Im going to run the Disney princess half marathon in March!!
This will be my first marathon, well half marathon. I'm so excited!! Any tips would be greatly appreciated. Wish me luck!
Disney Land or Disney World? I want to do the 1/2 in Jan. at Disney World if I can finally get something done about my stupid neck. How long have you been running? What training program are you following?
Good luck to you!! And with any luck, I'll be there running with you. I'm trying to get up the courage to sign up within the next week or so. It's just a little intimidating!!
ptcmama, it's at Disney World.
I might just join y'all! That so happens to be my birthday weekend.
Maybe we should have a CC support group for the people running in the princess half-marathon. Then, it might be less intimidating and we could encourage each other to keep training.
ptcmama, if you run on your birthday weekend, that has to be good luck or good karma or something!
Very. Important. Question.
Does "disney princess half marathon" imply that you are supposed to run in a disney princess dress?
Because if the answer is "yes," I might have to check flight prices for March.
To my knowledge, you are welcome to dress as a Disney princess. I thought about doing it, but since it's my first half, I'm not sure how it will affect my ability to run.
The is the first Disney princess half-marathon, so I can't say what has happened in the past but I know that for the regular Disney marathon, quite a few people dress up as various characters.
You should also know that the medal for this princess half is a tiara medal. (Which I think is awesome!)
I know that attire is important
, but you should consider a local USA Fit group. I am training for my first marathon in Feb, and I have found them to be awesome! We run together as a group every Saturday, then there are opportunities to train during the week as well. They cover important things like pace, hill prep, drills...etc. They help you to build up your endurance "the right way". I have talked to people that have done it on their own and they all suggest working with a running group. You learn a lot about yourself...your boundaries, how to take care of yourself...and how to push yourself.
Have a great time!
OMG!!! I'm running too!!! And starting to get really, really anxious. This will be my first marathon experience also! IMO, there is no better reason to run then for a PRINCESS TIARA MEDAL!!!
So I called my hubby all excited about this race. I mean, how perfect because we were thinking about going to Disney for my birthday anyway. I basically use my kids as an excuse to be a kid :) Well, he gently reminded me that I have 2 herniated cervical discs and that I can't even do a 5k without wanting to chew my own arm off from the pain. But hopefully i will still be there cheering you guys on! The kids fun run is on the 7th which is my birthday and my 6 year old son wants to run it. My 4 year old daughter just wants the tiara! And I totally think you should wear a princess costume. Or at least a princess shirt!
I'm definitely planning on wearing something special. I'm thinking about running in a running skirt and then wearing some kind of princess t-shirt. That way I could practice in the entire outfit at least once without really freaking people out in my neighborhood.
p.s. I'm still open to a support/encouragement group for the people running in this princess half. Let me know if you're interested!!
Just wanted to let everyone know I started a group for the half marathon. To help keep us on track, share tips, etc. I cant wait to go!!!
I just signed up for the Princess Half Marathon... never done one before, but I am looking forward to it!
So, because I had never run more then 5.5 consecutive miles, and have this Princess half looming ahead, I decided to try a 15k this past weekend. My plan was to go EASY, SLOWLY and just run it.....like my husband said "Don't RACE it, just RUN it!". I nailed it......Ran 9.3 miles in 1:38 minutes and felt freaking fabulous!!!! Granted, most people run a half in that time but I'm just looking to finish it....not win it. We all get the medal regardless of where we come it. And, my new mantra is, "Dead last finish is greater than Did Not Finish which greatly triumps Did Not Start."
I now have the confidence and knowledge that I CAN DO THIS!!!! So instead of being anxious and nervous for March 8th, I'm super excited and counting down the hours!!!
Just going to continue to work at my distance and increase my speed...See you all there!!!!
Im running it as well. I ran the Disney Expedition Everest Challenge in August and it was so much fun. Disney goes above and beyond with their races and the amount of people that are there give you a huge ego boost and you feel great about being part of it. There were 3000 people at the Expedition Everest Challenge but i think there might be like 8000 or 9000 at the Princess Half Marathon. I just started running in June and some things that I have learned since then when it comes to races is; 1.) stop for 30 seconds at every water station to catch your breath, 2.) do not wear brand new socks or shoes, and 3.) since it is a half marathon and you will be running for hours, be prepared to want to give up. I just read a story about a woman who was running a marthon and at mile 19 she didnt think she could go on anymore so she dedicated each of the remaining 7 miles to 7 people that are important to her and she felt that she had to finish running each mile or she would let someone down. Anyways, hope to see you there!
Yay for you!!! I am running it too! My family lives in Orlando. My little sister is running with me too... very very exciting!
We are planning on dressing up as princesses... I'm thinking more obscure princesses not just the same four they always have (aurora, belle, cinderella, ariel) even though belle is my favorite...
