Blasphemy!

At least get the Cliffsnotes.

It's everything I can do not to murder myself reading the Sparknotes. Even that is taking me hours. (Considering I'm facebooking/CCing at equal intervals with reading I supposed that's reasonable.)Foot in mouth

Candide rocks. Don't blame your procrastination problems on voltaire : )

I'll blame Voltaire for the war in Iraq be-otch! =)

I remember trying to read Voltaire. I can't remember which book or books, but I remember it being boring and difficult.

The book I hated the most and never made it through was Wuthering Heights. I found it awful. It was so slow and bloated. I never finished it.

I would bet money that Wuthering Heights has something to do with Homelessness.

(facepalm)  Candide?  Blech?

*does not compute*

Hey, at least you're not reading Hemmingway.

English lit has made me hate Hemmingway with the firey passion of 1000 suns.  God I hate reading his stuff.

Candide on the other hand is awesome. :D  My dad read it to me when I was a kid and I loved it.

Wuthering heights is possibly my favourite novel ever. Possibly. It's not about homelessness, why on earth did you think that? Although I'll give you that the character of Heathcliff had no REAL home. It's a love story. The first four chapters are hard. Once you get to switch to Nelly Dean teling the story it gets much more interesting. My friend can't understand why I love it so much, I guess when I first read it at 15 I indentified with the completely unlovable leads having a love story. Cathy and Heathcliff are just completely terrible examples of human beings. Cathy is manipulative, dramatic, childish and petty. And Heathcliff is just psychopathic. He strangles a puppy for christs sake. He digs up her bones to embrace them after she dies. He manipulates her daughter into marrying his son. Yet I love them, their love and passion is intense. Some of the best romantic sentiments I  have ever read come from Cathy as a teenager when she's dithering between Heathcliff and Linton. Sorry Sales Pitch over, just wanted to reach out to anyone who hasn't read it and let them know it aint half bad ;)

You know schnooder posted about books the other day too, maybe we should start a C-C bookclub :P

I was being sarcastic... blaming books for social problems...

*sigh* then you do sarcasm

it's hard to read intonation over the internet.

I never read Wuthering Heights, though it's been recommended to me - I do actually enjoy reading. I was just trying to keep it going since I blamed Candide for the war in Iraq =) What other authors do you like?

Loved Candide. I found it rather funny and entertaining. :)

At least its not the Scarlett Letter. Hawthorne is way to verbose for my liking. It takes 200 pages for Dimmsdale to do what Hester does on the second page! Ugh. So annoying.

I stand by my assertion that Wuthering Heights was the most horrible book I ever tried to read. I hated all the characters. The plot was beyond depressing. It was slow and tedious and I hated it.

haha believe me mooni you are not alone, I think it's probably one of those love it or hate it books. Like pride and predjuduce *HAAATE* with all the passion of an English teenager.

sadinplaid my favourite author is Terry Pratchett. I have to say I don't read the classics that much, and I am doubly ashamed to say that when I'm bored my fall back books are the twilight novels. They're like trashy TV in book form.

I can't remember reading Candide. Maybe I'll give it a try sometime. I like a lot of different books and I enjoyed some classics. Others I thought were horrible.

Agh! Terry Pratchett is so funny! I have the book he wrote with Neil Gaiman and Small Gods. I want to read more of his. Have you ever read any Christopher Moore? He's an easy read but he's effin' hilarious! I'm not big on the classics anymore either. I generally enjoy required reading for lit classes, always have, but this is my last class of my undergrad, and I just want to be done =)
