I've been carrying around a 28oz bottle of water for months and refill it once a day and drink more water with dinner.

Lately, I can hardly drink it unless I'm eating.  Anyone else hit a "water plateu"? Should I just force it down? LOL. I know, silly question, but I was just wondering.

I've never had a problem drinking water.  In fact, I can tell if I haven't had enough because my feet swell Tongue out.  Since all foods contain water, why not try eating some foods with a higher water content?  Melons, oranges, cucumbers.........?

You don't have to drink lots and lots of water.  If you prefer tea, fruit teas, sugar-free squash... they're fine too.  It's important to keep well-hydrated so that your digestion is working well and you're not retaining too much fluid.  But if it isn't water you want, there are other things you can drink.

I don't drink as much water as i should. So i know where your coming from. First it's bland, second... if i drink too much i feel sick, and third... if i even drink a 16.9 oz bottle i'll go to the bathroom at least 15 times a day (small bladder!)

Try drinking the first 28 oz plain or with lemon and the second bottle with a crystal light :)

I guess I don't know if I drink enough water or not. What I DO know is that I wake up in the middle of the night, EVERY night ,to visit my bathroom. And during the day, it's almost every hour I go to the bathroom.

I was drinking a lot just fine the first 2-3 months, but this month it's different. Maybe the fact that I'm on my period has changed things...

I'll keep chugging unless I hear otherwise since I really dislike teas and flavored water, but I WILL try eating more melons or fruits with high water content. Thanks everyone.

I was having problems with only drinking water and then not drinking enough at all, but teas are a good thing to try. I'm not sure about how they are for you, but my dad makes huge pots of tea and mixes it with ice cubes, sweetener, and no-calorie lemonade. I really like it.

I can relate totally!!! I have the same issues with water.... i finally found a solution. I swear try it and you will be presently surprised. Fill your water bottle 1/4 of the way with seltzer or flavored water (I like the walmart flavored waters, black cherry) add 2 sliced strawberries to that and fill the remainder with regular water.... Its so good and at the end theirs a special treat at the end of your water journey ... delicious strawberry slices... You'll love it trust me

i like to drink fizzy water with a squeeze of lemon and a sprinkling of stevia in for something different.

That actually sounds quite brilliant!  I bought some seltzer and still have trouble choking down my daily water.  I have tons of frozen blueberries just sitting around.  I think I'll try your suggestion.  Thanks! ^^

I like adding any kind of citrus zest to my water.  Also, I have a small herb garden and a few mint leaves makes my water go down quite easily.

I was staying at a hotel this past winter, and they had water in the lobby with lemon slices, lime slices, and mint leaves in the water.  It was awesome!  I've been able to get my hubby to drink more water, (instead of Mountain Dew!), by doctoring his water this way!

most people get all the water they need from the food they eat.  this is especially true for those that eat healthy.  chances are you could stop drinking water all day long and be completely hydrated.  it all amounts to the color of your pee...  here is a useful chart:

I drink when I am thirsty... my pee is almost always light colored...

You should try sassy water from the flat belly diet. It's flavored with cucumber, mint and ginger. I haven't tried it but many swear by it and it's supposed to relieve bloating. Just search "sassy water" at CC recipes.

As for the comment above that you don't need water as long as you eat healthy. It seems to work for him but I know it wouldn't work for me as I always end up eating some 3000 mg salt a day from diverse food sources. I guess most people with regular eating habits would be dehydrated without water. And I drink a lot to avoid water retention. It's recommended 64oz a day.

As for peeing that often, either you're drinking more than you think you do or you might have  some other issue. I'm assuming your not taking diuretics. Caffeine and beer are natural diuretics and bladder irritants for example. Urinary infection and pregnancy (probably not since it's ttom for you) may cause that too. I'm not saying you have any of those issues, I'm just throwing some extra info in case it might help. Good luck.

I find the propel fitness water packets helpful.  I think they're only 10 calories per packet.  I normally add half a packet to my 20 oz. container of water... but if you like it sweeter, you can add the whole packet.  There are all kinds of different flavors, which keeps the water interesting.

I try to drink the majority of the water I drink plain, but sometimes its just too boring/bland.  So, to mix it up, here are some other things I drink:

  • propel
  • crystal light (i like pink lemonade flavor)
  • coffee (warning:  don't drink too much.  it's a diuretic)
  • tea (i like vanilla chai tea, or green tea)
  • diet soda (don't drink too much though)
  • water with lemon juice (hot or cold)
  • diluted juice (1/2 water 1/2 juice)
  • fuze slenderize
  • starbucks americano (hot espresso with hot water)
Another thing to get more fluids in is to eat foods with high water percentage.  These foods tend to be lower calorie as well (watermelon, other juicy fruits, tomatoes, etc) Remember, everyone needs different amounts of water to stay hydrated.  I end up in the hospital with dehydration if I don't get at least 80 oz of fluid.  Some need less, some need more.  I think the recommended amount is 64 oz though.

yes we need water..but to me I only drink when I want to..I will sip it all day but will have decaf coffee, milk, tomato and veggie juices, actually make a vegetable soup and drink it in a cup..I also use honey, lemon to taste, or put in some herbal teas of all kind,s especially peppermint.

They say 8 glasses a day...but to me some days I do it other days I don't.  I never carry a bottle of water with me...unless I am physically exerting myself...sweating!

My weight program is working and I will reach my 167lbs goal by May 31st..I started at 202lbs in January 2009.

Most folks get more than enough water... and don't take into account all the other fluids they drink because of misconceptions, like "coffee doesn't count as water" or the like.

so that you don't have to take me at my word, as I would never expect anyone to... here are some good reading about the subject.  You may be putting yourself through something that is not necessary...

Good luck on your journey!

What do you folks now about "SMART BALANCE Cranberry/Rasberry" juice?  It only has 35 cals per serving and tastes really good.  I don't think a glass a day on occassion would hurt, right? I mean, it's not incredibly processed or anything, is it?

I too doctor my water. I use the Arizona Green Tea with Pomegranate and Acai Berry tea bags. I drop a tea bag in the bottom of my eco-friendly bottle, add cold water from the water cooler and just let it sit in there. I get a sweet (but not 'sweetened') taste from it and I just refill the bottle as I go. No work and when there isn't any flavor left from the tea bag in the bottom, I know I have had plenty to drink. I clean the bottle out at the end of the day and start with a new tea bag the next morning. Also, don't forget to count the liquids that you take in from other sources.

I make a water based smoothy every morning with chocolate flavored whey protein and frozen strawberries, or vanilla whey protein and 2.5 tsp of Tang (mmm... tastes just like a creamsicle). Another good one is the vanilla whey powder with frozen blackberries (this tastes like Lucky Charms cereal.) I also have the not so rare, but often unrecognized, negative reaction to artificial sweeteners; instant migraine from all of them, even Stevia and Splenda. So I have to choose protein powders that do not contain artificial sweeteners (VERY hard to find btw.)

Don't think that water is the only thing you can have with your water, by all means spice it up a bit and see what comes of it!

And more importantly, if your aren't thirsty, you aren't thirsty ... what good is force-feeding yourself water? Listen to what your body is telling you and maybe cut back a little bit ... it sounds like you are trying to give yourself 48 ounces of water on top of everything else you are eating and drinking and you may just plain old not need that much. Unless your are working out to extremes and losing massive amounts of fluids, you probably aren't needing that much.

I say have appropriate fluids (low or no calorie) available at all times should you need it, but don't beat yourself up over whether or not you got it all in that day. There is no set rule that will work for every person except to listen to your body, trust your intentions and have intentions you can trust, and everything in moderation.

I can't deal with having to go to the bathroom literally every 15 minutes if I drink even a couple glasses of water.  I feel like everyone at work is watching me and wondering what is wrong with me that I keep going to the bathroom.  But if I don't it's very painful.  But have you tried the mint waters?  They're delicious

I know it can be hard, I love water and I still have trouble drinking it sometimes, it just gets boring. To change things up I sometimes use Crystal Light, they have alot of good flavors and in the summer I will freeze it into ice pops, a yummy fat free/sugar free snack. I have also used Koolaid in a pinch, I just mix it with Splenda instead of sugar, tastes pretty good but I found you don't need as much sweetener as you do sugar.

I did the 4 day quick start at the beginning of the flat belly diet right before I found this website.  You're supposed to drink a pitcher of sassy water every day.  I made it the first day, and I have to say, it is the most vile stuff I ever had to drink.  I think the mint, ginger and lemon are fine, but while cucumber water may sound like a good idea, it's really not.  I like cucumbers.  I like water.  But cucumber flavored water is just gross.  Although obviously that's just my opinion.

I don't think you should force down a lot of water, but drink when you're thirsty or hungry because sometimes we interpret thirst as hunger.  Oh, and I definitely find that  I have to go to the bathroom more frequently when I have my period.  It probably has something to do with the increased prostaglandins.  They make muscles contract (that's what causes cramps), and there are muscles around your bladder.  Annoying, but that's life as a female.

If you're bored of water and want flavor that doesn't cost calories, I find fruity herbal iced teas to be a great alternative.  The berry flavors are usually really good.  I'm a big fan of wild berry zinger.  Just steep 4 or 5 tea bags in 1-2 cups of hot water, dilute it with cold water and refrigerate.
