Quote  |  Reply
I have been counting calories for..... idk more than half a year. Everyday for half a year carrying around a calculator and i'm soo sick of it! I just stopped the other day and its the best to just eat normally again not having to measure and worry! Is anyone else trying to stop? Or going to stop?

I'm trying..but then I have been for months =\

How did you just...stop? Wasn't it hard??
I'll probably stop once I reach my goal... but if I start to gain, I'll come back to counting again.
I want to stop too. I'm going to try soon! As soon as I can force myself to quit. Maybe I'll break my computer so I can't log on here!
note that if you have been counting for a year, you should have a pretty decent idea of portion and calories; at least in general. it's should be easy, by now, to read packaging and to make good xhoixes.

so, you don't necessarily need to log every calorie at this point if you are either losing or maintaining. if your body starts to change unplesantly, go back to logging
I've been since age 13 (Im 17 now).  I think it's just part of my little childhood.  Nostalgic.
ive been counting calories since i was around 12 or so im now 19 and you just kinda memorize portions and calorie amounts over time i only log things iam unsure of or look ahead of time =]
deflepfan16: yep i just stopped! I was soooo sick and tired of it. Everytime i reached for the calculator i just made my self stop by saying to myself "i don't need it!!" I mean so many kids go without doing it and they're fine and plus we're KIDS why are we worrying about it. I just have strong will power but thats sorta how i got in this predicament to begin with.

Dosen't counting calories drive you all nuts though? I know it drove me mad!!!
Well since I logged stuff on this site I didn't need a calculator. I also remember what I ate earlier in the day, and its calorie content (for most things), so again no need for a calculator. For the last month or so I've been barely logging anything, only when I'm unsure of the calorie content of something, and have to check my tags or the food database...or I want to know the analysis of what I ate.

yeah im the same as vicereine...i counted calories for about 4 months and now i keep a food journal of everything i eat and (since i already know the average caloric content of most of what i eat), i just estimate.

besides, calorie counting got a little too stressful once i started university and eating cafeteria. it was impossible to know the number of cals in the food there so i'd always be worried that it was too low or too high...what im doing now works better for me

I've never really logged cals much on this site (it gets a little frustrating and too time consuming) but I used to write it all down.  Now I round off and add it up in my head, but it drives me insane because I find myself adding it over and over again to make sure I did it right.  I'd love to just stop counting and be confident that I'm not eating to much, but still eating enough.

It scares the heck out of me though =\

I just started this month and I say...

KUDOS TO YOU! I HATE counting, and I'm still not sure how much I'm supposed to eat. Bleh.

 Keep quitting!

This is my dancing day.  I've lost 20 pounds.  I am about half way to a healthier body.  No, I am not quitting.  My screamy bones are already thanking me for taking care and counting all the good healthy nutrients going in.  Good luck in whatever any of you do.  Believe me, health is a fantastic way to live.

i only count every few days to keep myself reminded of general calories invovled. Everyday would be maddening. use it as a tool to keep iin check, not to be obsessed ove..but DO do it when you try new foods to get an idea.

I only counted for the first month... after that I pretty much had it down what I could and could not eat.  I've done really good on my diet too, lost 30lbs in 3mo.  Maybe just quit counting the calories and keep eating healthy stuff.

i cant count.. i always loose track. i prefer to just eat healthy and not have junk/sweets (gives me headaches anyways).. and eat what i want that is good for me!
im afraid that if i counted too closley or went on a diet my metabolism would slow down.
