Im trying to change my eating habits...

Quote  |  Reply

My mom has a friend who is thin because all she eats is vegetables, fruits, nuts, and only drinks water. She doesn't even exercise... Me and my mom are going to start this way of eating but we are still eating meat, but only fish, turkey, and chicken. Since I am normal weight and it wont be too easy to lose weight, how much weight can I lose from ONLY vegetables, fruits, almonds(or any unsalted or roasted nuts), turkey, chicken, salmon, and whole wheat? I want to lose weight naturally because I used to eat all junk foods, and today I just ate chips and choclate chip cookies... I am also going to include water in my diet. Is it okay to over eat on vegetables and fruits when im hungry? I get hungry all the time which isn't helping the fact that I am trying to lose 20 pounds to get to a 20% bmi(now 22%).  I would also like to know how much weight I can lose a year, or even if I will.

You need to rethink that 'diet' a little because it's rather imbalanced.   Your mother's friend, for all you know, could be desperately unhealthy..... 'thin' isn't necessarily a good thing.   I know people that smoke 50 cigarettes a day who are incredibly thin.... not planning to copy them any time soon.  Smile

The part that's missing from the diet plan are the complex carbohydrates... eg.. wholegrain foods, starchy vegetables, pulses (legumes), oatmeal, grains.  These foods provide a lot of the energy in a normal, healthy diet and they also provide a lot of important nutrition and fibre.  Without them you could start to experience digestion problems, fatigue, hunger-pangs... .

Someone who is young and not overweight can slim down much more safely and effectively by increasing the amount of exercise they do and swapping the unhealthier foods in their diet (chocolate chip cookies etc.) for healthier options (fruit, wholemeal bread, fish).  They may not lose any weight on the scales but a toned body will look leaner than one subjected to an imbalanced diet and no exercise.

Good luck.

She included whole grains in her diet, however. Unless that was an edit after GI Jane's post. Other than that, her diet sounds perfect and totally balanced. Yes, I'd suggest some exercise, but you seem to know about that already. I'd say something like almonds or a meat of some kind for a snack, since fruit tends to make me hungry a short while later. I'm sensitive to sugar, though, so take that with a grain of salt. I have no idea how much you're going to lose--it all really comes down to how much you eat of it all. Since you're nowhere near overweight, still young, and always hungry, chances are you're just growing. I wouldn't advise dropping calories too much. Like Jane said, just swapping out for healthy foods should be enough to give you the body you want, have you feel totally healthy and make you a lovely, sparkly young lady.

I envy SO FREAKING MUCH how easy this sounds like it's going to be for you DX

Without question, you will GAIN weight from this "diet". You will not be able to give up all other foods forever, and when you do cheat, you will spike your insulin levels, go into starvation mode, and your body will start STORING FAT. So everything you eat on your "cheat" will just be absorbed and saved. If you do not eat your recommended caloric intake daily, you will start retaining water, you will start gaining weight.

Also, you said that you are "normal weight" so why are you trying to lose? If your BMI is high, EXERCISE.

Hope this helps, this plan will only hurt.

no you cannot eat as many fruits and veggies as you'd like and not gain weight. there are a few exceptions but just a few(like celery etc, you can find a list online). fruits esp have sugar in them, you can indeed gain weight off of too much fruit.
