I'm a wimp
I've been exercising a lot lately (around an hour a day over the last couple of weeks), so I decided to try out the treadmill for the first time in about a month and a half. The last time I used it, I was able to do a mile in 12 minutes and 38 seconds (woo hoo! my record!). This time, I wimped out after 13 minutes and I don't think I even did a mile, though I didn't really check. 13 minutes and I'm drenched in sweat. I'm such a whimp.
I tend to wuss out really easily on cardio when I'm first starting out an exercise programme and am out of shape. When I'm in shape and running regularly I can go for 45 mins or more, but when I'm out of shape (like now), I'll jog for 10 minutes and then I just "have" to stop. Curiously though, I can run for at least 30 mins at a hard pace if I go with my roommate (who's in better shape than me) - so I know it's all in my head! Grr.
If I'm by myself and just can't make myself keep running, I do a powerwalk for a few minutes to recover and then try to start again. If you are at all able to do running/walking outside, I'd definitely recommend it vs. the treadmill. If you chicken out after 13 minutes on the treadmill, it's much easier to just walk away. If you chicken out after 13 minutes of running/walking outside, then you MUST do at least that same distance back in order to get home :)
Some people just don't have much stamina. Even when I played soccer six days a week, I could barely run a mile without huffing and puffing.
I live in the pacific northwest, sarahelaine, so it's pretty much raining all the time :P I don't know about you, but I HATE going out in the rain, even if I've got a poncho on. Not to mention that I actually chicken out a lot sooner when I'm outside. It's odd. Another reason that I stay inside is that I've got vertigo, so sometimes I just HAVE to stop. Not something to do with willpower, unfortunately :( But I'm gonna work up to running more, 'cause I love it!
