One should decide these things when they are sober. ![]()
Tattoos should be personal. You yourself should determine where it goes on your body, not some random person on the internet. All I can do is offer experience, such as the pain increases closer to the bone, and on a looser muscle like the calf the needle is more jiggly and requires more effort to hold still, if you want to take any of that info into account.
All this good advise aside, get the whole Jack Daniels label emblazoned on your left butt cheek.

I have a re-occurring nightmare of the memory of the day I drove my Mother out of town so that she could have the Bacardi Bat Device tattooed on her ass(right cheek) (her 50th B-day) and I regularly pray that she doesn't decide she needs the companion piece (coke bottle, left cheek) for her 60th.

I'd go immediately to the left of your navel. It'd be a body shot! :D

I think that's wise. Also, the ass hurts like a sonuvabitch.
What about the left side-hip? Below the ileac-crest and above(ish)/near the hip socket.

Sorry. You said until you sober up, reccomendations would be dandy. I just reccomended that you didn't actually get a tattoo YET. Who knows, when you sobered up, maybe a shot glass might not seem so artistic. I dunno. What ever you decide, I am sure it will be great.
i pity the fools who listen to a drunken CD. i've decided on the upper left side, around my rib cage. i tend to stand with my arms crossed so whenever i do that now, i'll be holdin g my shot glass.
I would be covered in so many cool tattoos if I was able to decide on them while drunk.
What I do is tell the artist what a want days in advance, get drunk, then go over, that way he knows I actually want it.

A reputable tattoo artist won't even work on a person who's drunk. Something about the alcohol thinning the blood and making clotting harder.
Bologna. It's because they don't want to get sued when the person sobers up and realizes they just got some dumb tattoo.

My friend who owns a tattoo parlor explained the risks to me once when I asked why he turned away people who came in from the bar next door. Since I wasn't a customer he was afraid of offending, if he was concerned about a lawsuit he would have just said so.
I didn't remember all his specific reasons, but a little googling on "tattoos, alcohol" revealed several pages stating the same thing - the blood thins and doesn't clot correctly, which can make the ink wash out or not take as well, and the drunk person may not hold as still as the artist needs them to.
Blood thinning also can occur from taking asprin.
Right, I've read that too. Four tattooist told me the main (real) reason is because of potential law suits.
I've seen very drunk people get a tattoo. They didn't bleed any more than anyone else has. Their tattoos are just as vibrant as anyone else's. They did not stay still though, so that point has a lot of bearing.
Maybe it depends on the type of artist you're working with. My guys are old school biker tattooists. For example, when they are doing shading (grey from black ink) they do not "water down" the ink. They use your blood to water down the ink which from what I've seen isn't very common but it does give fantastic results. Perhaps the old school guys know how to deal with the problems from drinking. Or maybe it has to do with the type of ink or carrier substance that makes the ink not take well in drunks like the plastics or the million other things that are in some inks.
In any event, we've been told two seperate things from professionals. We're probably both right to an extent.
