Weight: the amount that a thing weighs

Weighed: to measure or apportion (a definite quantity) on or as if on a scales

Used in a sentence incorrectly: I weighted myself this morning.

Used in a sentence correctly: I weighed myself this morning. My weight is 150.

===========================================

Lose: to free oneself from: get rid of lose weight>

Loose: not rigidly fastened or securely attached

Used in a sentence incorrectly: I have already loosed 5 pounds and I I want to loose another 10 pounds.

Used in a sentence correctly: I have already lost 5 pounds and I want to lose another 10 pounds.

I am not judging anyone. I am just posting this for everyone's knowledge because I can't read another post where these words are used incorrectly, lol.

Cheers

thank you! I was thinking the same thing
Well bob that's obviously true and that is why peaches posted this.
there's plenty more that could be added to that list, such as TWO, TO, and TOO.  let's not forget YOUR and YOU'RE.  to throw in my personal favorite THEIR, THERE, and THEY'RE.

I have to say this, we're not here on this site because of our spelling.  So what if not everyone can spell correctly and some are just down to typing errors.

I don't want to judge anybody but, considering that the majority of c-c members are native English speakers, the grammar does at times indeed seem rather poor.
Hey I dont know why everyone is getting mad ;) It was just a post talking about a VERY COMMON usage issue. We all make mistakes even grammarians, english professors and even EDITORS so don't feel bad ;)
guys this is a subject that has been argued time and time again on this site and has actually caused BIG Time arguments!

There are things not worth arguing about.  We are all here to have a healthier life....

I suggest

if you are upset and/or disagree with this post,  Ignore it.

if you agree with this post and are upset by other peoples grammar, try to ignore the misspelled words, noone is perfect.  Everyone is from different walks of life, different education backgrounds, and different countries here...but we are all here for the same reason (amazing, huh?)

if someone misspells a word, dont correct them, just when you reply back to it, spell yours correctly.

hope  noone is offended, I have just seen so many of these threads go bad.
i donnt get wat the problum iz.

=d
LOL
lol! :)
I'm not British, but don't they actually use "loose" as the same as "lose"?

I've seen it used by a lot of non-American English speakers...so I don't think its wrong. Like the difference between "colour" and "color..." I think they are still more right than us anyways since they did found the language :)

I am Canadian and you are correct when it comes to color and colour and many other words, but lose is not one of them :)

ps - Like I said I am not here to judge and I don't/didn't want to start an arguement, but I needed to write it. Like everyone, I make mistakes but I think it's better to learn and correct it than to continue saying or spelling something incorrectly. But by all means, ignore this if you want, I am not the forum police, lol.
I dont undirstend y u r righting dis... evryon hear nows howe to spel and youse gramer...
Just a friendly reminder that everyone is welcome to post and that different people have different styles and spelling.  Netspeak and typo's spoken fluently here :)  cheers, united (volunteer moderator)

No. Their pronunciation is different but the spelling is the same.

Personally, I don't think that word usage is up for debate. I'm OK and you're OK and let's all sing "Kumbaya", but "loose" just plain does not mean "lose", any more than "car" means "cabbage", no matter what people's opinions and feelings are about the subject. Many things are subjective; this is not. Sorry.

What is subjective is this issue's importance in the grand scheme of things, but -- more opinion coming up -- I happen to think that misusing common vocabulary makes people seem ignorant. If you do not give a poop whether I, squalorholla, words on a screen, think you seem ignorant, keep on typing "I need to loose five pounds". But that word? It does not mean what you think it means.
