!!!!!!
I know what you mean about we can't drink anything!!! I used to have a Diet Mountain Dew everyday and also a Diet Coke. But now I'm down to 1 soda a day. (I guess we are allowed 2 a day) . I don't drink coffee. Puddin= why can't you have diet soda? I thought that was OK? Boy I hope it is!

I have had 3 pregancies (4 children, one was twins) and I have always
been overweight going in. I never gained too much though, around
30 lbs, 42 with the twins. I think that the most important thing
is to focus on what you are going to eat, not what you shouldn't eat.
You can google the Brewer Diet, it focuses on lots of protein
and high quality fruits and veggies. If you eat all that's on
there, there won't be much room left for junk. And if you don't
do Brewer, just do the food pyramid, you still won't leave much room
for junk.
