I'm going to steakhouse for dinner- help!

Quote  |  Reply
My family is taking me out to a steakhouse for dinner. I seldom eat roasted beef, and I'm not sure about what to order there. I would like to try some roasted beef- yet I'm unsure about which type/cut I should order. I know the smallest portion they offer is 6oz, and I think I'm going for that. I did some search here and I foundd there are just too many cuts of beef ( tenderloin, sirloin, porterhouse steak...trimmed To 1/4" Fat,, Trimmed To 1/2" Fat, select, prime...I have totally no idea what these are!), I'm not even sure which cut I'm taking. I'd like to play safe and make some healthy, low cal choices- any advice on what to order?

personally I would order a 6oz. filet with a salad and rice....or same cut of beef with steamed veggies.

Remember just because it comes with the meal, it doesnt mean you have to have it.

if you rather have a double order of veggies instead veggies and rice- order double veggies.

if you dont want baked potato then dont get it....get something else.

I am for beef personally, good protein! and its good!  Eat slow and it will fill you up.
I think the beef is served together with the gravy- Last time I saw the roasted beef my mother ordered was smothered in gravy. I'm worried about the gravy- is it calorie laden? What kind of gravy should I choose?
tell them no gravy.

its a weird but you eat what you want to eat.  I am allergic to wheat and gluten so no gravy for me.  I have to ask for alot of things to be taken off my plate.

Remember you are the customer and you are always right :)

gravy is the worst thing for you...nothing but fat
Order gravy and all other sauces and dressings on the side.

A fillet would have less fat to trim off but it's not as flavorful as sirloin or rib eye.

I usually order a sirloin strip steak and cut it in half to control the portion. I trim off every speck of visible fat. I like half a baked potato with a little sour cream & chives (on the side of course) and the largest salad I can get with diet dressing on the side, no croutons, or bacon, or cheese.  I have been known to order two house salads, one before and one during the meal.  I either share a dessert or take half of it home.

Avoid anything fried and don't eat the bread.  Don't be afraid to ask for what you want.
I would find out if they had a nice grilled piece of chicken and steamed or roated veggies, rememebr to drink 1 glass of ice cold water first befor digging into the food and eat slowly...Take care.
