I'm not sure how much I should be eating.
Hey all. First of all I should say that I'm still trying to lose weight (or fat) while doing this regimen, and my stats are 5'5", 150lbs, 24 years old.
What I wanted to ask is... Is it a good idea to be trying to lose weight while incorporating these lifting workouts? I must admit I have not been this sore from anything else I've done in a while, and that's probably a good sign. I'm still doing cardio workouts on my "off" days, sometimes spinning and sometimes HIIT. I try to limit myself to 1500 calories a day and am trying to get a higher ratio of those to be protein. Does that sound like it's going to accomplish what I'm looking for (fitting into smaller jeans)? Sorry if this is a stupid question.
Lots of people on this program have been able to lose weight. Losing the weight is more about your calories in/out than what kind of exercise you are doing.
Make sure that you are getting enough caloires to support your activity level. 1500 sounds good, but you might want to give yourself an occassional maintenance day.
Also, if you are new to lifting there is often an initial gain of a few pounds -- water weight/glycogen that your body is holding on to to repair those muscles.
Give it a few weeks before you panic. If you eating is right, you will start losing again.
There is a handy dandy calculator included in one of the NROLFW logs that is based on the book calcs, but I can't find the link for the life of me. I plugged in your stats to the one saved on my computer, and for "active workout" you would need 2,312 for maintenance. To lose a pound a week, you would eat about 1800 per day. (Note:"no workout" maintenance says 1550) So, 1500 might be a little low. Otherwise, I don't see a problem. I've (mostly) eaten at a deficit and have lost a few pounds while doing a program. I'm eating better again and expect the loss to pick back up once I recover from the darn cold I have right now!
