This may sound a little weird, especially coming from somebody you don't know, but when was the last time you went number two? Odds are, you just need to go, because unless you binged your weight in food, you did NOT gain three pounds overnight.

That is more than likely water weight... chill out, you are still 3lbs down from where you were.  Sodium does cause you to retain water, obviously, so try and add to the amount of water you normally drink a day and that will help your body flush some of these excess fluids.  Make sure you exercise and eat a big breakfast, too- it helps :)

I agree, I have gained anywhere from 2 to 5 pounds overnight from water retention.  This is why they tell you not to weigh daily because of the fluctuations.  You are more likely to see a loss if you weigh once a week because of the average.  Weigh each week the same day, time, etc.  Just a suggestion to keep you from freaking out over water fluctuation.
Hell, I gain 10 pounds over the course of a day usually.
It's not actual weight that you gained. it's water/food/etc. Trust me, not a big deal.
If you can't handle the OMG 3 LBS!!!!!111 stress of weighing yourself daily, then DON'T WEIGH YOURSELF DAILY. Your weight will and does fluctuate throughout the week. Weigh yourself once a week, so you don't freak out like this, causing yourself stress, which will only make you gain weight in the end.

More than likely it's water retention, and the need for a good #2. Calm down :P

It's water weight, or natural weight fluctuation. It's always going to happen, so you're going to have to learn how to be okay with it, or to only weigh yourself once a week so that the number continues to go down.

Calm down.  The CC+ Library, Q&A section explains

How did I gain 4 pounds in one day?

Temporary weight gain is most likely a result of water retention, which can be caused by eating too much sodium. Water is heavy: a gallon weighs 8.34 pounds. In the body, sodium is found in the tissues outside of the blood vessels. If sodium becomes too concentrated, water rushes in to lower the concentration. The result is puffiness, often seen in the fingers and ankles as gravity pushes water to the ground. To eliminate excess sodium and water, reduce dietary salt intake and drink plain water to flush out the system. In women, the hormones of the menstrual cycle can also cause sodium retention. Certain medications can cause water retention as well.

is it ur time of the month?

I always gain 3-5 pounds before periods and then during them also.

They dissapear after that but its still quite depressing seeing all that water weight

you should try not to weigh yourself everyday! Also you might add a few pounds depending on the time of the month. I weigh myself once a week so I don't get pissed off when the scales jump up or down a little.

I weigh myself every day, but I am very aware of the fluctuations from day to day from food, sodium, water, menstrual cycle, whatever.  On Tuesday, I was 183.9.  Yesterday, I was 186.9.  Today, I am 184.

It can be frustrating, but try not to focus on the number on the scale, but the healthy changes you are making...or don't weigh yourself for awhile.

If you step on and off a digital scale 3 or 4 times you may see that your weight changes by as much as 2 pounds.  I always take the lowest number - it sounds like cheating, but I've always taken the lowest number from day one, so I think it all averages out.  If the batteries are getting low in the scales, the fluctuation may be greater.

If you're really obsessive about weighing yourself every day (like I still am) then get on and off the scale a few times and see if the number changes.  I've found that moving the scale to a different position on the floor can make the reading change.  The botom line here is that day to day changes in weight are not something to panic over.  Look at the long term changes.  Your weight loss graph has that green Trend Line on it which averages out the minor changes.

Exactly. I kick my scale under the bed and only drag it out once a week or so. It's a hard habit to break if you're addicted to the scale but it can be done
