I wish I could offer you some advice as to how to get rid of it, but I've got nothing.

I am SO HAPPY you posted this and the pics though! I've been dealing with this for ages, and I finally have confirmation that someone else is experiencing it! Isn't it terrible!?! It makes me so uncomfortable, I mean in literally hurts. It also keeps me from doing much of anything after I eat, mainly because I'm so bloated I don't want to move, let alone see people!

I really appreciate you posting this. Now let's hope there's some feedback!

i don't exactly know what your intentions were for posting this; you are either just fishing for compliments, or hoping that you do make other people 'just jealous', or you have self esteem issues.

whatever the reason, as long as you are eating enough and not suffering from an eating disorder i dont think you have anything to worry about.

your stomach bloats after eating too much, or drinking too much, or eating certain types of food.. simple as that. if it goes back down to its original size a while later then yes its just bloating.

but from you pictures your limbs look very thin, and your collarbones stick out quite a bit... speaking from someone who has had an ED, I can usually tell the difference between healthy thin and starving for attention thin (ie too boney), like i said i dont know what you are trying to do by posting this, but those starving kids in africa have puffy bloated stomachs due to malnutrition...

Im not one to judge, But really Im honest and you are really thin even with the bloated stomache.  I used to have stomache pains and a little bloating but wow never ever ever this much, Despite this you look really skinny.

You could try probiotics, reglin, etc. Talk to your doctor. Also, if you dieted to get to your low weight, please try to gain it back. If you are naturally thin, thn yo should be fine.

girl the same thing happens to me, and people still tell me i'm too thin. it pisses me off becuase i look pregnant-not thin! It's like there's no solution.

Tell me if you find an answer, becuase i've been looking for a really really long time!

I feel your pain! Unfortunately I don't know any solution because it happens to me every time I eat too and it makes me really self concious about going out or being around people because I look like an alien and my clothes get really tight.

This happened to me a lot when I was undereating...and when I first increased my cals.  It still happens on occasion but not near as much as it used to.

Those little shirts that hug you up top but flare at the bottom work well for hiding that...that's pretty much all I wear now (just in case =P)

I don't think most people are as small sized as you actually, but if you (and your entire family) are naturally thin, then weight loss/gain shouldn't be an issue. (:

the bloating looks serious though. Could it be due to intolerance to something in your diet? you might want to check that out with a doctor....

I don't know how old you are because your profile is blank, but by looking at your pictures, it seems that you are pretty underweight.  Like someone else said, your legs and arms are very skinny, and your body just looks like you have an ED.  That is just my honest personal opinion.  Your body looks like that of a 12 year old, so if you are having issues with body image, I suggest you seek some professional help as no one on this site will be able to do anything but give you their personal opinions.

doedoebird has a good point. You might be lactose intolerant or have another food intolerance that causes you to develop excess gas or bloating after meals. Check with your doctor. You are very thin (indeed, possibly too thin) and your belly is NOT swollen because of fat, that much I can promise you.

Huckaberry, that was SO not helpful, btw.
Please refer to the underlined bold portion of the article below.  Those of you that are 'so excited' someone posted about this, please get help.

Physical Symptoms of Anorexia Nervosa

The most visible symptom of anorexia nervosa is a sometimes dramatic loss of body weight that is clear to the casual observer. But the symptoms range far beyond appearance. A person's body changes in many ways--some subtle, some not (University of Maryland, 2006):

  • Weight loss (which can be achieved via restricting food or purging it)
  • Menstrual problems (amenorrhea)
  • Bone loss (osteoporosis or osteopenia)
  • Extra sensitivity to cold
  • Bloated stomach after eating (when the stomach has lost its ability to deal with a normal quantity of food at one sitting)
  • Lanugo--a fine hair that grows on the skin in response to the body's need for warmth
  • Yellowed skin (often from getting too much vitamin A as a result of eating only certain foods, like carrots)
  • Thinning hair
  • Confused thinking (since the brain needs fuel to function properly)
healthybmi, thanks for that info. Good to know.

Girls, read it!
Have you ever seen the starving children in Ethiopia???  Skinny bodies and a big old belly---eat something and and stop fishing for compliments!

Agrees COMPLETELY with lyssalou76.

1) You are too thin. It is not health.

2) Your stomach is BLOATED because you are malnourished, and your stomach muscles are probably not used to food and not performing peristalses as they should be. Check yourself into an e/d facility and they'll give you something for that.

Keep losing weight if you want to end up with severe physiological issues. Despite what you may think, being able to "feel" your intestines bloated with poo, is not much fun.

TMI? ;)

I would think if anyone were commenting on your being too thin ..it would not be because of jealousy it would be of more concern. Please Please go see a doctor. That is the best way to handle your situation. Best of luck to you.

i just thought I should add that all the judgements about her being anorexic are really not helpful and are out of place. YES, jamie, you are very thin, but it does not neccesarily look unhealthy thin. For those of us that do have trouble with eating disorders, it is noticeable to us when someone is unhealthy. That being said, only you know if you are healthy or not, if you do think you have a problem then please seek help, and there are many of us here on cc who offer tremendous support.

If the bloating started more recently or is painful/ very uncomfortable and interferes with normal activity, then you should consult a doctor. Especially if you've noticed it's worse after certain foods. Otherwise, I know that people who are naturally very skinny can see the fluctuations in stomach size a lot more easily than others because there isn't much space between that and the outside and at least relative to our body sizes, the size changes of our stomach are much more pronounced. This would happen to me even before I lost a lot of weight from the ED because I was always naturally thin too. I can even see it if I have to pee really badly! lol

...sorry, tmi!

gibbit, the pictures the OP posted are very disturbing and not natural for someone who is 'just skinny'.

The majority of people on CC are here to learn/share healthy habits and are genuinely concerned for their fellow members who might be travelling down the wrong path.  A lot of the members have personal experience in these areas or are currently trying to overcome these issues.

Again, this extent of bloating does not happen to a naturally thin person unless there is a significant medical issue, ruling out pregnancy.

jealousy? perhaps for some... triggering? very much so for those with EDs

I agree, only YOU know if you are healthy or not.. are you eating enough? do you work out regularly, NOT excessively? do you have body image issues? have the thought of an ED ever crossed your mind?

yes, those who have experienced the symptoms of anorexia nervosa (like many on this site) can easily tell the difference between naturally thin and unnaturally thin... you look too boney to be natural, but i could be wrong. if it is in fact all genetics then fine, only you know if you are truly healthy or not... but posting such pictures just screams "i want attention"...

i know a few thin girls who are healthy, yes they are thin, they eat a lot, BUT they are not boney, they have a small bone structure so the result is a person who is skinny but not emaciated, their bodies were meant to look like this.. your's however looks very boney, your arms are concave, your collar bones stick out and your knees are knobby... i'm not trying to be rude, but you asked and this is what i see.

if this issue of bloating does in fact bother you so much, then go to a doctor! he'd probably tell you a) you are underweight and malnourished or b) you have some type of irritablity to sorts of food.... asking random internet users on a DIET HEALTH AND SUPPORT FORUM website is ridiculus.. what do you want to hear?

seriously this post just sounds like a complete joke or an ignorant pre-teen's poor attempt to get a little attention... but if you are concerned for you health you would ask a doctor, otherwise you are fishing for compliments

honestly i dont even know why i am wasting my time responding to this AGAIN... go see a doctor!

what a triggering post

OK, regardless of being too skinny or not, the big belly thing can happen to anyone-it may just stick out on you more.  It happens to me and I'm pretty average-and it's real embarrassing, I agree.  Here's the stuff I learned works:

1. You're probably eating too much sugary food (even if you don't eat that much in total).  It's called a yeast infection (not unlike the girly kind) that lives in your intestines, causing you to bloat when it's fed a lot of sugar.  This goes for simple carbs too.  Most people have a yeast infection in their gut-not all are as bad as yours and mine.

2. Once you cut out the sugar (and I do mean CUT OUT), add some probiotics (good bacteria).  I've been taking Acidophilus for three weeks and feel GREAT.  It's tasteless and gentle on your stomach.  You can find this stuff at a health-food store in the fridge section next to soy milk drinks.  Or, just ask the guy at the vitamin counter.  I swear to God, my stomach has not been this flat since I was on a three-day juice fast.

Probiotics are also available in that Activa yogurt stuff (although I'm raw vegan, so I haven't tried it myself) and also kefir, tempeh and raw sourkrought.

3.  Some light exercise will also help keep your stomach moving.

hope this helps.
