Im thinking of drinking Gatorade

Quote  |  Reply

I weight about 265 and I used to do 10 minutes 5/week cardio interval aerobics but now I’m doing 20 minutes and well I get so tired and right after I finish the workout I get weak, so I was thinking of drinking gatorade, I usually eat an orange every morning at 8 am so I was thinking in changing that for 8 oz of gatorade which has very similar cals.

I think your better off with the orange, personally.  Sports drinks are really only good for VERY active people.  They were made for sports teams that needed hydration, but also needed to replace the electorlites (sp?) like sodium they lost while sweating.  In order to rehydrate, those people have to drink a lot of water and it screws up the balance between electrolites and water (too much water, no enough electrolites).  I doubt that your problem is this balance.  I'd check with your doctor to see what's going on.  Maybe blood sugar?  Maybe low blood oxygen lvls?  Maybe anemia?  Maybe you are just pushing yourself too much?  Lots of things can cause what you are feeling, but I don't think the sports drink will help.  The orange has so many good things in it that everyone needs!  Don't give that up!

You do not need gatorade, and I seriously doubt it will solve your problem anyway. Unless some kind of placebo effect takes place. What is the rest of your diet looks like?

So an orange is the ONLY thing you are eating before working out?  If so you need to eat a little more.  The sugar in the orange is probably spiking your blood sugar, and then it drops leaving you feeling that way.  Add a little protein and carbs.  Maybe add one egg white and a slice of toast or a little oatmeal or a little cereal.  Eating about 1/2 an hour before working out is what works best for me.  It lets the food start to hit my system, but at the same time it settles by then so I don't feel naseous exercising on a full stomach.

That was another idea, exercising at 1030 am after breakfast, its just too much exercise on an empty stomach.

hmmm eating pre-AM workouts...depends on the person. I personally dont eat before a run if its in teh early AM> just test different foods and amounts to see what gives you enough energy. But dont overindulge- just think energy. Stay away from bars, sports drinks, and energy replacements- the rule of thumb is that you only need to replenish your glycogen if you workout over an 1, or 1.5 some even say.

I've really never understood why people think Gatorade is good for you.  It's sugar-products, food colouring, preservatives, salt, and water.  The only difference between it and soda is the bubbles.  Undecided  Maybe I'm wrong, but I can't see of any reason to drink Gatorade "for your health".

If you're not going to exercise until 10.30 am you REALLY need to eat breakfast first. You had dinner well over 12 hours ago so your body is running on empty, and of course you're going to get weak and sick when you ask it to burn fuel that just isn't there. Gatorade isn't going to help - you need to stabilise your bloodsugar, not spike it.
