I'm being stalked. Help?
Okay, a pregnant cat is stalking me -- what should I do?
Sometimes, I hear it scratching at the door or meowing late at night. When I open the door in the morning, it's right there, just staring at me. Sometimes, when I go out at night, I see its glowing eyes fervently staring at me.
I have no idea what it wants. I don't know what to do.
I only know that I can't take care of it...
Any ideas?
Maybe call animal control?
Awww, this broke my heart!
Is there anyone you know that could/would be willing to take care of it?
I guess you could take her to an animal shelter. I've heard that some spay pregnant cats, or put them to sleep. That's why I was wondering if you knew anyone that could care for it.
Poor kitty.
If there's a Humane Society or other no-kill animal shelter near you, I'd recommend taking her to them. If not, see if you can find anyone to take care of her. Breaks my heart to think about a mom-to-be (even if it's a cat) with no one to take care of her :(
Throw your shoe at it.
I've been stalked like this, too. It wants to give birth in your home, or nearby, close to you. You are the chosen one!
My neighbor's cat ran into a hamper and had her kittens, after several days of trying to keep it out of my house. A stray had 2 litters in my basement. I don't know why pregnant cats love me but it's kinda spooky.
Call the Humane Society or...let it in to have its kittens. :)
If you don't want it hanging around then call an animal shelter, but be aware that many shelters are over flowing with cats and chances are they will put them down.
Cats don't just pick anyone you should be flattered.
Probably not stalking you. Probably a stray that needs food and a home.
Stupid people get animals and don't get them spayed and neutered. One thing that really makes me MAD!!
There are other options then the humane society. In our area we have JazzPurr. They are a foster care system for cats.
Good luck.
Just imagine all the fun you can have with baby kitties!!!
The cat needs help and is looking to you to provide it. If you are unable to do that, then start calling animal shelters until you find a no kill. It won't be easy, but it's cruel to see an animal in need and do nothing.
If you do nothing, the kittens will be born outdoors and will be prey for other animals. The mother cat will have to hunt to try to feed them and if she dies trying the kittens will die too. If they survive, there will be more un-neutered cats wandering your neighborhood, ready to reproduce in a few months. If all their offspring survive, there will be hundreds of cats, all ready to reproduce. Why not do something to stop it now?
I agree with the above.. Try to find a no kill shelter, (we have more than one here) if you can't take care of it. I understand that you can't. You may be allergic, or have a dog that is not kitty friendly, whatever the reason you have, you are entitled to it. Better for you to find a place for kitty to go to be safe and after she has the babies, she can get spayed so it doesn't happen again. Hopefully she and all her babies will be adopted! That would be the win win!
Thanks for all the suggestions. :)
I took your advice and started calling animal shelters to see if they would take her in. Unfortunately, the ones I called said they would have to put her down...
I'm still making calls and hoping to find a shelter that'll let her have her kittens & take care of the new family.
If I can't find one, I'll definitely call some friends/family members to see if they can help. =)
Thanks again!

=O
If you can't find a shelter, call some veterinarians and ask if they have anybody that will foster a cat about to give birth. You might find someone who will give her a home.
Please don't give up!
We had several litters of kittens from our cat, and if she's quite visibly pregnant she's probably looking for a safe warm place to stash her kittens when the time comes. Hence the reason she won't leave you alone. Especially if you have ever stopped to pet her or taken pity and given her a snack.
A suggestion: While you are looking for a safe home for her, I would recommend finding medium sized cardboard box (something that would fit mama and a few babies without too much extra space), close the top off and cut a pregnant mama cat sized hole in the middle of one side (make sure the hole is high enough so the little kitties won't wander off should she give birth before you can find her help), to make a kitty cave for her. (You can throw in an old towel or newspaper to help keep some of the ground chill off). Then put the box somewhere where safe for her where it won't get wet or be too exposed.
Hopefully she'll take to it and make a little home there. In my experience, mama cats like this because they only have one angle to defend from, it keeps the babies coralled and safe, and helps keep the litter warm.
Good luck finding a home for her! I can't believe shelters would kill a pregnant cat, that's so horrible! We got our new kitty from our Humane Society and it was refreshing to see how well cared for their cats were (older cats included) and what lengths they go to to make sure all of those cats find a loving home!
Hopefully you've had luck in finding someone to help you out. If you are still looking for a solution, check to see if you have any animal rescue organizations within driving difference, Rescues are different than shelters (although I concur with the no-kill shelter sentiment, but they are difficult to find). Rescues usually often have their own network of people who volunteer their time to trap strays, foster qne locate homes for them. If you aren't finding listings for any local rescues, like Clairelaine suggested, definately check with your local vets. They know who the local animal "rescue" folks are and most would probably be willing to post a notice on their bulletin board and possibly even make a couple of calls for you. They will also drive a fair distance to rescue an animal, so don't count them out if they don't live in your city.
I have a several other suggestions, but if your issue is resolved (since I'm really late in the game responding!) I won't waste your time.
Please, don't get discouraged if you are hearing a lot of "no" and "we're full" responses. Please post again, I think from the above response you can tell a lot of people would have additional suggestions for youl. I have been fortunate to operate rescue and a TNR program for stray/feral cats very successfully and have found people will step up and help out when you least expect it. Good luck!
If you live near any farms, try to give her to one. I have had good luck giving pregnant cats to farmers, because they like them around barns to keep the mice out of the animal feed.
Female cats do not fare well in shelters. No one wants them--especially if they have a litter of kittens. (Unlless it is a no-kill shelter, but I would imagine most are pretty full of cats this time of year.)
Thanks for all the suggestions!
Unfortunately, I have yet to find a shelter that will take her in...
Tomorrow, I'm going to start calling vet clinics and family members/friends.
If I absolutely must, I'll drive out to farm to see if they'll help her out. Unfortunately, I live nowhere near a farm...
I'm also going to make a little cardboard home for the cat (as piratekitty suggested), just in case.
I'll keep you all posted!
