I just started my diet a few weeks ago, and I'm starting to get physically sick now.

I eat my 1400 calorie allowance a day, I drink a ton of water a day, I take multi-vitamins, and I eat healthy as well. However, I was not sick until the day after I started the diet and it has been going on since.

When I say sick, I mean nauseous and bad migraines. It's worse than any cold that I have ever had. It's almost like a terrible flu, minus the chills.

Could I be missing something in my diet? Could it not have anything to do with my diet? Help!!

Might wanna see a doc, could be a conincidence since it started the day after, i dont think missing a few vitamins or minerals in 1 day is gonna cause it.. I would suggest seeing a doc.
I'd never call myself an expert, but my wife's headaches tend to be related to when she doesn't have enough iron in her system.  I'd keep the water up and try to see if increased iron helps you out.

One thing I do know is that women need more iron than men do due to obvious, natural reasons.  As an old phys ed professor of mine said: "So, all you need to do is sautee some liver in some molasses and you'll be all set!"

Did you used to drink alot of caffeine products?  You could be having caffeine withdrawals which make you very sick.
I actually never drank water before. I only drank soda and coffee, and I ate out at fast food restaurants every single day! I was thinking that it might be withdrawls, but how long do they last??
I had terrible withdrawals from caffeine and sugar, awful headaches and feeling sick, but they only lasted a few days. I'd see a doctor. :(
heheheh - that's why I let myself have ONE cup of coffee in the morning every day. :)  Gotta jump start on some caffeine in the am. :):)
I have to ask...what kind of multivitamin are you taking? And were you taking it before you started the diet?

I was taking a multivitamin and had to stop because it made me feel SO SICK...I stopped taking it and immediately the feeling went away.

Now I take Flinstones children vitamins (the baby ones...one in the morning one at night) because I remember when I was preggers the multivitamin contributed/caused the morning sickness and the doctor reccommended this instead.

BTW, I was taking the One a day weight smart ones. YUCK.

I used to take multivitamins when I was younger...noticed they would make me feel sick for about an hour after I took them...but these made me feel sick ALL DAY.
That's actually the one I'm taking. I'm taking a type of One a Day, but I'm not sure exactly which one I'm taking. It's a red pill though.
I was also going to ask about the multivitamin, I also can't take them without getting headaches and feeling bad, It is actually ncie to see that I'm not the only one in this position.
I've actually heard that OAD are the worst for causing nausea.

I actually thought I was getting sick a few times...then I noticed on days that I left out the vitamin I felt better. The last time I took one I felt bad enough that I almost wanted to run to the bathroom and get rid of it. I said that's enough!

Try eliminating them for a few days and see if it helps.
Oh, and the Flinstones ones are so Yummy...so I have no trouble remembering to take them...lol.
Oh my gosh, those One a Day weight smart vitamins made me sick too!  So so so sick...I had to pull over when I was driving to work one morning because I really thought I was going to die.  I stopped taking them and switched to a different multivitamin, and I feel fine.  Whatever vitamin you take, you shouldn't take it on an empty stomach.  I think that was part of my problem.  Hope you start feeling better soon!
^TRUE...never on an empty stomach. I always made sure to eat with mine...still made me sick.

I have heard from people who continue to take OAD that taking them IN THE MIDDLE of a meal instead of before or after helps. Me...I'd rather waste the bottle than take my chances trying to find out if they are right. lol

Try Vitamin World's Mega-Multi Vitamin w/Iron for Women. I feel crummy when I DON'T take it. It's got absolutely everything in it...it alleviates many of my PMS symptoms. I swear by these things...much better than drugstore/OAD type brands.
Sounds like it's either caffein withdrawl or the OAD - go have a diet coke and see if you feel better!
This crazy for me to read that taking a multivitamin and make you feel sick because I had never takev vitamins before and my boyfriend urged me to so I started and then I got sick so I stopped taking them and I was fine. He told me it was all in my head but I feel better after reading this. Thanks!
actually taking vitamins is not proven to be good for you at all. To quote a senior scientist in the Department of Human Nutritution at the Australian CSIRO when discussing the benefits of omega 3 fatty acid suplements or vitamins

"And of course half the population take vitamin and mineral supplements and there's zero benefit of doing that so if they had a choice they'd be better off taking fish oil compared to vitamin and mineral supplements. There's at least some evidence that fish oil supplements might do some good whereas the standard vitamin cocktail there is zero evidence that they do good and especially vitamin E and beta-carotene there's evidence that they do harm."

for further reading regarding the damage done by vitamin E, A, and beta carotene see http://www.abc.net.au/rn/healthreport/stories /2007/1861068.htm

so those of you who don't like taking them probably don't need to feel bad about not taking them anymore. While if you think you are derriving a benefit, by all means continuing taking them if you want to.
Oh good it wasn't only me!! I took the OAD Weight Smart for the first time and by noon I was so sick I had to leave work.  Spent the whole rest of the day running to the bathroom - threw the bottle out the next morning.
If you're cutting back on caffeine, it's better to do it slowly. Otherwise you get smacked with bad withdrawal headaches and other symptoms. I'm down to 250mg/day from 400mg and feel awful... at zero, I'd be non-functional.

About the vitamins - what about taking children's multivitamins instead of adult ones? It's the same stuff, just less of it, so there shouldn't be too much. Is that safer?
