So I'm skinny fat now? Great. How do I fix it??

Quote  |  Reply

Hello :)

I used to be underweight and decided to pack on the pounds, but I lead a pretty sedentary lifestyle right no and am subject to frequent binge episodes of around 4000 calories comprised mainly of unhealthy nutrient-deficiet foods. This is not how I wanted to gain weight. But there you go.

Thing is, the scale still says I am underweigt because the number is low, but due to the fact that everything I have gained is fat and absolutely no muscle (due to the bingeing my diet has very little protein, also I don't exercise at all).

Wht do you guys recommend I do now to tone up and actually have a nice body? Because Ok, dressed I look fine. But naked... not nice.

Please take into account that I cannot work out as I am going to be very busy for the next 2 months. If anyone recommends sit ups or something like that, please give me a routine/plan to follow. I ave tried to do so (before when I was actually fit and did sport I could do 250 sit ups at a time), but now due to the bloated stomach from the overindulging I find myself uncapable of doing so.

Have I completely screwed up my body? Is there any way at all to fix this? I just want to be healthy. That's all. Thank you.

You could try something like yoga to tone up, there are alot of yoga DVD's out there for begginers.

Weight training is good too, i bought some from amazon that came with instructions telling you what motions tone which muscles. If you keep them nearby you can use them whenever you have a free 5mins,like waiting for the kettle to boil, waiting for food to cook, watching tv.

There is also a '10 minuit' range of DVD'a that have 10min comact workouts, its not so hard to wake up 10mins early to d a quick workout.

Thanks a million for your reply :)

I will try perhaps some sit ups before breakfast and look around for one of those DVDs!

I think you should try and get some help for the binging as this is blatently unhealthy for your body even if you are underweight.  What is your diet like atm if you don't mind me asking.  Try eating more throughout the day.  If you usually eat mainly carbs, this will lead to a carby binge so aim for protein as your main source for lunch and dinner.

Also make sure you're drinking plenty of water to flush out any toxins and stuff which is hanging around in your belly.

I also reccommend trying to do a small workout when you wake up...or if you really are reeeally busy, set your alarm clock a bit earlier so you have time to do this.  Sounds like a pain in the butt but 15 mins of exercise will give you a HEALTHY appetite and hopefully you will feel refreshed and in a good mindset for the day.  hope this helped a little bit!!

If you're going to do yoga, I'd suggest this site. http://www.yogatoday.com/ It's completely free, gives you a new yoga routine to do every day, gives modified poses for beginners and just has a single ad in the beginning of the episode.

Lift weights. Skinny fat is still a high body-fat percentage and leaves you open to all of the same risks obese people have.

Go to stronglifts.com, and follow the 5X5 beginner plan. Don't get tricked into getting "toned" or any other buzzwords, but simply build muscle. If you are a girl, you will still look like a girl due to the muscle structure you have, not due to the lack of muscles.

More muscles mean a high metabolism, better health, more strength, more safety and a sexier body. I suggest that you seriously look into it.

Here comes my crabby rant: You fix it with exercise. And if you "don't have time" now, it's likely you will make the same excuse for as long as it is convenient for you. No one really has time to exercise - we make time.  You have to prioritize your life towards health, it doesn't just happen. You can wake up earlier and go for a walk or a run for 15-20 minutes. Or work out on your lunch break from work. There are also roughly ten million work out videos on YouTube that claim to health you up in less then 10 minutes, and PBS has workouts on during the day.

*steps off soapbox and will be nice now*

You can do this, babe! Please tell us a little about your day so we can understand the kind of constraints you're working against - what time do you get up? Go to bed? Do you have work? School? Kids? All of the above?
